Characterization of residual lignin after SO(2)-catalyzed steam explosion and enzymatic hydrolysis of Eucalyptus viminalis wood chips.

The lignin component found in both water insoluble (WI) and water and alkali insoluble (WIA) fractions derived from SO(2)-impregnated steam-exploded eucalyptus chips (SEE) was isolated and characterized. Dioxane lignins with a sugar content lower than 2% (w/w) were obtained after each material was treated with commercial cellulases. The C9 formulas of both SEE-WI and SEE-WIA dioxane lignins were C(9)H(6.83)N(0.04)O(2.24)(OCH(3))(1.21)(OH(aro))(0.56)(OH(ali))(0. 77) and C(9)H(8.65)N(0.29)O(1.97)(OCH(3))(0.90)(OH(aro))(0. 46)(OH(ali))(1.02), respectively. Comparative Structure and Arsenate Removal Performance of Chemically Synthesized and Eucalyptus globulus-Mediated Sulfurised Zero-Valent Iron Nanoparticles.

Sulfurised zerovalent iron nanoparticles (S-nZVI) are highly reactive materials for arsenic removal; however, the influence of green synthesis routes on their surface chemistry and adsorption behavior remains insufficiently understood. In this study, sulfurized iron nanoparticles were synthesized through two distinct pathways: conventional chemical reduction (S-nZVI) and a plant-mediated route using Eucalyptus globulus leaf extracts (GS-nZVI), enabling a direct comparison of their structural properties and arsenate removal performance. Structural characterization revealed that chemically synth

Elevated CO2 Shifts Photosynthetic Constraint from Stomatal to Biochemical Limitations During Induction in Populus tomentosa and Eucalyptus robusta.

The relative impacts of biochemical and stomatal limitations on photosynthesis during photosynthetic induction have been well studied for diverse plants under ambient CO2 concentration (Ca). However, a knowledge gap remains regarding how the various photosynthetic components limit duction efficiency under elevated CO2. In this study, we experimentally investigated the influence of elevated CO2 (from 400 to 800 μmol mol-1) on photosynthetic induction dynamics and its associated limitation components in two broadleaved tree species, Populus tomentosa and Eucalyptus robusta. The results show that

Leaf consumption by insects in three Eucalyptus forest types in Southeastern Australia and their role in short-term nutrient cycling.

Leaf consumption by insects in three Eucalyptus forest types (E. delegatensis, E. dives and E. pauciflora) in the Brindabella mountains, A.C.T., was studied over a two year period. Foliage consumption was calculated using two methods: (1) sampling of foliage repeatedly through the season and measurement of leaf area loss due to insects and (2) calculation of the mass of leaves consumed, based on frass-fall measurements. Intensive sampling of tree canopies for defoliating insects was also carried out in all three forest types. Defoliation, as estimated by measurement of leaf area loss, did not

Anticoccidial activity of a botanical natural product based on eucalyptus, apigenin and eugenol against Eimeria tenella in broiler chickens.

BACKGROUND: Chicken coccidiosis is an intracellular parasitic disease that presents major challenges to the development of the commercial poultry industry. Perennial drug selective pressure has led to the multi-drug resistance of chicken coccidia, which makes the prevention and control of chicken coccidiosis extremely difficult. In recent years, natural plant products have attracted the attention of researchers due to their inherent advantages, such as the absence of veterinary drug residues. The development of these natural products provides a new direction for the prevention and treatment of
