Super-Resolution Reconstruction of Fetal Brain MRI With Multi-View Interpolation Weight Learning.

Super-resolution reconstruction (SRR) of isotropic fetal brain MR images is critical for prenatal examinations but is hindered by fetal motion and misalignment of thick-slice scans. To address these challenges comprehensively, we introduce an innovative deep learning model, namely 3D-WISE, a 3D Weighted Interpolation for Super-resolution Estimation of fetal brain MRI. The model generates high-quality isotropic fetal brain MR images by learning the interpolation weights to correct misalignments between slices and volumes. These misalignments are estimated by extracting deep features from multip

Metabolic expenditure, neurodevelopment, and weight gain into early childhood after fetal growth restriction.

Fetal growth restriction (FGR) subjects exhibit altered metabolism, with higher metabolic rate due to their small body mass, and by adopting strategies to minimise energy expenditure. We investigated how these metabolic differences develop, or manifest in growth trajectories, after FGR, small for gestational age (SGA) with no evidence of FGR, and normal pregnancies. We curated a unique composite dataset of subjects between 14 weeks of gestation and six years of age. First, we assessed fetal and infant heart rate to assess whether higher metabolic rate persisted postnatally after FGR. Next, as

Sex-specific associations between hypertensive disorders in pregnancy and fetal and placental weight.

IMPORTANCE: Hypertensive disorders in pregnancy (HDPs) are common and increase the risk of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. HDPs may impact fetal growth; however, sex-specific effects have been understudied. OBJECTIVE: To examine whether sex-specific differences exist in the association between HDPs and birthweight and placental weight. METHODS: A birth cohort based in Detroit, Michigan, was utilized (n = 1258). HDPs and birthweight were abstracted from medical records; placental weight was obtained from placental pathology reports. Linear regression was used to model sex-specific

Estimated fetal weight and severe neonatal outcomes in preterm prelabor rupture of membranes.

Objectives Our aim was to study the association of clinical variables obtainable before delivery for severe neonatal outcomes (SNO) and develop a clinical tool to calculate the prediction probability of SNO in preterm prelabor rupture of membranes (PPROM). Methods This was a prospective study from October 2015 to May 2018. We included singleton pregnancies with PPROM and an estimated fetal weight (EFW) two weeks before delivery. We excluded those with fetal anomalies or fetal death. We examined the association between SNO and variables obtainable before delivery such as gestational age (GA) at

Comparison of automated vs. manual measurement to estimate fetal weight in isolated polyhydramnios.

Objective To understand the impact of the measurement method to predict actual birthweight in pregnancies complicated with isolated polyhydramnios in the third trimester. Methods A prospective study was conducted with 60 pregnant women between the 37th and 40th weeks of gestation. Routine biometric measurements were obtained by two-dimensional (2D) ultrasonography. When a satisfactory image was obtained, the image was frozen to get two measurements. First, calipers were placed to get the manual measurement. Then automated measurement was captured by the ultrasonography machine in the same imag

Prediction of adverse perinatal outcome by cerebroplacental ratio adjusted for estimated fetal weight.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the relationship between cerebroplacental ratio (CPR) and estimated fetal weight (EFW) in low- and high-risk singleton pregnancies. Furthermore, we evaluated the role of CPR in the prediction of adverse perinatal outcome and whether CPR measurements adjusted for EFW improve its predictive value. METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study including pregnancies in which Doppler investigations of umbilical artery (UA) and fetal middle cerebral artery (MCA) were performed at ≥ 30 weeks' gestation. Pregnancies were allocated to one of three groups according to EFW centi

Reliability of sonographic fetal weight estimation in triplet pregnancies: a retrospective cohort study.

PURPOSE: To review our experience in ultrasound fetal weight estimation in our large population of triplet pregnancies. METHODS: Ninety-seven triplet pregnancies were retrospectively included between January 2003 and January 2017. Sonographic fetal weight estimation using Hadlock's and Schild's formulas was compared to actual birth weight in a tertiary-care center in Vienna, Austria. Statistical analyses were performed using a stepwise linear regression model and crosstabs. RESULTS: The median discrepancy between the sonographically estimated fetal weight by Hadlock's formula and the actual

Relationship Between Third-Trimester Sonographic Estimate of Fetal Weight and Mode of Delivery.

OBJECTIVES: Some have suggested, based on limited data, that knowledge of an estimated fetal weight from a sonogram in a low-risk population, particularly in the setting of a larger fetus, is associated with increased risk of cesarean delivery. We aimed to investigate, among women delivering neonates weighing greater than 3500 g, whether having had a sonographically estimated fetal weight in temporal proximity to delivery was associated with the risk of cesarean delivery. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of term nulliparous women delivering live-born, cephalic, singleton, no

Impact of maternal psychological distress on fetal weight, prematurity and intrauterine growth retardation.

BACKGROUND: There are conflicting results regarding the association of maternal antenatal distress with preterm birth and low birth weight. This study investigated the association between maternal distress and intrauterine growth abnormality, low birth weight and preterm birth. METHODS: Three mutually exclusive and homogeneous groups of pregnant women (with actual psychiatric disorder, with maternal psychological distress, and healthy comparisons) underwent fetal ultrasound examinations, uterine and umbilical artery Doppler velocimetry. Infant weight was measured and information collected on

Low blood pressure among very-low-birth-weight infants with fetal vessel inflammation.

OBJECTIVE: To test the hypothesis that fetal vessel inflammation (FVI: funisitis and/or fetal vasculitis) is associated with lower blood pressure (BP) over the first week of life and an increased risk of periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) among premature infants. STUDY DESIGN: A total of 255 infants born at <1350 g to normotensive mothers were stratified by gestational age (GA) and grouped by presence/absence of FVI on placental pathology. Daily highest (Hi) and lowest (Lo) systolic BP (BP(sys)), mean BP (BP(mn)) and diastolic BP (BP(dia)) over first 7 days of life were analyzed by repeated m

Size and shape of the four-chamber view of the fetal heart in fetuses with an estimated fetal weight less than the tenth centile.

BACKGROUND: Fetuses with an estimated fetal weight below the 10th centile have an increased risk of adverse perinatal and long-term outcomes as well as increased rates of cardiac dysfunction, which often alters cardiac size and shape of the 4-chamber view and the individual ventricles. As a result, a simple method has emerged to screen for potential cardiac dysfunction in fetuses with estimated fetal weights <10th centile by measuring the size and shape of the 4-chamber view and the size of the ventricles. OBJECTIVE: To determine the number of fetuses with an abnormal size and shape of the 4-

Unconditional and conditional standards for fetal abdominal circumference and estimated fetal weight in an ethnic Chinese population: a birth cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Diagnosis of intrauterine fetal growth restriction and prediction of small-for-gestation age are often based on fetal abdominal circumference or estimated fetal weight (EFW). The present study aims to create unconditional (cross-sectional) and conditional (longitudinal) standards of fetal abdominal circumference and EFW for use in an ethnic Chinese population. METHODS: In the Growing Up in Singapore Towards healthy Outcome (GUSTO) birth cohort study in Singapore, fetal biometric measurements were obtained at enrolment to antenatal care (11-12 weeks) and up to three more time point

A randomized study of fetal abdominal diameter and fetal weight estimation for detection of light-for-gestation infants in low-risk pregnancies.

A total of 2771 pregnant women with gestational age estimated by ultrasound measurement of the fetal biparietal diameter (BPD) before the 22nd week of gestation were re-examined by ultrasound in the 32nd and 37th week of pregnancy at which time the fetal BPD and abdominal diameter (AD) were measured. An additional examination was performed at 34 weeks if the fetal weight in the 32nd week was estimated to be less than 95% of the expected mean weight. Light-for-gestational age (LGA) was suspected if the estimated birth-weight was less than 85% of the expected mean birthweight. This applied to 18

Altered Cord Blood Lipid Concentrations Correlate with Birth Weight and Doppler Velocimetry of Fetal Vessels in Human Fetal Growth Restriction Pregnancies.

Fetal growth restriction (FGR) is associated with short- and long-term morbidity, often with fetal compromise in utero, evidenced by abnormal Doppler velocimetry of fetal vessels. Lipids are vital for growth and development, but metabolism in FGR pregnancy, where fetuses do not grow to full genetic potential, is poorly understood. We hypothesize that triglyceride concentrations are increased in placentas and that important complex lipids are reduced in cord plasma from pregnancies producing the smallest babies (birth weight < 5%) and correlate with ultrasound Dopplers. Dopplers (umbilical arte

The effect of maternal and fetal weight on the risk of emergency cesarean section in nulliparous women.

Although many studies based on different ethnic groups have analyzed the impact of maternal and infant weight on overall cesarean section rates in recent years, research on the impact of maternal and infant weight on emergency cesarean section (EmCS) rates is lacking, especially in the Chinese population. This study aimed to analyze whether maternal and fetal weight could influence the risk of EmCS. A total of 8427 nulliparous women who delivered vaginally (full-term, singleton, and cephalic presentation) were included in this study and divided into the normal vaginal delivery (VD) and EmCS gr
