ImpACT+, a coping intervention to improve clinical outcomes for women living with HIV and sexual trauma in South Africa: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Addressing sexual trauma in the context of HIV care is essential to improve clinical outcomes and mental health among women in South Africa. Women living with HIV (WLH) report disproportionately high levels of sexual trauma and have higher rates of posttraumatic stress disorder. Adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) may be difficult for traumatized women, as sexual trauma compounds the stress associated with managing HIV and is often comorbid with other mental health disorders, further compromising care engagement and adherence. ART initiation represents a unique window of oppo

Developing a Novel Mobile App to Support HIV Testing and Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Uptake Among Men Who Have Sex With Men: Formative and Technical Pilot Study.

BACKGROUND: Young sexual minority men (YSMM) are disproportionately impacted by HIV in the United States. HIV or sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing rates and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) uptake are low in this priority population. Novel strategies are needed to increase access to HIV and STI prevention services among YSMM. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to describe the development and assess the feasibility and acceptability of LYNX, a mobile app to increase HIV testing and PrEP uptake among YSMM. METHODS: Informed by the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills model, the LYNX app

Development and validation of a rapid health literacy assessment tool for Chinese primary and secondary school students.

Health literacy (HL) plays a vital role in shaping health behaviors and long-term well-being. Existing HL assessment tools for children and adolescents remain fragmented, with limited theoretical foundations, limited age adaptability, and insufficient psychometric validation. A scientifically developed, developmentally appropriate, and psychometrically strong measurement tool specifically designed for younger populations can support HL monitoring, health promotion, and educational evaluation. This study conceptualized HL for children and adolescents and developed the Chinese Rapid Health Liter

A Web-Based Physical Activity Portal for Individuals Living With a Spinal Cord Injury: Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: The population with a spinal cord injury (SCI) largely remains inactive following discharge from rehabilitation despite evidence on the benefits of physical activity. These individuals need to develop skills to self-manage their condition in order to prevent secondary comorbidities and rehospitalization. A Web-based physical activity portal can address this need. Few Web-based interventions incorporate theoretical frameworks, behavior change techniques, and modes of delivery into their design. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to identify the preferred features of a Web-based self-manag

Theory-Based Social Media Intervention for Nonmedical Use of Prescription Opioids in Young Adults: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: The nonmedical use of prescription opioids (NMUPO) in young adults in the United States is concerning and is robustly influenced by many psychosocial factors. Given the advantages of flexibility, wide coverage, and real-time responses and assessment, using social media appears to be a promising and innovative approach to delivering psychosocial intervention to young adults. However, few theory-based social media interventions are available for NMUPO targeting this at-risk population. OBJECTIVE: Guided by the information-motivation-behavioral skills model, the proposed research aim

Altered attentional processing in male and female rats in a prenatal valproic acid exposure model of autism spectrum disorder.

UNLABELLED: Attention is foundational to efficient perception and optimal goal driven behavior. Intact attentional processing is crucial for the development of social and communication skills. Deficits in attention are therefore likely contributors to the core pathophysiology of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Clinical evidence in ASD is suggestive of impairments in attention and its control, but the underlying mechanisms remain elusive. We examined sustained, spatially divided attention in a prenatal valproic acid (VPA) model of ASD using the 5-choice serial reaction time task (5-CSRTT). As c

Treatment Adherence and Secondary Prevention of Ischemic Stroke Among Discharged Patients Using Mobile Phone- and WeChat-Based Improvement Services: Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Real-world studies have indicated that adherence is important for guaranteeing medication effectiveness. Few studies have tested the feasibility and efficacy of WeChat-based improvement services, via mobile phone, in secondary prevention-specific follow-up among discharged stroke patients. OBJECTIVE: We evaluated a quadruple-domain, WeChat-based service for ischemic stroke secondary prevention designed to improve treatment adherence of discharged patients. This service focuses on sending reminders for drug use, blood pressure recording, and glucose recording; it also records medic

Implementing palliative reasoning in multiprofessional palliative care: A participatory action research in the Netherlands.

CONTEXT: In the Netherlands, two interventions exist to support healthcare professionals in assessing palliative care needs and providing multidimensional generalist palliative care. Separate use hindered communication, interprofessional collaboration, and multidimensional care. To address this, the two existing interventions were integrated into a single multiprofessional intervention, Palliative Reasoning. The Palliative Reasoning Working Method (PRWM) was developed to support its implementation in daily practice. OBJECTIVES: To iteratively adapt and implement the PRWM in primary care, hosp

Development of a Web-Based Experiential Learning Intervention for the Public to Reduce Cancer Stigma: Tutorial on the Application of Intervention Mapping.

BACKGROUND: Stigma may negatively impact individuals throughout the continuum of cancer care and survivorship. Multitheory and multilevel intervention programs are necessary to reduce stigma but remain globally limited. OBJECTIVE: This tutorial aims to illustrate the development of a web-based experiential learning intervention, "Friend Supporter," designed for the public, which simulates scenarios to foster empathy and helping intentions. We applied the intervention mapping (IM) approach, which is rooted in the socioecological model, using the first four steps. METHODS: In step 1, key issue

The effects of health education and exercise style changes on the maturation of autologous arteriovenous fistula in hemodialysis patients: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Upper limb exercise has long been considered to be the main means to promote autogenous arteriovenous fistula (AVF) maturation, but in practice exercise intensity and compliance are both typically lacking. Several randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have demonstrated the good effects of functional resistance or pressure exercise in patients with AVF. However, many patients' have difficulty complying with upper limb exercise programs without systematic health education. Therefore, we argue that resistance and pressure exercise supported by health education is actually the most benef

Empowering Older Adults Through Values-Informed Solutions for Technology Adoption: Protocol for a Feasibility and Acceptability Randomized Controlled Pilot Trial.

BACKGROUND: Although technology usage is steadily increasing among older adults, adoption and confidence greatly lag behind their younger counterparts. Sociocultural and health disparities intersect with aging to present distinct structural and psychosocial barriers to the adoption of newer technologies. Digital health literacy interventions can improve task-specific skills, technological self-efficacy, and use frequency, but most do not systematically incorporate older adults' values and goals, which are key drivers of sustained behavior change. OBJECTIVE: The proposed study aims to develop

A Multicomponent Intervention to Train and Support Family Medicine Providers to Promote Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for Adolescent Girls and Young Women in the Deep South: Protocol for the PrEP-Pro Study.

BACKGROUND: Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a highly effective biomedical prevention intervention and a major strategy for reducing the HIV burden in the United States. However, PrEP provision and uptake remain lower than estimated needs, and in ways that may exacerbate HIV disparities among Black adolescent girls and young women in the southern United States. Data suggest that gaps in provider knowledge of HIV epidemiology and PrEP and skills assessing sexual health practices are important barriers to provision and uptake, with limited evidence-based interventions to address these gaps. Out-of-school settings as a developmental context for children and youth.

Since the 1990s, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of the out-of-school context for children and adolescents. Fueled in part by family demographics that include substantial numbers of employed mothers and single mothers, in part by concerns about poor academic performance and problem behaviors, and in part by intensified efforts to find ways to promote positive youth development, researchers and practitioners have focused their attention on two particular out-of-school settings: after-school programs and structured activities. The research findings pertaining to full-time
