The mental health of children in homeless families and their contact with health, education and social services.

Previous research indicates that children in homeless families have a high risk of physical and mental illness. This study reports the initial stage of a longitudinal research programme to measure the prevalence of psychiatric disorders among parents and children in homeless families. A sample of parents in 113 homeless families were interviewed within 2 weeks of admission to seven homeless centres in the City of Birmingham, and compared with a sample of 29 low-income families who were not homeless. Both sets of interviews used the Child Behaviour Checklist (CBCL), the Communication Domain of

Empowering Educators to Build AI Chatbots in Health Professions Education: Tutorial on a No-Code Design Workflow.

AI is entering clinical practice faster than health professions curricula can teach it, leaving many educators eager to use AI-based teaching tools but unsure of how to build them. Generative AI chatbots-configured as simulated patients, clinical coaches, or formative assessment partners-offer scalable, interactive practice without any programming, yet most educators lack a structured method for designing and deploying them well. This tutorial provides that method: a practical, platform-agnostic workflow for building no-code AI chatbots using widely available large language model platforms. Th

Educator perspectives on stressors and health: a qualitative study of U.S. K-12 educators in February 2022.

BACKGROUND: Teachers experienced increased stressors and stress during the initial onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. While many educators returned to in-person instruction in the 2021-2022 school year, they faced changing job demands and stressors which has important implications for educator well-being. We sought to understand the stressors and health impacts faced by U.S. educators in the 2021-2022 school year, two years following the acute phase of the pandemic. METHODS: Thirty-four certified educators based in Connecticut, USA participated in four virtual focus groups in February 2022. A se

AI-assisted learning: ChatGPT for anamnesis in women's health education.

UNLABELLED: Artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT are rapidly being adopted in medical education, yet evidence regarding their impact on learners' history-taking (anamnesis) skills remains limited. This gap is particularly relevant in women's health education, where high-quality anamnesis is essential for addressing sensitive, context-dependent concerns and for ensuring the safety of two interrelated patients: mother and fetus. METHODS: This study comprised two phases. First, semi-structured virtual interviews were administered to students and faculty to assess their familiarity

Health work and education: policies, anti-politics and national challenges.

Health systems depend on workers to ensure coverage and the right to health, but face global and national challenges related to education, employment and health workforce (FTS) performance. This work aims to analyze the policies and challenges faced by the FTS in Brazil, highlighting the influence of political contexts on the management of work and education in the Unified Health System (SUS). Based on a narrative review of national studies and documents, the text proposes a periodization of the trajectory of public policies in the area, categorized into: moment of antipolitics (1990-2002), mo

[The sexual health education program in psychiatry, feedback from experience].

People with psychiatric disorders experience more sexual difficulties than the general population, due in part to their pathology, psychotropic drugs and more frequent risk-taking behavior. Yet sexual health remains a taboo subject in psychiatry. The sexual health education program in psychiatry addresses this issue in six sessions in a comprehensive and preventive way, including romantic relationships and risk reduction. This project is helping to transform care practices by integrating sexual health into psychiatry.

Carceral Health in Medical Education: Current Interventions and Future Directions.

Incarcerated individuals in the United States face poor health care outcomes in part due to insufficient provider training in carceral care. Emerging initiatives, including lectures, clinical rotations, and service-learning address this gap. This scoping review evaluates the scope and effectiveness of such interventions to produce an evidence-based guide for future improvements in medical education and health care for incarcerated populations. We searched PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, and Web of Science for peer-reviewed articles regarding initiatives involving both undergraduate medical education a

BACKGROUND: Postpartum depression is a common maternal mental health condition. Existing treatments, such as cognitive behavioral therapy and pharmacological interventions, often face challenges related to cost, accessibility, and acceptability, particularly among breastfeeding mothers. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary health education (iHealth) in reducing postpartum depression and anxiety while enhancing the quality of life among primiparous women. METHODS: This retrospective study, conducted on 192 puerperal women who delivered between Januar

Advancing Cultural Competency in Allied Health Education: A Narrative Review.

As the U.S. population becomes increasingly diverse, allied health care providers must be equipped to deliver culturally competent and equitable care. While nursing education has long emphasized cultural competence, its integration into allied health disciplines varies. This narrative review synthesizes evidence from 2015 to 2025, examining three main approaches to cultural competence training in allied health education: cultural immersion, didactic coursework, and workshops or simulations. The findings suggest that no single strategy is sufficient. Cultural immersion promotes self-awareness a

The Intergenerational Transmission of Health Disadvantage: Can Education Disrupt It?

In low-income countries, intergenerational processes can culminate in the replication of extreme forms of health disadvantage between mothers and adult daughters, including experiencing a young child's death. The preventable nature of most child deaths raises questions of whether social resources can protect women from enduring this adversity like their mothers. This study examined whether education-widely touted as a vehicle for social mobility in resource-poor countries-disrupts the intergenerational cycle of maternal bereavement. We estimated multilevel discrete-time survival models of wome

Undergraduate Education in Computational Pathology Through Global Health Inspired Projects.

Recent technological advancements are revolutionizing the field of pathology as the practice adopts digital workflows and computational tools to augment the analysis of tissue and enhance its role in patient care. These advancements are poised to make a particularly significant impact in low-income and middle-income countries, which are disproportionately affected by worsening pathology service shortages and rising cancer rates. Courses targeted towards undergraduate students interested in this emergent field of computational pathology (CPATH) are required to prepare the next generation of inn
