Peripheral ossifying fibromas are benign mesenchymal lesions that usually arise in the anterior maxilla of young female patients. Histologically they consist of spindle cell proliferation with focal mineralisation. We reviewed 48 specimens from 41 patients and recorded the clinical data, sex, and age of the patients, site and size of the lesions, treatment, and postoperative outcome. Histologically the presence of mature, woven bone, cementum, and calcifications were evaluated and evaluated immunohistochemically. Lesions were more frequent in female patients in the third and fourth decade, and

Fibro-osseous lesions involving the paranasal sinuses are uncommon, and making a determination of their histologic type is challenging. Correlating clinical and surgical findings with radiologic and histologic characteristics is essential for making a definitive diagnosis. We describe a case of misdiagnosed maxillary ossifying fibroma presenting as a solitary mass that completely filled and enlarged the left maxillary sinus. Another interesting finding was the presence of a molar tooth embedded in the tumor. We briefly comment on the genesis, natural course, and differential diagnosis of this

INTRODUCTION: Ossifying fibroma of the jaw is a benign tumorous disease, somewhat rare and aggressive. It frequently targets the mandible, but seldom the maxillary.
CASE STUDY: The present study reports the first case of left maxillary sinus fibroma treated at the Kara Teaching Hospital in North Togo. It occurred in a 29-year-old patient who experienced slow-growing tumefaction of the left maxillary sinus, resulting in deformation of the left side of the face in the maxillary region and ipsilateral nasal obstruction. Orthopantomography showed a displacement of teeth 21, 22, and 23 with an abn

OBJECTIVES: To describe an isolated ossifying fibroma of the mastoid cavity that did not invade the inner ear and middle ear cavity.
STUDY DESIGN: Case report.
SETTING: Department of Otolaryngology, College of Medicine, Pusan National University, a tertiary care center in Busan, South Korea.
PATIENTS AND INTERVENTION: A 34-year-old woman had an episode of acute right ear otalgia. A computed tomography scan and magnetic resonance imaging scan showed a well-circumscribed, lobulated, 3 x 3 x 3-cm sized tumor mass that was localized to the temporal bone with bony erosion including tegmen mastoi

BACKGROUND: The peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF), one of the most common gingival lesions, has a recurrence rate of nearly 20%. To minimize the reappearance of this lesion, it must be completely excised. In the maxillary anterior region, total excision of a POF can result in an unsightly gingival defect.
METHODS: Three cases are presented in which a POF was excised from the gingiva facial to a maxillary central incisor. One of these lesions had previously undergone 2 cycles of conservative excision and recurrence. In all cases, the lesions were excised down to bone. Each of the resulting gi

Ossifying fibroma is a rare benign fibro-osseous tumor that rarely arises from the paranasal sinuses and tends to involve the frontal sinus more frequently than any other. Here, we report a case of a 32-year-old woman presenting with a 1.5-year history of facial pain on the right side of her eye along with proptosis. Radiographic findings revealed total opacification and bony changes in the right frontal sinus. The patient was treated with endoscopic sinus surgery for the purpose of performing a biopsy, followed by resection using the external approach. Ossifying fibroma was confirmed histolog

INTRODUCTION: Peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF) is an unusual localized, reactive benign gingival growth. POF is usually small in size, it's measure <2 cm in diameter, but rarely reaches important sizes. The aim of this work was to present a rare case report of a giant peripheral ossifying fibroma of the mandible measuring >2 cm in diameter, misdiagnosed as peripheral myxoma.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 42-year-old woman with a large peripheral ossifying fibroma in the oral cavity measuring 6 × 4 cm in diameter. The patient presented with an asymptomatic, slowly growing gingi

A 2-year-old mare of an unknown breed was referred to the clinic due to undetermined breathing difficulties. Physical examination revealed painless swelling rostral to the nasoincisive notch and a large, firm mass protruding from the left nostril. Radiographic examination of the head revealed a mass occupying the left nasal cavity and a displaced and hypoplastic last premolar of the left maxilla. The CT scan showed a well-demarcated heterogeneous mass measuring 22 × 9 × 5 cm (length × height × width) in the left nasal cavity attached to the roots of the displaced tooth and conchae. The surgery

Osteoglophonic dwarfism, also known as osteoglophonic dysplasia (OD), is an uncommon skeletal dysplasia with an autosomal dominant mode of inheritance, which equally affects boys and girls. OD is saliently featured by craniosynostosis, dysmorphic facial features, impacted mandibular teeth, rhizomelic limb shortening and non-ossifying fibromas habitually at the metaphyseal regions, which usually disappear after skeletal maturity. The long bones in OD are portrayed by this distinguishable 'hollowed-out' appearance with metaphyseal cystic defects that have a natural history of spontaneous resolut

The management of patients with juvenile ossifying fibroma (JOF) remains controversial. To explore the correlations between different treatments and the patient prognosis, 15 cases of JOF of the jaw were reviewed. Five patients were male and 10 were female. Patient age at the time of disease onset ranged from 7 to 18 years (mean 10.9 years). Nine tumours were located in mandible and six in the maxilla. These cases typically manifested clinically as painless swelling of the jaw (9/15, 60%); 40% (6/15) of the cases were associated with pain, diplopia, stuffy nose, and/or rapid growth. Images of

A peripheral cement-ossifying fibroma is a benign fibro-osseous lesion of a reactive rather than a neoplastic nature, whose pathogenesis is uncertain. It predominantly affects adolescents and young adults, with the peak prevalence between 10 and 19 years, especially affecting females (two to four times more). Such lesions are commonly found on the maxillary bone. We hereby present and discuss a unique case of multicentric Peripheral Ossifying Fibroma (POF) affecting both the maxillary and the mandibular gingiva in an 11-year-old boy, with a disease duration of two months. This case is probably

BACKGROUND: The occurrence of ossifying fibromas (OFs) in childhood and adolescence has been described in the literature, along with different courses of the disease due to different growth rates.
CASE REPORT: In the case of the 15-year-old female patient presented here, an OF resulted in displacement of a maxillary third molar far into the maxillary sinus. It is assumed that the tumour originated coronal to the affected tooth 18. Radiographs document an initial rapid growth of this tumour over a period of 2 years, while its growth almost completely ceased in the next 2 years immediately prio

OBJECTIVE: Describe the exceptional and fortuitous character of the association of ossifying fibroma and hyperparathyroidism in a chronic hemodialyzed patient.
CASE REPORT: A twenty-year-old man who had undergone dialysis for ten years as the result of an indeterminate nephropathy was admitted for a functional disability in the standing position and a serious dysmorphic syndrome with swelling of the jaws that hindered proper closure of the mouth.
RESULTS: Medical imagery revealed a polyostotic attack pleading in favor of renal osteodystrophy or a fibrous dysplasia. The surgical reduction of

Twelve cases of ossifying fibroma of long bones, the lesions in 11 cases were resected with their sclerotic margin. Inactivation of the tumor cells within bone cavity was applied 50% Zinc Chloride, and autogenous bone grafts were applied with or without a few man-made bones. One case was treated by en bloc resection of the lesion. Follow-up for 3-14 years revealed that 2 cases recurred, and secondary operation was performed. After that follow-up for 5-14 years revealed no-recurrence. Recurrence rate of these cases was low and the effect of treatment was satisfactory. This kind of lesion showed

Non-ossifying fibromas are common benign lesions of tubular long bones. There is recognized association of these bony lesions with neurofibromatosis type 1 although the presence of non-ossifying fibromas in familial members with the condition has not previously been reported. We report two siblings with neurofibromatosis and radiological evidence of multiple lower limb non-ossifying fibromas. Both patients presented with pain in the knees and a pathological fracture was observed in one case. Patients with multiple non-ossifying fibromas should be examined carefully for other evidence of neurof

Cytogenetic analysis of a cemento-ossifying fibroma from a patient with nonfamilial bilateral multicentric retinoblastoma revealed three reciprocal translocations with the karyotype 46,XY,t(1;18)(q21;q21.3),t(3;10)(p13;q22),t(6;11)(p22;p15). Routine and high-resolution cytogenetic analysis of peripheral blood leukocytes showed an apparently normal, 46,XY chromosome pattern with no deletion of chromosome 13. Molecular analysis demonstrated no gross differences in the retinoblastoma gene or the TP53 gene between constitutional and tumor DNA. This is the first cytogenetic analysis of a cemento-os

Peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF) is a benign swelling of the gingival connective tissue commonly associated with dental biofilm and biofilm-retentive dental appliances. In the present case report, we described three cases of POF with different clinical presentations and treatment approaches. The treatment consisted of the removal of supra- and subgingival calculus, followed by a flap surgery with excision of the entire lesion ensuring the inclusion of the periosteal bed. The first patient developed POF during her pregnancy that remained clinically noticeable postpartum. The second case repre

A 39 years old male patient was admitted with the right of facial abnormalities and gradually protruding in right eye more than 30 years. CT shows high mixed density, clear boundary, and the right eye was crowded to the right. Giant tumor had completely been excised, and the result was fine. The outline figure and function of patients were obviously improved. The pathological examination after resection showed ossifying fibroma.
