PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to investigate the failure of fibrin sealant treatment for fistula-in-ano in an experimental porcine model and to determine histologic changes associated with the sealant and setons.
METHODS: Three surgically created fistulas were treated by seton drainage in each of eight male pigs. After 26 days, magnetic resonance imaging was performed and setons were removed. Chylous ascites in children has been treated in a variety of ways, including a low-fat diet, medium chain triglycerides, diuretics, total parental nutrition, surgical exploration, and internal peritoneo-venous shunting. The authors describe a child with persistent congenital chyloperitoneum treated successfully with the application of fibrin glue and recommend this as an effective alternative to traditional approaches.

Hepatic fibrin-ring granulomas were found in a 70-year-old man with prolonged fever and inflammatory syndrome. Diagnosis of giant cell arteritis was confirmed by temporal artery biopsy. Other diseases usually associated with fibrin-ring granulomas in liver, such as Q fever, cytomegalovirus hepatitis, infectious mononucleosis, Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, allopurinol treatment, and visceral leishmaniasis, were ruled out. This report suggests that giant cell arteritis should be considered as an additional cause of hepatic fibrin-ring granulomas.

In the surgical treatment of Dupuytren's disease a tissue adhesive, Tissucol (Immuno, Heidelberg), has been used rather than vacuum drainage to reduce postoperative haematoma formation. Tissucol has been used in more than 260 severe cases of Dupuytren's disease. The size of postoperative haematoma formation and the degree of necrosis of wound margins have both been significantly reduced. An earlier return to function has been observed.
