This study looks at child abuse as a part of family violence and includes a literature review of the previous Finnish studies on child abuse. The data of the study comes from a poll conducted in Finland in the autumn of 1981 of 530 of the Finnish population older than 14 years of age: 3% of respondents had observed physical violence towards small children and 1% towards teenagers; 44% of the respondents were of the opinion that physical punishment of children was needed at least on certain occasions. To assess the current epidemiological situation concerning lower limb amputations in southern Finland the data on all amputations made in the catchment area of the Helsinki University Central Hospital were analysed for the period 1984-85. We aimed to identify risk factors for human cryptosporidiosis and to determine the significance of Cryptosporidium parvum as a causative agent. Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are a diverse group of clonal hematopoietic stem cell diseases that may progress to acute myeloid leukemia. Here, we present incidence of myelodysplastic syndromes based on a nationwide, registry-based study. A total of 1906 MDS cases were reported to the Finnish Cancer Registry during 1997-2016.
