Several clinical manifestations of COVID-19 have been reported in the literature since then. In addition to upper respiratory symptoms, dysgeusia and anosmia are relatively common neurological manifestations with COVID-19. We had five cases of hiccups in succession; therefore, we assume that hiccups might be a specific symptom of COVID-19. We retrospectively analyzed 46 patients with COVID-19 diagnosed from February 2021 to May 2021. Among the 46 patients, 5 developed hiccups (11%). All patients were male. The median age of was 56 years. None of the patients were smokers. Further, all patients

Although high-degree atrioventricular (AV) block in patients with a history of syncope usually requires pacemaker implantation, therapeutic strategies should also be considered. A 35-year-old man presented with complaints of palpitations, nausea and dysgeusia. Since aged 30, the patient had experienced three episodes of syncope. Holter monitoring showed transient high-degree AV block (up to 5:4 block) associated with nausea, eructation and dysgeusia irrelevant to posture as well as ventricular ectopic beats with palpitation. A head-up tilt test revealed neurally mediated vasodepression but ele

There is accumulating anecdotal evidence that anosmia and dysgeusia are associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. To investigate their relationship to SARS-CoV2 infection, the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery developed the COVID-19 Anosmia Reporting Tool for Clinicians for the basis of this pilot study. This tool allows health care providers to confidentially submit cases of anosmia and dysgeusia related to COVID-19. We analyzed the first 237 entries, which revealed that anosmia was noted in 73% of patients prior to COVID-19 diagnosis and was the initial symptom in 26.6%.

The exact profiles of the clinical symptoms related to the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) remain largely uncertain. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the clinical manifestations of infection with this variant. We enrolled individuals who were tested by quantitative nasopharyngeal swab reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test at a large screening center in a city of Japan during the B.1.1.529 Omicron variant wave between January and May 2022, after contact with COVID-19 patients. Swab tests were planned to be performed approximately 4-5 days after contact. The

PURPOSE: Dysgeusia and taste alterations (TAs) are side effects of cytotoxic chemotherapy and affect patients' quality of life; however, the prevalence, types, and duration of TAs and their potential relationship with other clinical disturbances are not well-described. Our primary aim was to prospectively evaluate the characteristics of TAs in early breast cancer (EBC) patients during (neo)adjuvant chemotherapy and up to 1 year after its completion.
METHODS: From April 2014 to June 2018, 182 EBC patients entered the study and received (neo)adjuvant chemotherapy, mostly with taxane and anthrac

Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy is a relatively safe procedure, but it is nevertheless associated with certain complications. Some of these include throat pain, otalgia, dehydration, hemorrhage, nasopharyngeal stenosis, velopharyngeal insufficiency, burns, soft-tissue injury, dentomandibular trauma, atlantoaxial subluxation, and respiratory compromise. One unusual complication is altered taste. To the best of the author's knowledge, only 29 cases of altered taste associated with palatine tonsillectomy have been previously reported in the literature since 1966. In this article, the author repor
