BACKGROUND: The use of a prosthesis is critical to regain the ability to walk in lower limb amputees but the relationship between the use of a prosthesis and chronic pain syndromes (PLS, PLP, RLP), common in amputees patients, is still poorly understood.

A 71-year-old multi-morbid, paraplegic male with five pressure ulcers and a left-sided open trochanter fracture with chronic osteomyelitis was admitted to hospital. The therapeutic outcome of congenital vascular malformations generally parallels the complexity of the lesion. The less extensive malformations that are prone to regression may be observed. Larger lesions that produce facial asymmetry or have diffuse extremity involvement require a more aggressive approach. Even with the limitations of current treatment methods these extensive malformations can usually be controlled thus affording the patient a better life.
