Economic Empowerment and Tolerance of Domestic Violence Among Married Women: A Cross-Sectional Study.

We evaluated whether markers of economic empowerment are associated with a tolerant attitude toward spousal physical violence (SPV) among employed married women in Nigeria. Cross-sectional analyses of responses to the 2013 Nigeria Demographic Health Survey by a nationally representative sample of 3,999 women aged 15 to 49 years who reported being employed and married. Tolerance for SPV was defined as supporting statements with justifications for wife-beating. Logistic regression assessed the associations of reporting tolerance for SPV with educational attainment and interspousal equivalency in

Effects of Maternal Empowerment on Childhood Undernutrition in Bangladesh: Findings from Nationally Representative Surveys.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Empowered mothers are more likely to adopt recommended childcare practices, thereby contributing to reduced childhood undernutrition. However, the magnitude of the association between maternal empowerment and childhood undernutrition in Bangladesh has not been comprehensively assessed. This study aims to address this research gap. METHODS: The Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey (BDHS) 2017-18 and BDHS 2022 served as data sources. Maternal empowerment was assessed across three domains, e.g., attitude to violence, social independence, and decision making, using the

Towards Inclusive Fiscal Policy: A Disability-Responsive Taxation Framework for Equity and Economic Empowerment.

INTRODUCTION: Disability in South Africa remains a key driver of socioeconomic inequality, affecting labour market participation, income security, and access to social protection. Conventional fiscal instruments, including medical tax credits and deductions, favour formally employed, higher-income taxpayers, leaving many persons with disabilities fiscally excluded. This study used a mixed-methods secondary analysis of peer-reviewed literature, policy documents, labour force data, disability grant records, and household cost estimates to develop a conceptual framework for disability-responsive

The effect of schedule management empowerment on hospital attractivity and nurses' loyalty: a mixed method study.

CONTEXT: Thoroughgoingly transformed by successive crises, particularly Covid-19, medical and nursing organizations have found themselves subject to increasing imbalance. Loyalty building and professional attractivity have come to depend on the confidence, autonomy, and responsibility granted to employees. The cruciality of the physician/head nurse tandem in professional quality of life and patient care is now widely recognized. That much said, as demonstrated in 2020 by the World Health Organization (WH0), scheduling management has remained complex and time-consuming, and continues to represe

Empowerment of genetic information by women at-risk of being carriers of Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophies.

The emergence of therapies acting on specific molecular targets for Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophies (DBMD) led to expanded access of diagnostic DMD analysis. However, it is unclear how much of these advances have also improved healthcare and access to genetic testing for women at-risk of being carriers. This study evaluates the process of genetic counseling and empowerment of genetic information by women from DBMD families. We carried out a cross-sectional study between February and June 2022 in Brazil. The online survey with items regarding sociodemographic data; family history; acce

Navigating (Dis)empowerment: Dialectical Tensions in the Enactment of Resilience of College Students with Eating Disorders.

Research has shown a dramatic increase of eating disorders (EDs) among young people during disruptive times. Understanding the role of communication in impeding or enacting resilience not only helps those with EDs develop better strategies for coping and changing their lives but can also inform effective interventions at familial, community, and system levels. Guided by the communication theory of resilience (CTR), our study explores how college students with EDs enacted resilience through recalled interactions with parents, friends, community members, and health professionals during the COVID

جِین(Gene): A Co-Designed Smartphone App for Genetics Education and Empowerment in the Pakistani Community.

In the Pakistani/British Pakistani community in England it is quite common for people to marry close cousin relatives, which can increase the chances of certain genetic problems in their children. Families in these situations often have little knowledge of genetics and encounter difficulties accessing genetic counselling services and culturally appropriate genetics information is needed to support these families. We describe the co-design of a prototype culturally sensitive smart phone app with the British Pakistani community, to improve understanding of genetics and genetic services.
