The histologic study on six horses of the ileo-caecal and caeco-colic junctions confirms their sphincteral structure. It appears that the activity of the muscular fibres, identified in the ileo-caecal and caeco-colic plica, modulates the curvature of the junctions and thus, blocks, as sphincters, the reflux of contents from the caecum into the ileum and from the colon into the caecum. But on the other hand, the pelvic flexure does not possess any microscopic organization to stop the reflux of contents from the dorsal colon into the ventral colon.

Intussusception is rarely reported in adult patients with acute leukemia. We report a case of intussusception in a 29-year-old woman with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). She developed right lower quadrant pain, fever, and vomiting on day 16 of induction chemotherapy. Physical examination showed tenderness and guarding at the right lower quadrant of the abdomen. Gallstone ileus is a rare complication of cholelithiasis, representing 1% of bowel obstructions. The usual site of obstruction is the ileocecal valve, though other sites have been reported. INTRODUCTION: Colonic lipomas are rare subepithelial benign tumors affecting mainly middle-aged women. They are usually asymptomatic and, hence, are discovered incidentally on autopsy, surgery, or colonoscopy. There is a wide range of presentations like abdominal pain, bleeding per rectum, intussusception, etc. The latter picture constitutes the usual presentation of an ileocecal lipoma. In 14 human autopsy specimens, obtained within two hours of death, the contribution of external ligamentous attachments to competence against reflux at the ileocecal junction (ICJ) was evaluated.
