Adsorption/Desorption and Recovery Studies for the Systems: Gallic Acid and Propyl Gallate Solutions/Activated Carbon.

The present study investigates the adsorption, desorption, and recovery behavior of two phenolic antioxidants-gallic acid (GA) and propyl gallate (PG) onto microporous activated carbon. Adsorption equilibrium and kinetic experiments were conducted at 30 and 45°C under acidic conditions (pH = 2) to evaluate the influence of temperature on adsorption efficiency and to elucidate the underlying molecular interactions. Equilibrium data were modeled using the Generalized Langmuir isotherm, revealing enhanced adsorption at higher temperature and stronger affinity of PG toward the carbon surface, cons

Effect of gallic acid in mitigating hepatorenal injuries induced by gentamicin administration in male Wistar rats.

Gentamicin (GEN) causes liver and kidney toxicity by generating free radicals and inflammation. This study tested gallic acid (GA) as an antioxidant to reduce this oxidative stress. Thirty-five male rats were divided into five groups: sham, GEN, and three GEN + GA groups with doses of 60, 90, and 120 mg/kg. After 10 days, the rats were euthanized, and their serum, kidneys, and livers were analyzed. Results showed that GEN significantly increased serum BUN, creatinine, AST, ALT, and ALP (p < 0.05). It also raised malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and the expression of TNF-α and caspase-3 genes, with

Gold nanorods non-functionalised and associated with gallic acid exhibit activity against non-albicans Candida species.

Strategies focusing on natural compounds and nanotechnology have been explored to overcome the limitations of conventional therapies in managing Candida infections. In this context, metal nanoparticles, both non-functionalised and combined with gallic acid, may offer a promising alternative. This study investigated the effects of gold nanoparticles non-functionalised (AuNp) and associated with gallic acid (AuNpGA) against planktonic cells and biofilms of Nakaseomyces glabratus, Pichia kudriavzevii, Candida parapsilosis, and Candida tropicalis. Both AuNp and AuNpGA inhibited the growth of all s

Gallic Acid Induces Neural Stem Cell Differentiation into Neurons and Proliferation through the MAPK/ERK Pathway.

Neural stem cell (NSC) differentiation and proliferation are important biological processes in the cerebral neural network. However, these two abilities of NSCs are limited. Thus, the induction of differentiation and/or proliferation through the administration of plant-derived small-molecule compounds could be used to repair damaged neural networks. The present study reported that gallic acid (GA), an important phenolic acid found in tea, selectively caused NSCs to differentiate into immature neurons and promoted NSC proliferation by activating the mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellula

Anticariogenic activities of Libidibia ferrea, gallic acid and ethyl gallate against Streptococcus mutans in biofilm model.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: In Brazil, ethnopharmacological studies show that Libidibia ferrea (Mart. ex Tul.) L. P. Queiroz is commonly used in folk medicine as an antifungal, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory. In the Amazon region, the dried fruit powder of L. ferrea are widely used empirically by the population in an alcoholic tincture as an antimicrobial mouthwash in oral infections and the infusion is also recommended for healing oral wounds. However, there are few articles that have evaluated the antimicrobial activity against oral pathogens in a biofilm model, identifying active c

Effects of Gallic Acid on Endometrial Cancer Cells in Two and Three Dimensional Cell Culture Models.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Cell culture studies are an indispensable tools used to understand basic physiological, biophysical and biomolecular mechanisms. Although traditional two-dimensional (2D) cell culture models are more preferred in experimental studies, three-dimensional (3D) cell culture models, attract more attention due to several advantages including mimicking tumor physiology, biochemistry and biomechanics. We aimed to investigate the effects of Gallic Acid, an antimutagenic, antioxidant and anticarcinogenic agent, on both 2D and 3D cultured endometrial cancer cells for the first time.

Gallic Acid Reduces Blood Pressure and Attenuates Oxidative Stress and Cardiac Hypertrophy in Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats.

Gallic acid (GA) has been reported to have beneficial effects on cancer, vascular calcification, and diabetes-induced myocardial dysfunction. We hypothesized that GA controls hypertension via oxidative stress response regulation in an animal model for essential hypertension. Spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) were administered GA for 16 weeks. GA treatment lowered elevated systolic blood pressure in SHRs through the inhibition of vascular contractility and components of the renin-angiotensin II system. In addition, GA administration reduced aortic wall thickness and body weight in SHRs. In

EGFR-dependent signalling reduced and p38 dependent apoptosis required by Gallic acid in Malignant Mesothelioma cells.

The unrestrained EGFR signalling contributes to malignant phenotype in a number of cancers including Malignant Mesotheliomas. Present study was designed to evaluate EGFR-dependent anti-proliferative and apoptotic effects of Gallic acid in transformed Mesothelial (MeT-5A) and Malignant Mesothelioma (SPC212) cells. Gallic acid reduced the viability of Malignant Mesothelioma cells in a concentration and time-dependent manner. However, viability of mesothelial cells reduced only at high concentration and longer time periods. Gallic acid restrained the activation of EGFR, ERK1/2 and AKT proteins an

Singlet Oxygen Generated by Quercetin and Gallic Acid Leads to Oxidative Fragmentation of Flavonols in Onions and Leek.

For the first time, singlet oxygen was shown to be generated by quercetin and gallic acid under mild conditions (37 °C, pH 7) and exclusion of light. In contrast to kaempferol, quercetin induced its own oxidative fragmentation, yielding protocatechuic acid (3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid) and 2,4,6-trihydroxybenzoic acid as the corresponding counterparts. If a 4-molar excess of gallic acid was coincubated, quercetin fragmentation reached 25 mol %, but now also kaempferol gave 7 mol % p-hydroxybenzoic acid. The hydroxybenzoic acids formed always showed the B-ring substitution pattern of the precurso
