PURPOSE: Hairs from the caterpillar of the pine processionary moth, Thaumetopoea pityocampa, located in the pine forests of southern Europe and elsewhere, can become embedded in the cornea and conjunctiva. Disorders produced by the urticating hairs can be classified into a broad spectrum of severity from mild keratoconjunctivitis to anaphylactic shock. PURPOSE: To investigate the effect of short-term brinzolamide application on human central corneal thickness (CCT).
METHODS: Seventeen eyes of 16 patients who underwent neodymium:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy were included in the study group. Twenty-two subjects served as controls. Brinzolamide twice daily and fluorometholone four times daily were initiated after the procedure. Corneal thickness was evaluated with an ultrasound pachymetry from the central region. CCT measurements were performed before the procedure, at first day, and at the end of first week.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of the AcuFocus small aperture corneal inlay (KAMRA) for the correction of presbyopia using femto-LASIK.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: This is a prospective, non-randomised cohort study including 50 presbyopic patients with hyperopia, emmetropia or mild myopia. The intracorneal inlay was implanted in the non-dominant eye using a VisuMax femtosecond laser (Zeiss 500 kHz) to create a superior-hinged flap. The inlay was centred over the visual axis. PURPOSE: To compare efficiency and tolerance between topical 0.5% cyclosporine A (CSA) and fluorometholone (FML) for subepithelial infiltrates (SEI) complicating epidemic keratoconjunctivitis.
METHODS: We conducted a prospective double-blind randomized study involving 72 eyes with SEI. Thirty-eight eyes were treated with topical FML (FML group) and 34 eyes with CSA 0.5% eye drops (CSA group). Treatment was considered successful in case of SEI reduction and visual acuity improvement. Tolerance was evaluated by Schirmer test value, burning on eye drops instillation, and conjunctival injection.
