Seventy patients with hydatid disease were referred to our institution during the last ten years. In all cases the clinical and radiological findings were confirmed by pathology. INTRODUCTION: Pleural involvement is an uncommon manifestation of sarcoidosis. It may manifest as pleural effusion, pneumothorax, pleural thickening and nodules, hydropneumothorax, trapped lung, hemothorax, or chylothorax. The incidence of pleural effusion with sarcoidosis ranges from 0% to 5% but has been reported to be as high as 7.5%. Pleural effusions complicate sarcoidosis in < 3% of patients.

Small-bore Silastic feeding tubes are being used with increasing frequency for short- and long-term enteral hyperalimentation. We present three cases where these flexible tubes were passed into the tracheobronchial tree and then out into the pleural space. The result in each case was a pneumothorax or hydropneumothorax. Pulmonary involvement is the most frequent extra-articular manifestation of rheumatoid arthritis. The occurrence of a chronic hydro-pneumo-thorax associated with pulmonary nodules is rare. Cavitation of the most superficial nodules and their rupture into the pleural cavity are most likely involved in this complication. The presence of broncho-pleural fistulae may be responsible for the persistence of the phenomenon in our patient.
