Juvenile psammomatoid ossifying fibroma of the ethmoid sinus successfully treated by endoscopic sinus surgery: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Juvenile ossifying fibromas (JOF) are benign osteofibrous tumors very rarely located in paranasal sinus. The diagnostic and therapeutic tools applied in sinonasal inflammatory pathologies and other tumors fail to address a specific management in this rare pathology. Currently, the only available treatment is surgery. Endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) allows a complete but minimally invasive approach compared to the open technique, especially for the minor demolition on growing bone structures. CASE DESCRIPTION: We describe a case of a 13-year-old boy presenting in the Emergency Depar

Unilateral Absence of Ethmoid Sinus and Nasal Turbinates: A Rare Case Report.

A variety of anatomical variation of paranasal sinus and nasal turbinates exist, as its development is a complex and long standing process. Computerized Tomography (CT) of the paranasal sinuses is a very valuable tool in diagnosing these variations. Preoperatively defining the anatomical variations of the intranasal structures is essential in performing the safe functional endoscopic sinus surgery and to avoid unnecessary complications. Several degrees and combinations of aplasias and hypoplasias have been reported. We report a case of 37-year-old male who presented with bilateral nasal block

Case report: Endoscopic endonasal removal of large osteoma in the ethmoid sinus.

PROBLEM: A 25-year-old man presented with a large osteoma in the right ethmoidal sinus. METHODOLOGY: The osteoma was removed by an endoscopic endonasal approach with a curved diamond drill and an electromagnetic navigation system. RESULT: Computed tomography 3 days after surgery showed complete removal of the osteoma and normal position of the right eyeball. No long-term follow-up results were available. CONCLUSIONS: This clinical case highlights the use of the endoscopic endonasal approach for the safe and reliable treatment of sinus osteomas, particularly large osteomas. We also describe

Effect of sinus surgery on visual disturbance caused by spheno-ethmoid mucoceles.

Fifteen patients suffering from visual disturbance of varying degrees caused by a mucocele of the posterior ethmoid and/or sphenoid sinuses underwent marsupialization of a mucocele into the nasal cavity. Five of the eight patients with severe visual loss worse than 20/200 showed recovery of measurable vision. Two of these five were operated on within 24 hours after the onset of visual loss and showed marked recovery to 20/25 and 20/15. The other seven patients who had relatively mild visual disturbance experienced improvement of visual acuity or remission of subjective complaints such as blurr

[Functional endoscopic ethmoid bone revision in inflammatory paranasal sinus diseases in childhood].

A total of 57 children aged between 5 and 15 years underwent endoscopic ethmoid surgery for recurrent acute or chronic rhinogenic sinusitis, chronic sinusitis associated with bronchial asthma or chronic bronchitis, early rhinogenous orbital complications and paranasal sinus disease associated with mucoviscidosis. The indications for surgical intervention are based on symptoms, the findings on nasal endoscopy and a CT scan of the paranasal sinuses in the coronal plane. The preoperative examination shows that in childhood there are endoscopically detectable anatomical variations of the ethmoid b

Ethmoid sinus disease: CT evaluation in 400 cases. Part I. Nonsurgical patients.

The unique anatomy of the ethmoid sinuses makes it difficult to interpret "soft-tissue clouding," especially on plain films. The clinical significance of isolated or generalized soft-tissue disease within ethmoid cells is unclear, and the patterns of bone erosion or remodeling must be relied on in establishing a specific differential diagnosis. Of 400 patients studied, 186 had inflammatory disease and 214 had tumors. Squamous cell carcinomas, metastases, and a few aggressive sarcomas were found almost exclusively to have bone destruction, while 94% of the remaining neoplasms were characterized

Concurrent osteoblastoma and aneurysmal bone cyst of the ethmoid sinus: case report.

A unique case of osteoblastoma and aneurysmal bone cyst of the ethmoid sinus is reported. A causal relationship may exist between the two entities. The computed tomography appearance consisted of a dense lesion with a thin sclerotic rim containing a low-attenuation center, causing ethmoid sinus enlargement. Similar radiologic appearances are seen with other less rare pathologies.

Analysis of anatomical variation of the inclination of lamellas attached to the skull base and its correlation with the anterior ethmoidal artery floating in the ethmoid sinus for use in endoscopic sinus surgery.

PURPOSE: Attention to the inclination of lamellas attached to the skull base, including the basal lamella of the middle turbinate, facilitates the intraoperative identification of each lamella without requiring the use of a navigation system. We classified the inclination between the lamella and the skull base in preoperative computed tomography (CT) images and examined the relationship between the lamellas attached to the skull base, including the basal lamella of the middle turbinate, and the position of the anterior ethmoidal artery (AEA). We aimed to develop a preoperative classification t

[Efficacy of glucocorticoid stent implantation in ethmoid sinus after endoscopic sinus surgery for chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps].

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of glucocorticoid sinus stents implanted 2 weeks after functional endoscopic sinus surgery(FESS) for the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps(CRSwNP). Methods:CRSwNP patients with similar bilateral lesions were randomly divided into two groups, with a stent group of 25 patients and a control group of 24 patients. Patients in the stent group had glucocorticoid sinus stents implanted into the bilateral ethmoid sinuses 2 weeks after FESS, while the control group underwent postoperative debridement only. Follow-up assessments occurred at postoper

Isolated Dizziness as an Atypical Presentation of Ethmoid Sinus Mucocele: A Case Report.

Paranasal sinus mucoceles are benign, expansile lesions that most commonly affect the frontal sinus with less frequent ethmoid sinus involvement. The most common presentation of these lesions is nasal or orbital symptoms due to their anatomical proximity to critical structures. Vestibular symptoms such as dizziness are exceedingly rare and unreported in the literature as a primary presentation of ethmoid mucoceles. We describe the case of a 77-year-old male patient with a history of well-controlled hypertension and hyperlipidemia who experienced a fall at home due to a sudden onset of dizzines

[Based on CT imaging, surgical approach selection for frontal and ethmoid sinus osteoma].

Objective:To investigate the criteria for selecting surgical approaches for frontal and ethmoid sinus osteomas of different locations and sizes on CT imaging. Methods:Using sagittal and coronal CT images, the following lines were delineated: the F-line(a horizontal line passing nasofrontal beak), the M-line(a vertical line passing paries medialis orbitae), and the P-line(a vertical line passing the center of the pupil). Classification of frontal and ethmoid sinus osteomas was based on their relationship with these lines. Appropriate surgical approaches were selected, including pure endoscopic

Ethmoid Sinus Mucosal and Lacrimal Sac Flap Anastomosing in Patients With Failed Dacryocystorhinostomy.

PURPOSE: The aim of this work is to demonstrate the outcomes of endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy (En-DCR) with anterior ethmoid sinus mucosal and posterior lacrimal sac flap anastomosing in patients with previous failed DCR. METHODS: The clinical data of patients who suffered from recurrent epiphora after failed DCR between September 2014 and March 2018 were reviewed retrospectively. Among them, those who received the second En-DCR procedure were enrolled in this study. During the surgery, anterior ethmoidectomy was performed. Posterior lacrimal sac flap was apposed closely to the mucosal of a
