How Do Portuguese Care Providers Address Disability and LGBT Identity in Their Work?

Despite growing interest in the sexuality and gender identity of people with disabilities (PWD), this topic remains underexplored in both research and institutional policies, owing to prevailing views that ignore PWD sexual life. This contributes to the invisibility of individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans (LGBT) and to inadequate attention to the specific needs of LGBT people with disabilities (LGBT PWD). Background/Objectives: Given the lack of Portuguese studies that examine the intersection of LGBT and disability identities, this study aimed to understand profession

Utilization of Artificial Intelligence as Simulated Patients to Enhance Student Interviewing Skills in the Pharmacy Curriculum Across Multiple Programs.

BACKGROUND: Traditional methods to practice patient interviewing skills for student pharmacists include the use of actors and role-playing. While effective, they can be difficult to manage with large class sizes, cost, and time to train. Artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs) are readily accessible to offer students a scalable solution to practice collecting information from a controlled, dynamic simulated patient (SP). METHODS: Five programs collaborated to create multiple educational activities that utilized AI as an SP for student pharmacists to practice their patien

Physician beliefs and behaviors related to glaucoma treatment adherence: the Glaucoma Adherence and Persistency Study.

PURPOSE: Patient adherence with topical glaucoma therapy is recognized as suboptimal. Though some studies have associated physician/patient interaction with adherence, little systematic research has explored the ophthalmologist's perspective of this interaction. Telephone interviews with physicians treating glaucoma were conducted to ascertain the extent to which multivariate analysis of physician demographics, beliefs, and behaviors could reveal differences potentially relevant to future adherence with topical glaucoma therapy for primary open-angle glaucoma, in conjunction with other phases

Going beyond: an exploration of residents' experiences in recovery and homelessness supported housing provision in the United Kingdom.

Appropriate support is essential for the recovery of individuals with complex needs. In the United Kingdom, individuals with multiple complex needs such as those experiencing homelessness or recovering from substance use reside in supported housing. This type of housing is provided by a range of housing associations, local authorities, and charities. Often, a proportion of these individuals require tailored support to address their overlapping needs relating to health and daily living. However, there is a paucity of United Kingdom research on this topic. The aim of this present study is to exp

Perceptions of causes and treatment of mental illness among traditional health practitioners in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Mental disorders are among the most poorly treated illnesses in sub-Saharan Africa. It is estimated that 70%-80% of South Africans consult traditional health practitioners for the treatment of psychological ailments. As traditional health practitioners maintain a strong role in assessing and treating patients with mental illness in this context, this study contributes to the burgeoning research literature on the topic. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with 18 traditional health practitioners in Johannesburg, South Africa, between January and May 2022. Interviews were transcri

Preventing gambling-related harm among adolescents (PRoGRAM-A): an embedded multi-modal process evaluation in a pilot cluster random control trial.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Young people’s engagement in gambling can be linked to gambling-related harm. This can cause stress, anxiety, relationship issues, debt, and lost opportunities. There is a lack of independently funded, and evidence-based school-based interventions that seek to prevent and reduce the harms associated with gambling. PRoGRAM-A is one of the first independently research funded interventions to prevent gambling related harm in adolescents. This paper presents findings from an embedded process evaluation of the pilot cluster randomised control trial of PRoGRAM-A, with a specific

OBJECTIVE: We sought to explore patient and parental views on treatment targets, outcome measures and study designs being considered for a future JSLE treat-to-target (T2T) study. METHODS: We conducted topic-guided, semistructured interviews with JSLE patients and parents and analysed the audio recorded interviews using thematic approaches.
