Sciatic nerve compression due to a ganglion cyst around the posterior aspect of the hip joint is not commonly described in literature. We report a rare case of a 63-year-old man with a ganglion cyst around his hip joint, who presented with symptoms of sciatica. After excision of the cyst, the patient was symptom free. A high index of clinical doubt and detailed clinical examination is required for non-palpable cystic lesions in close proximity to the sciatic nerve in patients presenting with symptoms of sciatica and in patients with concomitant of lumbar disk herniation.

Entrapment neuropathies of the fibular nerve and its branches are often underdiagnosed due to the lack of reliable diagnosis using clinical examination and electrophysiologic evaluation. Most fibular nerve compressions may be classified into 2 broad categories: (a) mechanical causes, which occur at fibrous or fibro-osseous tunnels, and (b) dynamic causes related to nerve injury during specific limb positioning. Foot drop resulting from weakness of the dorsiflexor muscles of the foot is a relatively uncommon presentation and closely related to L5 neuropathy caused by a disc herniation. However,

Intraneural ganglion cysts are uncommon cystic lesions of peripheral nerves that are typically encountered in adults. In the lower extremity, the peroneal nerve is most frequently affected with involvement of the tibial nerve much less common. This article describes a tibial intraneural ganglion cyst in a 10-year-old boy. Although extremely rare, intraneural ganglion cysts of the tibial nerve should be considered when a nonenhancing cystic structure with intra-articular extension is identified along the course of the nerve. This report also details the unsuccessful attempt at percutaneous trea

Ganglionic and synovial cysts of articular joints are the most common benign soft tissue tumours in the hand and the wrist. Although used synonymously, the histology and pathogenesis are different. In the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), ganglionic and synovial cysts are very rare. We describe a case and present a review of the literature.

Ganglion cysts are ubiquitous cystic lesions without synovial wall and inconstant communication with the articular cavity. The later must nonetheless always be carefully looked for. We report two cases of ganglion cyst rupture in the retrofemoral fat simulating phlebitis with thigh cellulitis. To the best of our knowledge, this has not been previously reported in the literature. Familiarity with this entity ensures adequate medical diagnosis and management, avoiding unnecessary imaging and laboratory work-up and inappropriate use of anticoagulant and antibiotic.

An unusual case of an intraneural ganglion cyst of the hypoglossal nerve is presented. Only one case of this rare clinical entity has been reported previously. A 51-year-old woman presented with a 6-month history of left-sided hypoglossal nerve palsy. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a cystic lesion related to the hypoglossal canal. There was no enhancement of the lesion after administration of Gd. A high-resolution computerized tomography scan of the skull base demonstrated an enlargement of the hypoglossal canal. To access the lesion, a far-lateral endoscope-assisted microsurgical approac

We report the case of a 31-year-old, otherwise healthy man with a large intra-articular meniscal ganglion cyst (27.7 x 13.5 mm) originating from the dorsal horn of the lateral meniscus. Clinically, the patient presented with knee pain in a squatting position. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a large intra-articular cyst in the posterior compartment. At arthroscopic surgery, the ganglion cyst was found in the intercondylar space posteriorly to the posterior cruciate ligament. After removal of the ganglion cyst, a horizontal tear in the dorsal horn of the lateral meniscus was revealed and tre

BACKGROUND: Wrist ganglion cysts (GCs) are the most common soft-tissue masses of the hand and wrist. Although surgical excision is considered the most effective treatment, recurrence remains a clinical concern. Anatomical and demographic predictors of postoperative recurrence are not well established.
METHODS: We included 347 patients who underwent surgical excision of wrist GCs between 2015 and 2023, with a minimum follow-up of 24 months. Clinical data (age, sex, side, hand dominance) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based topographic features (volume, surface area, wall thickness, locat

INTRODUCTION: Ganglion cysts (GCs) are a form of benign soft tissue mass commonly seen on the dorsum of the wrist that could also form in the hand. They can cause pain and impede physical activities. Despite extensive studies, there has not been a thorough analysis of the top 50 GC articles. This bibliometric analysis examines the most cited research on GC of the wrist with the aim of uncovering existing trends and future directions in the field.
METHODS: The authors conducted a comprehensive search utilizing the Web of Science Core Collection on November 16, 2023, to identify the top 50 cite

Background: Proximal tibiofibular joint (PTFJ) ganglion cyst is a rare condition with a high rate of recurrence. Optimal treatment has not yet been determined. Purpose: We aimed to answer the following questions: (1) What are the most common treatments for PTFJ cysts and their associated recurrence rates? (2) What are the risk factors for failure to completely recover from symptoms? (3) What are the risk factors for cyst recurrence? Methods: A systematic review was performed using PubMed and EMBASE databases. Studies were assessed for inclusion and exclusion criteria, and quality analysis foll

INTRODUCTION: Intraneural ganglion cysts in the tarsal tunnel are rare but are being increasingly reported. The cysts involve the tibial or plantar nerves and are most commonly derived from a neighboring (degenerative) joint, (i.e., the tibiotalar or subtalar) via an articular branch arising from the medial aspect of the nerve. We describe a safe zone for approaching these cysts in the tarsal tunnel that allows for identification of the joint connection without injury to important distal branches.
METHODS: We present a case of an intraneural ganglion cyst within the tarsal tunnel in a patient

INTRODUCTION: Two types of ganglion cysts at the elbow have been described depending on their anatomic location. Type A ganglion cyst is located proximal to the arcade of Frohse, and type B distal to it. Compressive neuropathies of the radial nerve at the level of the radial tunnel may lead to two different clinical entities with different clinical manifestations. These different conditions depend on which branch is involved. Although compression of the deep motor branch due to a ganglion cyst has been previously described, affection of the superficial sensory branch is considered much rarer.

OBJECTIVE: Work-related upper limb disorder (WRULD) encompasses a broad array of occupational upper limb injuries, the most common being carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). Carpal tunnel syndrome occasionally presents with concomitant ganglion cysts. The purpose of this case report is to describe the chiropractic management of a patient with bilateral WRULD complicated by ganglion cysts.
CLINICAL FEATURES: The patient was diagnosed previously with bilateral CTS and presented with common CTS symptoms that were nonresponsive to several previous courses of care. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed bil

Intraarticular ganglia of the knee are uncommon; however, these ganglion cysts may produce knee discomfort without a clear etiology. We present the cases of 10 patients with ganglion cysts arising from cruciate ligaments of the knee joint who underwent arthroscopic excision after MR examination. The MR findings, clinical features and arthroscopic findings were evaluated comparatively. Diagnoses were confirmed by means of a histological study after arthroscopic excision. The cysts were fluid-filled, with low T1-weighted signal intensity and high T2-weighted signal intensity. Except for two pati

OBJECTIVES: Ganglion cysts are the most common benign masses of the hand and wrist, frequently requiring surgical intervention due to symptoms such as pain, weakness, or aesthetic concerns. Open excision is a widely used method with varying recurrence rates reported in the literature. However, risk factors contributing to recurrence remain incompletely understood. Our study aims to evaluate the recurrence rates following open excision of wrist ganglion cysts and identify patient-related and surgical factors influencing recurrence.
METHODS: Patients who underwent wrist ganglion excision betwee
