Provision of Health Information to Australians With Polymyalgia Rheumatica: Patient Recall and Perceived Opportunities for Improvement.

BACKGROUND: Most patients with polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) are managed in primary care. Provision of health information to patients on management strategies and potential side effects is important given the complexity of this condition. This study aimed to describe the recall of information of people with PMR in receiving information from their treating doctor and their perceived need for further information. METHODS: Data were taken from a survey between September and November 2024 characterising the presentation and experiences of Australians with PMR collected from an online patient suppo

Use of health information from social media and health self-efficacy: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Social media has become a common source for health information, yet the relationship between users' experiences with this form of digital health information and health self-efficacy remains poorly understood. This study investigates how the reported reliance on and perceived evaluative difficulty of social-media-based health information are associated with self-efficacy levels in a misinformation-prone environment. METHODS: This cross-sectional study analyzed data from the 2022 Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS 6), a nationally representative sample of U. S. adults

Quality of Online Information for Management of Leg Pain in Children and Adolescents With Hypermobility-Associated Conditions.

AIM: Online health information seeking continues to gain popularity. Quality assessment of online information is particularly important for patient populations with low satisfaction and disengagement from health professionals and services, such as hypermobility-associated conditions. We aimed to assess the quality of online health information, for management of lower limb pain in children with hypermobility-associated conditions, available through search engines and corresponding AI-generated overviews. METHODS: Webpages were collated from Google searches and the corresponding overviews prese

Integrated morbidity management for lymphatic filariasis and podoconiosis, Ethiopia.

PROBLEM: Lymphatic filariasis and podoconiosis are the major causes of tropical lymphoedema in Ethiopia. The diseases require a similar provision of care, but until recently the Ethiopian health system did not integrate the morbidity management. APPROACH: To establish health-care services for integrated lymphoedema morbidity management, the health ministry and partners used existing governmental structures. Integrated disease mapping was done in 659 out of the 817 districts, to identify endemic districts. To inform resource allocation, trained health extension workers carried out integrated d

Sharp thinking.

Nurses are the healthcare professionals most at risk from neeldestick and sharps injuries, according to the latest figures from the RCN's EPINet project. During 2004, 1,990 injuries were reported from the 20 self-selecting participating sites. Nurses sustained 43 per cent of these injuries. Disposable syringes and needles were the most common equipment to cause injury. Although discouraged, 4 per cent of injuries occurred during recapping of needles. Just under a third of injuries were sustained by staff other than the original user of the sharp.

Tailored Personas of Online Health Information-Seeking Behaviors Among Men With Prostate Cancer Receiving Androgen Deprivation Therapy: Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Patients with prostate cancer undergoing androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) must manage complex treatment side effects over extended periods outside the hospital, making online health information-seeking a key approach to self-management. However, individual differences in motivation, digital literacy, and psychosocial context significantly influence how patients seek and use online health information. The patient persona approach, which synthesizes individuals with similar behavioral patterns and needs into representative profiles, offers a practical method for capturing this hete

The Medical Device Unique Device Identifier as the Single Source of Truth in Healthcare Enterprises - Roadmap for Implementation of the Clinically Integrated Supply Chain.

Documentation and tracking of supplies, equipment and medical devices is central to operational, financial, and clinical aspects of safe, efficient, and effective patient care. The labeling of medical devices with a unique device identifier (UDI) creates the opportunity to tightly integrate device information across health information systems by using the UDI as the index "source of truth". Across 3 hospitals of the Duke University Health System, we executed a comprehensive implementation of UDI-based device and supply information management in our cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology

Bronchiectasis Information and Education: a randomised, controlled feasibility trial.

BACKGROUND: There has been comparatively little patient information about bronchiectasis, a chronic lung disease with rising prevalence. Patients want more information, which could improve their understanding and self-management. A novel information resource meeting identified needs has been co-developed in prior work. We sought to establish the feasibility of conducting a multi-centre randomised controlled trial to determine effect of the information resource on understanding, self-management and health outcomes. METHODS/DESIGN: We conducted an unblinded, single-centre, randomised controlled

The objective of this study is to identify the information needs of women diagnosed with a pathogenic variant in BRCA1 or BRCA 2 regarding cancer risk management and decision-making. METHODS: This is a descriptive qualitative study. Participants were recruited using purposive sampling and inclu
