Effects of a Strength and Creative Dance Intervention on Brain Electrical Activity, Heart Rate Variability, and Dual-Task Performance in Women with Fibromyalgia: A Randomized Controlled Trial Protocol.

Fibromyalgia is a complex chronic disorder involving persistent widespread pain accompanied by functional limitations, cognitive impairments, and alterations in neural processing. Previous research indicates that exercise-based interventions can play a key role in alleviating symptom burden and enhancing physical performance; however, there is limited evidence regarding their impact on neurophysiological mechanisms. Creative dance, in combination with strength training, may stimulate both motor and cognitive systems, promoting brain plasticity and functional improvements. This study will analy

Leg Dominance Effects During Single- and Dual-Task Modified Balance Error Scoring System Assessment in Collegiate and High School Athletes.

BACKGROUND: The modified Balance Error Scoring System (mBESS) incorporates nondominant leg stance for a ceiling effect, but that may not be the worse balancing leg. Updated recommendations call for single- and dual-task tandem gait, but limited research has explored these effects on the mBESS. PURPOSES: To compare mBESS performance between dominant and nondominant legs during single and dual tasks and to determine 1-week test-retest reliability. STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional study; Level of evidence, 3. METHODS: A total of 119 intercollegiate, collegiate club, and high school athletes were

Associations between dual-task walking and cognitive impairment in people attending a cognitive diagnostic clinic.

OBJECTIVES: Dual-task walking performance is an early marker of dementia. However, there is uncertainty about which measure of the dual-task test is a better marker. The objective of this study was to determine which dual-task measure best differentiates between normal cognition, mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia. METHODS: Participants (n = 116) were aged ≥60 years attending a cognitive clinic in Melbourne, Australia. Single- and dual-task gait speed were obtained using a 16 metre distance and stopwatch. The cognitive task involved reciting alternate letters of the alphabet sitting

Persons in remission from recurrent low back pain alter trunk coupling under dual-task interference during a dynamic balance task.

This study investigated effects of cognitive dual-task interference and task prioritization instructions on task performance and trunk control during a dynamic balance task in persons with and without recurrent low back pain (rLBP). First, we tested the hypothesis that those with rLBP rely more on cognitive resources than back-healthy controls, and therefore trunk kinematics would be altered under dual-task interference conditions. Then, we tested participants' ability to modulate task performance in accord with prioritization instructions. Persons with and without rLBP (n = 19/group) performe

Design and Experimental Investigation of a Multi-Level Heartbeat Sound Feedback-Based Neurofeedback System: Neural Mechanisms.

Auditory neurofeedback training (NFT) based on brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) has recently entered the precision motor domain as a task-embedded neural state regulation paradigm. Compared to traditional standalone NFT approaches (e.g., relaxation or attention training designed to enhance general cognitive abilities), task-embedded paradigms integrate feedback directly into the motor task execution process. However, this design inevitably creates a dual-task scenario, and the effects of such a scenario on neural activity and behavioral performance have received limited systematic investigatio

Comparing the effectiveness of dual-task and single-task training on walking function in stroke recovery: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Stroke is a prevalent neurological disease with high morbidity and disability. Single-task walking training has limitations, and dual-task walking training has emerged. Yet, research on the relative effectiveness of dual- and single-task training for stroke patients' walking function is inconclusive. This study aims to systematically compare the efficacy of dual-task with single-task training interventions on improving walking function among stroke survivors. METHODS: A comprehensive search of electronic databases was conducted to identify randomized controlled trials investigatin

Neuropsychological attention skills and related behaviours in adults with tuberous sclerosis complex.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a genetic disorder associated with mTOR over-activation and disruption of MAPK, PI3K and AMPK signalling. Children with TSC have significant deficits on neuropsychological attention tasks, particularly dual tasking. Here we investigated attentional skills and related behaviours in daily life in normally intelligent adults with TSC and matched controls using the Test of Everyday Attention for Children (TEA-Ch) and the Attention-Deficit Scales for Adults (ADSA). No group differences were demonstrated on selective or sustained attention tasks carried out alone.
