This report describes a new, simple, and systematic approach, Continuous Feeding Insulin Injection (CFII), designed to stabilize severe glucose variability and optimize nutritional delivery in critically ill patients when intensive insulin therapy (IIT) alone proves insufficient. Septic patients frequently develop inflammation-induced insulin resistance, resulting in recurrent episodes of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia. Fever, systemic inflammation, and appetite loss further disrupt glucose homeostasis, complicating nutritional management. CFII integrates two key components: continuous enteral

We aimed to identify the steps involved in the Kumagai method-an experimental nursing procedure to feed children with cleft lip and/or palate, using a feeder with a long nipple. We conducted a descriptive study, enrolling five specialist nurses who have mastered the Kumagai method. Their approaches were examined using structured interviews. Moreover, the participants were asked to perform the sequence of actions involved in this method while describing each step. Therefore, we were able to explore the Kumagai method in depth and step-by-step, including the following aspects: correct infant pos

Animal feeds are often reported to be contaminated with chemical residues, and when present above the maximum legal limit, these compounds can cause harmful effects to consumers of animal produce. Thus, animal feed safety is an important regulatory concern. The aim of this study was to optimise a multiresidue method for the simultaneous analysis of multi-class pesticides and a number of frequently used veterinary drugs using LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS. The method was validated in a range of feed matrices, including maize feed, poultry feed and mixed feed concentrate. The optimised sample preparatio

The growing popularity of baby-led weaning has generated ongoing debate regarding its nutritional adequacy and safety, particularly in relation to iron-deficiency anaemia and choking. This commentary discusses findings from a recent retrospective study published in Appetite and argues that observed risks may be less related to feeding methods themselves and more reflective of gaps in professional guidance and inconsistencies in real-world implementation. By shifting the focus from method-based comparisons to feeding practices and clinical support, this commentary highlights the importance of p

Prediabetes is associated with low-grade chronic inflammation that increases the risk for developing type 2 diabetes (T2D) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). An elevated lipopolysaccharide concentration, associated with dysbiosis of the intestinal microbiota, has been implicated in the development of both T2D and CVD. Selective modulation of the intestinal microbiota with prebiotics reduces intestinal permeability and endotoxin concentrations, inflammation, and metabolic dysfunction in rodents. The effect of prebiotic supplementation on cardio-metabolic function in humans at risk for T2D is not

A total of eight Simmental heifers (114 ± 3.2 days old and weighing 118 ± 3.8 kg BW) were used to study the effects of feeding method on intake and animal behaviour in a crossover design experiment. Treatments consisted of feeding concentrate and chopped barley straw as (1) choice (CH; concentrate and straw in separate feedbunks) or (2) total mixed ration (TMR; concentrate and straw in one feedbunk). Feeds were offered on an ad libitum basis, but always maintaining a concentrate to straw ratio of 90 to 10. The experiment was performed in two 21-day periods, and sampling was carried out in the

This study examined infant and young child feeding (IYCF) counseling, decision-making, and practices among HIV-infected women with children 0-23 months participating in Malawi's Option B+ prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) program. We conducted 160 survey interviews, 32 in-depth interviews, and 32 observations of PMTCT visits. Surveys indicated that exclusive breastfeeding was common (75 %) among children <6 months, while minimum dietary diversity (41 %) and minimum acceptable diet (40 %) for children 6-23 months occurred less often. In-depth interviews supported these findings

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Feeding poses a significant challenge for children with cleft lip and/or palate. The Kumagai method, a specialized approach for feeding these children, has been developed; its fundamental techniques have already been published. However, children often exhibit varied reactions to feeding, such as refusal and resistance. If not managed appropriately, these responses can hinder feeding progress. This study aimed to identify strategies for addressing different feeding-related movements in children with cleft lip and/or palate during bottle feeding.
METHODS: In September 2022,

Combating antimicrobial resistance is a top priority worldwide involving a concerted action by several high-level institutions and organisations in the health sector. To ensure that a meaningful progress is achieved, several campaigns and political initiatives have been launched targeting the health professionals, the industry, the farmers, and the general public. The Regulation (EU) 2019/4 on medicated feed contains provisions for the limitation and control of the contamination of non-target compound feed with 24 antimicrobials. The purpose of this work was to develop a reliable and effective

INTRODUCTION: Up to 30% of in-utero selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI)-exposed newborns experience withdrawal and up to 60% experience behavioural impacts. Breastfeeding may offer benefits from skin-to-skin contact and transfer of SSRIs through breastmilk. Limited data are available on healthcare utilisation of these newborns beyond neonatal intensive care unit admission. We aimed to identify whether newborn feeding method affected healthcare utilisation in the first 30 days of postnatal life among Neonates With In-utero SSRI Exposure (NeoWISE).

The northern fowl mite (NFM), Ornithonyssus sylviarum, is an obligate hematophagous ectoparasite of domestic and wild birds, and it is an economic pest of laying hen in North America, China, India, Australia, Myanmar, and Brazil. Such an economically important pest remains neglected in many parts of the world, including Asian countries. Therefore, concerted action is required in both basic and applied research directed at the biology and control of this destructive pest. In the present study, we have developed a novel, high-welfare in vivo feeding capsule that would permit pre-screening of new
