Influenza and COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage Among Health Care Personnel - United States, 2024-25 Respiratory Virus Season.

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommends that all health care personnel (HCP) receive an annual influenza vaccination to reduce the risk for influenza and influenza-related morbidity and mortality among themselves and their patients. For the 2024-25 respiratory virus season, ACIP also recommended that all HCP be vaccinated against COVID-19. During March 26-April 17, 2025, CDC conducted a nonprobability opt-in internet panel survey of 2,650 U.S. HCP to estimate influenza and COVID-19 vaccination coverage during the 2024-25 respiratory virus season. Overall, 76.3% of HC

Mental health symptoms in Public Safety Personnel: Examining the effects of adverse childhood experiences and moral injury.

BACKGROUND: Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) increase risk for negative mental health outcomes in adulthood; however, the mechanisms through which ACEs exert their influence on adult mental health are poorly understood. This is particularly true for Public Safety Personnel (PSP; e.g., police, firefighters, paramedics, etc.), a group with unique vulnerability to negative psychiatric sequalae given their chronic exposure to potentially traumatic, work-related events. OBJECTIVES: To examine the role of moral injury (MI) and emotion regulation in the relation between ACEs and adult mental hea

Occupational exposure to trichloramine and trihalomethanes: adverse health effects among personnel in habilitation and rehabilitation swimming pools.

Personnel in swimming pool facilities typically experience ocular, nasal, and respiratory symptoms due to water chlorination and consequent exposure to disinfection by-products in the air. The aim of the study was to investigate exposure to trichloramine and trihalomethanes (chloroform, bromodichloromethane, dibromochloromethane, and bromoform) from the perspective of adverse health effects on the personnel at Swedish habilitation and rehabilitation swimming pools. The study included 10 habilitation and rehabilitation swimming pool facilities in nine Swedish cities. The study population compri

Training Australian military health care personnel in the primary care of maxillofacial wounds from improvised explosive devices.

Severe facial wounds frequently result from improvised explosive devices (IEDs) as the face is still vulnerable despite advances in personal protection of soldiers. In contrast to the poor outcomes with civilian maxillofacial trauma management methods initially employed by the US Army for maxillofacial wounds from IEDs, advances in wound management methods for such injuries by the US Army have resulted in significant improvements in appearance and function. This article describes the features of a short course in the primary management of combat related maxillofacial wounds for deployed health

Evaluation of a geriatric mental health training program for nursing personnel in rural long-term care facilities.

Although mental illness among elderly living in nursing homes is a substantial and growing concern, the behavioral problems associated with mental illness or threats to mental health are not well understood, tolerated, or effectively managed by nursing home staff. As a result, resident care and quality of life, and staff morale often suffer. The need for geriatric mental health training in long-term care settings has become increasingly apparent. Psychiatric/mental health nurses are in an advantageous position to address this current need and future challenge through the development, implement

Qualitative evaluation of a pilot mental health program for public safety personnel with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Public Safety Personnel (PSP) such as police officers, firefighters, and paramedics are at an increased risk of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to frequent exposure to potentially psychologically traumatic events. Return-to-work trajectories can be challenging, as treatment programs are often not tailored to PSP, leading to long-term disability. To better support PSP, the work disability insurance authority in Ontario, Canada commissioned a mental health treatment program for PSP who receive benefits for a diagnosis of PTSD. Staff in this program received specialized training by a cr

A cross-sectional study exploring mental health literacy among non-athlete personnel in elite-level road cycling.

BACKGROUND: Elite-level athletes, including professional road cyclists, may be vulnerable to psychiatric disorders, yet help-seeking and care pathways are often impeded by stigma and budgetary constraints. Although sports psychiatry is a growing subdiscipline, mental health initiatives in elite-level road cycling remain limited, possibly leaving coaches and non-athlete personnel ill-equipped to support affected athletes and staff. Consequently, understanding mental health literacy levels among these stakeholders could help identify knowledge gaps and shape future interventions. METHODS: This

Associations between health-related behaviors and self-reported cognitive symptoms in U.S. military personnel injured on deployment.

Health behaviors may be core contributors to cognition and mental health following mild traumatic brain injury (TBI). The aims of the present study examined: (1) whether health behaviors including sleep duration, alcohol use, and physical activity differed in injured military personnel with and without deployment-related mild TBI history and (2) the relative contributions of health behaviors and deployment-related mild TBI history to self-reported cognitive, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and depressive symptoms. Participants included 3076 military personnel injured on deployment partic

Help-Seeking Behaviors Among Active-Duty Military Personnel: Utilization of Chaplains and Other Mental Health Service Providers.

Military chaplains not only conduct religious services, but also provide counseling and spiritual support to military service members, operating as liaisons between soldiers and mental health professionals. In this study, active-duty soldiers (N = 889) reported help-seeking behaviors and mental health. Using logistic regressions, we describe the issues for which soldiers reported seeking help, then outline the characteristics of those who are most likely to seek help from a chaplain. Of the soldiers who sought help from a chaplain within the previous year, 29.9% reported high levels of combat

Effectiveness of Leader Village Health Volunteers Training Program on Preventing Cholangiocarcinoma in Thailand: Advantages for High-Risk Area with Limited Public Health Personnel.

Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) still affects the health of rural people in northeast Thailand. Most people had a high level of overall risk according to CCA risk assessment in 2014. The question is how to make prevention of CCA as cost-effective as possible. The most appropriate answer is that someone should become a health leader to transfer knowledge to the public. This is the reason for developing the training program for village health volunteers (VHVs)-who play the role of change agents-to transfer knowledge to villagers. As for the evaluation of success, it is not evaluated if VHVs have increa
