BACKGROUND: Renal transplantation is the treatment of choice for patients with end-stage renal disease. The renal transplant recipients are susceptible to a variety of gastrointestinal (GI) complications such as infections, ulcer disease, and malignancies.
OBJECTIVES: We aimed to determine the frequency of pathological lesions in GI endoscopic biopsies in recipients of live related renal transplantation in our setting.
METHODS: This retrospective survey was carried out at Histopathology Department of Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation, Karachi, from December 2010 to January 2011.

In this retrospective study, 470 patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) who had been followed in the Hacettepe University Medical Oncology Department between 1973 and 1990, were evaluated to establish their epidemiologic, clinical and therapeutic characteristics. Out of 470 patients, 302 (62.2%) were male and 168 (37.8%) were female. The ages ranged from 16 to 85, with a median of 44 years. Constitutional symptoms were present in 46.4% of the patients. Endoscopic examination showed erosions and ulcerations on duodenal mucosa. The effects of 3 experimental diets that varied only in the source of dietary protein (ie, poultry, cereal, red meat) were compared in Basenjis (n = 8) with immunoproliferative enteropathy and healthy Beagles (n = 8). Significant differences in fecal character, serum IgA concentration, and intestinal digestive and absorptive function were not induced by the different sources of dietary protein. The results of this study do not support a causal role for dietary protein source in the pathogenesis of immunoproliferative enteropathy of Basenjis.
