Health differences between women and men are explained not only by biological sex but also by gender, which encompasses the roles, norms, and social relations that shape living conditions and access to healthcare. In psychiatry, a gender-sensitive approach places mental disorders within their social context, leading to a more comprehensive patient care. In research, moving beyond simple comparisons between women and men requires integrating gender-related variables to better understand the mechanisms underlying health inequalities. Within the Gender*CoLaus project, several methodological appro

OBJECTIVES: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of global disease burden and rising health-care costs. Systematic reviews (SRs) rigorously evaluate evidence on health interventions' effects and guide personal, clinical, and policy decision-making. Health equity is the absence of avoidable and unfair differences in health between groups within a population. Assessing equity in lifestyle interventions for cardiovascular health is important due to persisting health inequities in CVD burden and access to interventions. We aim to explore how health equity considerations are addressed

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Substance use and the internalization of traditional gender norms, or inequitable gender beliefs, are co-occurring risk behaviors for poorer health and well-being in young people in Southern Africa. Addressing the social and structural factors that reinforce substance use and inequitable gender beliefs, including peer influence and socioeconomic adversity, such as lack of education or employment, is necessary to support sustainable change in these behaviors. However, most existing interventions focus only on changing individual behavior. This study will therefore aim to ad

AIM: The purpose of this study was to understand the experiences of pre-licensure nursing faculty in the United States (U.S.) with LGBTQ+ inclusivity in their teaching practice.
BACKGROUND: Nursing faculty must prepare students to provide equitable care for LGBTQ+ patients and populations. There is a gap in the evidence related to nursing faculty experiences with LGBTQ+ inclusivity.
METHODS: This explanatory mixed-methods study consisted of a cross-sectional survey (phase I) and semi-structured interviews (phase II). Findings from phase I were used to design the interview guide and inform pu

Patients are increasingly turning to large language models for health information, which makes the consistency of these systems' outputs across patient groups a public health concern. Demographic bias is harder to see than fabrication because it escapes accuracy benchmarks and shows up instead in the language the models produce. Gender bias is the form most consistently reported, with effects on clinical documentation and reasoning that often compound with ethnicity, socioeconomic status and other attributes. Drawing on evidence from gender medicine, we argue that it calls for sex- and gender-

Vaccination and screening services are essential components of preventive care, yet access to these services remains unequal in many low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This narrative review examines health equity barriers affecting access to vaccination and screening services in LMICs, with screening evidence drawn predominantly from cervical cancer/HPV-related programs and selected other preventive screening contexts, and identifies strategies to improve equity in preventive care. Relevant English-language literature was identified through PubMed and Scopus and synthesized thematically

INTRODUCTION: Community health insurance (CHI) schemes are growing in importance in low-income settings, where health systems based on user fees have resulted in significant barriers to care for the poorest members of communities. They increase revenue, access and financial protection, but concerns have been expressed about the equity of such schemes and their ability to reach the poorest. Few programmes routinely evaluate equity impacts, even though this is usually a key objective. This lack of evidence is related to the difficulties in collecting reliable data on utilization and socio-econom

BACKGROUND: Many equity-deserving populations, including those facing structural health inequities, lack support to participate in clinical trials while facing barriers to participation. Two approaches—patient engagement (PE) and shared decision-making (SDM)—can help trialists better understand and address such barriers. PE can improve the relevance of trials to silenced communities while SDM can align participation decisions among socially disadvantaged groups with their values, needs, and preferences, which may help overcome health inequities. Further, Indigenous community engagement is vita

BACKGROUND: Prior research from India demonstrates a need for family planning counseling that engages both women and men, offers complete family planning method mix, and focuses on gender equity and reduces marital sexual violence (MSV) to promote modern contraceptive use. Effectiveness of the three-session (two male-only sessions and one couple session) Counseling Husbands to Achieve Reproductive Health and Marital Equity (CHARM) intervention, which used male health providers to engage and counsel husbands on gender equity and family planning (GE + FP), was demonstrated by increased pill and

OBJECTIVE: Numerous population-level surveys support willingness to use new male contraceptives (MC) among men and their female partners across a range of cultures and geographies, despite unproven efficacy and uncertain risk. Whether such willingness is related to attitudes about gender equity and/or key reproductive experiences warrants further exploration. We explore socio-behavioral factors linked to variations in willingness to use new MCs in Colombia, Ghana, Morocco, and Togo.
STUDY DESIGN: We conducted approximately two thousand surveys examining new MC attitudes with sexually active,

PurposeThis commentary examines the growing burden on family caregivers in the United States and argues for the strategic integration of community health workers (CHWs) into caregiver support models as a practical, equity-centered solution.Major FindingsFamily caregivers provide the majority of long-term care in the United States, but receive limited formal support despite escalating care demands and increasing complexity. As caregiving continues shifting into community and home settings, CHWs are uniquely positioned to address this gap through care navigation, coordination, education, and cul

As allied health professionals are front-line workers and drivers of population health, it is vital that their practice is rooted in and centered on quality care and equitable health for all. In recent years, justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) initiatives have multiplied and become more robust, particularly within allied health professions. JEDI initiatives help eliminate health disparities related to social factors like race, class, and gender, largely by creating an allied healthcare workforce that represents the culture and ideology of the patients it serves. However, growing

Youth mental ill health has increased worldwide, and non-inclusive technology design practice risks overlooking queer youth. This article calls for greater inclusivity and equity in the design of digital technologies used by queer youth to access mental health resources, support and service pathways across diverse global contexts, including internet-based tools, digital platforms and digitally enabled therapeutic interventions, such as mobile applications (apps), online services, chatbots and social media. It warns of threats such as persistent invisibility and prejudiced technology design pra

OBJECTIVES: To explore the association of men's willingness to use a novel male contraceptive with their attitudes toward gender equity.
STUDY DESIGN: We conducted an anonymous online survey examining willingness to use male contraception among reproductive-age (18-50 years) cisgender men from the United States and Canada, recruited via online forums, social media ads, and male contraceptive mailing lists from April through July of 2022. We collected sociodemographics and reproductive histories and used a 20-item Gender-Equitable Men Scale to examine men's gender role attitudes. We conducted

The COVID-19 pandemic and the upheaval it is causing may be leading to novel manifestations of the well-established mechanisms by which women have been marginalized in professional roles, robbing the field of the increased collective intelligence that exists when diverse perspectives are embraced. Unconscious bias, gendered expectations, and overt hostility minimize the contributions of women in academic medicine to the detriment of all. The current environment of heightened stress and new socially distant forms of communication may be exacerbating these well-recognized obstacles to women cont

Human rights discourse on the rights of transgender people has to a large extent focused on access to correction of legal gender and medical preconditions for this change. Jurisdictions across the world are now beginning to free legal gender recognition from medical interventions and examinations. State bodies have, however, done little to realise the rights of transgender people to adequate healthcare. A key issue is whether international law obliges states to ensure access to trans-specific healthcare. This article examines the right to healthcare appropriate to transgender persons' needs. D

A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in medical education requires addressing both explicit and implicit biases based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics and the intersectionality with other identities. Heterosexism and heteronormative attitudes contribute to health and healthcare disparities for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer or questioning, intersex, asexual individuals. Infectious diseases continue to pose a significant challenge to global health, particularly within resource-limited communities, where socioeconomic and environmental health determinants amplify their prevalence and impact. This letter to editor examines comprehensive strategies aimed at alleviating the burden of communicable diseases by addressing essential factors such as water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), housing conditions, climate change, gender equity, sociocultural influences, and poverty. Common infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, HIV/AIDS, cholera, and dengue fever
