Low-dose naltrexone for treatment of dermatologic conditions: A clinical review.

Naltrexone is a long-acting opioid receptor antagonist that may be compounded at lower doses (1-5 mg) to treat inflammatory or autoimmune conditions. Low-dose naltrexone (LDN) transiently blocks the opioid receptor, resulting in increased ligand and receptor expression, favoring κ over μ receptors and decreasing inflammatory mediators and itch. In addition, LDN antagonizes nonopioid receptors, including the pro-inflammatory toll-like receptor 4. Altogether, the anti-inflammatory properties of LDN have supported its use in dermatologic conditions, including Hailey-Hailey disease, Darier disease

Guidelines for the Acute Treatment of Cerebral Edema in Neurocritical Care Patients.

BACKGROUND: Acute treatment of cerebral edema and elevated intracranial pressure is a common issue in patients with neurological injury. Practical recommendations regarding selection and monitoring of therapies for initial management of cerebral edema for optimal efficacy and safety are generally lacking. This guideline evaluates the role of hyperosmolar agents (mannitol, HTS), corticosteroids, and selected non-pharmacologic therapies in the acute treatment of cerebral edema. Clinicians must be able to select appropriate therapies for initial cerebral edema management based on available eviden

SCOPE-K: development and initial validation of a novel self-referential expertise-mapping instrument for interprofessional education.

Interprofessional education (IPE) evaluation often relies on attitudes and satisfaction rather than case-anchored judgments about expertise distribution. We developed the Scope of Practice Evaluation, Knowledge Domain (SCOPE-K) to measure learners' self-referential expertise-mapping judgments; whether a clinical question falls within their own profession's knowledge domain. Undergraduate medical, nursing, and pharmacy students (N = 126) completed SCOPE-K before and after an interprofessional simulation. For each of eight, profession-linked clinical questions, participants rated relevance to th

Climate change, pharmaceuticals and prescribing patterns: a scoping review and proposal for the MAMS model for healthcare educators.

BACKGROUND: Healthcare contributes substantially to climate change, and pharmaceuticals account for a meaningful share of this footprint across manufacturing, distribution, prescribing, and disposal. However, climate-health education and prescribing practices are often addressed separately, leaving limited guidance for integrating climate change, pharmaceuticals, and prescribing patterns within a single framework. This scoping review synthesizes evidence on the intersection of these domains, with attention to how these concepts are incorporated into health professions education (HPE) and clini

Treatment recommendations for recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis across complementary and conventional disciplines: a national survey of Australian healthcare professionals.

INTRODUCTION: Management of recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis remains challenging. It is treated by healthcare professionals across disciplines including general practice, pharmacy, and complementary medicine. Conventional antifungal regimens supported by formal treatment guidelines are the standard of care. No standardised guidance exists for complementary medicine, and the treatments used in contemporary practice remain largely undocumented. AIM: To identify treatments recommended for recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis across healthcare disciplines and the sources used to inform clinical d

Etiquette of the antibiotic decision-making process for surgical prophylaxis in Ethiopia: a triangulated ethnographic study.

BACKGROUND: Prophylactic antibiotics reduce surgery-associated infections and healthcare costs. While quantitative methods have been widely used to evaluate antibiotic use practices in surgical wards, they fall short of fully capturing the intricacies of antibiotic decision-making in these settings. Qualitative methods can bridge this gap by delving into the often-overlooked healthcare customs that shape antibiotic prescribing practices. AIM: This study aimed to explore the etiquette of the antibiotic decision-making process of surgical prophylaxis antibiotic use at Tikur Anbessa Specialized

[Clinical practice guideline for the use of new-generation tetracycline-class antibiotics in pediatrics (2026 edition)].

The first-generation tetracyclines were natural products derived from microbial metabolism and approved for the treatment of various bacterial infections. After being widely used in clinical treatment, tetracyclines were found to cause adverse effects such as permanent tooth discoloration and enamel hypoplasia in children<8 years of age. Consequently, for more than half a century, warnings related to tooth discoloration have been included in the labels of all tetracycline-class agents, and they are not recommended for use in children under 8 years of age. Subsequently, the second-generation an
