In this article three intracranial tumors are described including signs, symptoms and radiologic findings. Two of the more common tumor types are discussed--meningioma and astrocytoma, along with one less common type, the germinoma. The germinoma with its less common features provides an interesting comparison. Each tumor is exemplified using case presentations. The neuroscience nurse, in understanding the mechanisms by which these tumors manifest themselves, will be better able to predict treatment, outcome and correlate nursing care as necessary.

Pineal germinomas can be very complex in terms of presentation, diagnosis, and management. This review attempts to simplify this complexity in an organized manner, addressing the anatomic relationships that provide the basis for the uniqueness of pineal germinoma. Ocular findings and signs and symptoms of elevated intracranial pressure are the keys to suspecting the diagnosis and obtaining the necessary imaging and cerebrospinal fluid studies. PURPOSE: To analyze neuro-ophthalmology symptoms in patients with germinomas located in pineal and suprasellar regions.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study analyzed 133 patients with germinoma who were receiving treatment in Burdenko Neuro-surgical Institute from 2008 to 2017. BACKGROUND: Germinomas are rare malignant central nervous system tumors, a type of germ cell tumor, according to the 2016 World Health Organization Classification of Brain Tumors. Most of these tumors develop along the midline, most often from the pineal gland, followed by tumors arising in the suprasellar cisterns. Suprasellar germinomas commonly manifest with diabetes insipidus, visual impairment, and hypothalamic-pituitary failure. Complex examination and treatment were given to 282 patients with testicular germ cell cancer. Diagnosis was histologically verified in all cases. Metastases at different sites were identified in 136 (48.2%).
