Hamstring strain injury (HSI) remains the most common muscle injury in high-intensity running in humans. The majority of acute HSI occur specifically within the proximal region of the long head of biceps femoris and there is a sustained interest among researchers in understanding the factors that predispose to HSI. The present critical review describes the current understanding of biceps femoris long head (BFlh) structural features that might influence strain injury risk. Inter-individual differences in muscle-tendon architecture and interactions, muscle fiber type and region-specific innervat

This retrospective study compared the results after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction using a four-strand hamstring tendon graft (4SHG) versus Ligament Advanced Reinforcement System (LARS) artificial ligament in 60 patients between January 2003 and July 2004 with a minimum four-year follow-up. The KT-1000 examination, the International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) scoring systems and Lysholm knee scoring scale were used to evaluate the clinical results. The mean side-to-side difference was 2.4 +/- 0.5 mm and 1.2 +/- 0.3 mm in the 4SHG group and LARS group, respectively (P

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to determine whether current post-operative rehabilitation protocols return the strength of the contralateral uninjured limb knee flexors and extensors after an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction to those of an uninjured control group.
METHODS: Subjects with a hamstring tendon ACL reconstruction (n=12) were compared to an active control group (n=30). Comprehensive bilateral knee flexor and extensor isovelocity strength testing was performed (five speeds, 5-95 degrees , concentric and eccentric contractions).
FINDINGS: After hamstring ten

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) using a quadriceps tendon with bone (QTB) autograft has been associated with reduced quadriceps strength at 6 months postoperatively compared to other autograft options. However, limited studies have assessed strength recovery after return to sports after ACLR, particularly involving QTB autografts.
PURPOSE: To examine factors influencing quadriceps strength recovery at 6 and 12 months after ACLR using QTB, bone-patellar tendon-bone (BPTB), and hamstring tendon (HT) autografts.
STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: Reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) by means of a patellar bone-tendon-bone (B-T-B) graft is currently one of the most frequent arthroscopic procedures. Progress in alternative techniques, particularly the use of hamstring tendon grafts and different methods for graft anchorage, was the reason for evaluation of our group of patients. The results were assessed at 18 months of follow-up.
MATERIAL: We evaluated 137 surgically treated knees in 136 patients, 20 female and 117 male, on the basis of the Lysholm score system completed with a clinical examinati

INTRODUCTION: Graft selection remains a critical determinant of outcomes in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. While hamstring tendon (HT) autografts are widely used, variable graft diameter and knee-flexor morbidity remain concerns. The peroneus longus tendon (PLT) has emerged as a promising alternative offering predictable diameter and minimal donor-site morbidity. This study compares operative, functional, and stability outcomes between HT and PLT autografts in single-bundle arthroscopic ACL reconstruction.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective comparative study was conducted

Bone-patellar tendon-bone (BPTB), two- and four-strand hamstring tendon (4SHT and 2SHT, respectively) are the most common autografts used for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. The present study compared BPTB, 2SHT, and 4SHT for ACL reconstruction in terms of joint laxity, patient reported outcome measures (PROMs), rate of failure and anterior knee pain (AKP). The time to return to sport and the peak torque between the autografts were also compared. Finally, prognostic factors leading to worse outcomes were also investigated. It was hypothesized that all grafts yield similar prop

PURPOSE: Injury to the infra-patellar branches of the saphenous nerve (IPBSN) is the main neurological complication of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction procedures. Surgical technique using quadriceps tendon (QT) autograft allows a less invasive tibial approach potentially protecting the IPBSN. The aim of this study was to compare the numbness surface of the cutaneous area supplied by the IPBSN after ACL reconstruction using either hamstring tendon (HT) or QT autografts.
METHODS: This was a retrospective comparative cohort study including 51 patients who underwent ACL reconstruc

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture is a common and career-impacting injury among football players, often requiring surgical reconstruction. The two most commonly used grafts, hamstring tendon (HT) and bone-patellar tendon-bone (BPTB), have both shown favorable outcomes, but the optimal choice remains debated. This systematic review aimed to evaluate and compare outcomes of ACL reconstruction using HT vs. BPTB autografts specifically in football players. A systematic literature search was conducted across PubMed, Cochrane Library, and MEDLINE databases from inception to January 2025. Elig

PURPOSE: To perform a meta-analysis to compare and critically evaluate the short and medium-term clinical outcomes of peroneus longus tendon autograft and hamstring tendon autograft in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. The study further evaluates the viability of the PLT autograft as a non-inferior alternative to the conventional HT autograft.
METHOD: We independently searched the following electronic databases: PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Web of Science for all relevant articles from inception to March 2025, in only the English language. Clinical outcomes included: I
