BACKGROUND: Feeding jejunostomy (FJ) is a key procedure to ensure proper nutrition in complex gastrointestinal surgeries and upper gastrointestinal (GI) obstruction. Over time, many techniques have been employed. In our unit, the preferred technique was Stamm's. Following an observed increase in jejunostomy-related complications, a Witzel-type approach was adopted. The aim of this article is to compare jejunostomy-related complications between both techniques.
METHODS: This retrospective study includes all laparoscopic feeding jejunostomies performed from January 2023 until October 2025. Pati

Background: Malnutrition is associated with poorer clinical outcomes in esophagogastric cancers (EGCs). Enteral nutrition via feeding jejunostomy (FJ) is feasible and effective, although standardized criteria for its placement during staging laparoscopy (SL) are lacking. Here, we describe a case series with the aim of generate preliminary evidence in highlighting unmet needs in this setting. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed medical records of EGC patients who underwent FJ placement during SL at the Fondazione IRCCS Policlinico S. Matteo from January 2022 to December 2023. Dumping syndrome occurs when food moves to the small bowel faster than usual. Patients can report a variety of symptoms such as abdominal cramps, weakness, flushing, shakiness, and decreased consciousness. Dumping syndrome can be divided into early and late based on the onset of the symptoms after the ingestion of a meal. In the literature, cases of dumping syndrome have been reported, but rarely after jejunostomy tube insertion. We report a case of an 86-year-old female suffering from late dumping syndrome after jejunostomy tube placement. An 86-year-old Saudi female presented with decreased

BACKGROUND: Background: Perioperative nutrition support has been shown to impact on outcomes for patients with gastrointestinal cancer. Postoperative benefits of feeding tubes must be weighed against morbidity related to placement and use. A simplified jejunostomy tube technique was evaluated for outcomes.
METHODS: A 16-Fr rubber tube is secured at the jejunal entry site without Witzel tunnel, followed by a continuous, circumferential and alternating suture between jejunal wall and parietal peritoneum. Prospectively collected data were analyzed.
RESULTS: The technique was performed in 343 of

The aim of the present study was to describe success rates, complications, and outcome in patients who underwent percutaneous endoscopic jejunostomy (PEJ) because of gastroparesis due to previous lung transplantation. Between October 2008 and May 2011, 14 attempts at PEJ placement were made in 12 patients in our center. Of the 14 attempts, 11 were successful, giving a technical success rate of 78.6 %. Median duration of followup was8.5 months (2–15 months). No immediate complications were reported. Two severe complications occurred during follow up (one volvulus and one jejunocolic fistula). J

Epithelized enterocutaneous fistulas will form if feeding jejunostomy tubes are kept for a lengthy period. Such fistulas may not close spontaneously, and thus surgical closure will be necessary. An intraperitoneal surgical approach is most commonly used but is often difficult and a major undertaking. A novel, simple, and safe technique to close such enterocutaneous fistulas extraperitoneally under local anesthesia is devised.

In a patient presenting with a roentgenographic retrocardiac density, left pleural effusion and distal oesophageal displacement, echocardiography confirmed presence of a pseudocyst in the posterior mediastinum. Pancreatic origin was suspected. Left thoracolaparotomy revealed the large (900 ml), exclusively mediastinal pseudocyst, surrounding the aorta and adherent to the diaphragm, with high amylase content. Decompression was achieved with a retrocolic and gastric Roux-en-Y loop by transdiaphragmatic cystojejunostomy.

BACKGROUND: Feeding jejunostomy (FJ) provides critical enteral access for patients undergoing treatment for upper gastrointestinal (GI) pathology. This study aimed to evaluate the safety, complication profile, and operative context of laparoscopic versus open FJ using a standardised laparoscopic technique.
METHODS: A retrospective cohort study included 576 patients who underwent FJ between March 2018 and August 2024 (302 laparoscopic, 274 open). Patient demographics, operative context, and postoperative complications were analysed. Outcomes are reported as frequencies with relative effect est

BACKGROUND: Anastomotic leak (AL) complicates 8%-29% of esophageal atresia (EA) repairs, precluding safe trans-anastomotic enteral feeding. Parenteral nutrition (PN) carries additional risks in neonates. Feeding jejunostomy (FJ) provides an alternative enteral route that bypasses the anastomosis, but data remain limited. This study describes the feasibility and safety outcomes of FJ in this clinical setting.
METHODS: Single-center retrospective cohort study (2018-2023) of neonates undergoing EA/tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) repair or transferred to this hospital for AL after EA repair.

INTRODUCTION: Pancreatico-duodenectomy (PD) remains one of the most complex abdominal surgeries, and pancreatico-jejunostomy (PJ) fistula is its most critical postoperative complication. In efforts to reduce the incidence of postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF), several PJ techniques and adjuncts, including stents, have been recommended. This article presents data from an international survey regarding PJ methods, the use of pancreatic stents, and their correlation with POPF rates from surgical centers worldwide.
METHODS: A nine-item online questionnaire was sent globally through social ne

UNLABELLED: Feeding jejunostomy (FJ) is done as a part of significant upper gastrointestinal surgical procedures for patients who cannot tolerate enteral feeds. This procedure is related to different mechanical, infective, and metabolic inconveniences. However, closed-bowel loop obstruction following FJ is rare. We report an unusual complication of closed-bowel loop obstruction in the postoperative period of FJ done for a locally advanced carcinoma of gastroesophageal (GE) junction for enteral access in a 67-year-old male patient. This patient required an emergency laparotomy, to forestall exa

BACKGROUND: Due to an aging society, patients with gastric cancer are also getting older. Although total gastrectomy should be avoided for elderly patients, laparoscopic subtotal gastrectomy(LSTG)is a technically demanding procedure. Here, we present a safe procedure of gastro-jejunostomy using the overlap method.
METHODS: After transection of the stomach using gastroscopy, an entry hole was created at the center of the staple line of the remnant stomach. The jejunum was anastomosed to the dorsal wall of the gastric remnant with a linear stapler, and the entry hole was closed by hand-sewn sut

OBJECTIVE: To compare Roux-en-Y hepatico-jejunostomy with complete resection of the cyst or incomplete resection with 1-cm remnant proximal cyst wall in treating adult type I choledochal cyst (CC).
METHODS: The medical records of 267 adult patients with type I CC from January 1998 to December 2015 were reviewed retrospectively. Among them, 171 underwent Roux-en-Y hepatico-jejunostomy with complete resection (PBD 0-cm group) and 96 underwent Roux-en-Y hepatico-jejunostomy with 1-cm proximal cyst wall left (PBD 1-cm group). The short- and long-term post-operative complications were compared bet

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Certain patients who undergo proximal jejunum resection are unable to undergo primary anastomosis and require exteriorization of the proximal jejunum. These patients usually have major problems with short bowel due to the high output of the stoma. The output of a proximal jejunostomy contains abundant amounts of enzymes and electrolytes. Therefore, it is a feasible approach to re-infuse jejunostomy output to regain homeostasis. To evaluate the effects of proximal jejunostomy output reinfusion into the distal small bowel for patients with short bowel syndrome, and to

BACKGROUND: Leak following laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is one of the most serious and devastating complications. Endoscopic stents can treat most early LSG leaks, but is not as effective for chronic LSG leaks/fistulae. The surgical options to treat a chronic leak/fistula after LSG are laparoscopic Roux en Y esophago-jejunostomy (LRYEJ) or laparoscopic Roux en Y fistulo-jejunostomy.
METHODS: We reviewed our prospective database for all patients with leak after LSG treated with LRYEJ. We have described our algorithm for managing LSG previously. We prefer to optimize the nutritional st

This study was conducted to explore the feasibility of partial pancreatic head resection and Roux-en-Y pancreatic jejunostomy for the treatment of benign tumors of the pancreatic head (BTPH). From November 2006 to February 2009, four patients (three female and one male) with a mean age of 34.3 years (range: 21-48 years) underwent partial pancreatic head resection and Roux-en-Y pancreatic jejunostomy for the treatment of BTPH (diameters of 3.2-4.5 cm) using small incisions (5.1-7.2 cm). Preoperative symptoms include one case of repeated upper abdominal pain, one case of drowsiness and two cases

A 54-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with severe nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. He had had laparoscopy-assisted total gastrectomy with Roux-en-Y reconstruction and tube jejunostomy for gastric cancer 2 years earlier. Abdominal CT revealed that the duodenum and upper jejunum were markedly dilated and that the dilated jejunum had collapsed at the jejunostomy site. Emergency laparoscopic surgery with three ports was performed for jejunostomy-related ileus. Abdominal adhesion was very small, and the Roux-en-Y limb was rotated counterclockwise at the jejunostomy site. A magnified la

BACKGROUND: Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG), direct percutaneous endoscopic jejunostomy, and laparoscopic feeding tube insertion are established techniques for placing a feeding tube. However, these techniques may be difficult or contraindicated after previous gastric or upper abdominal surgery.
METHODS: A total of 10 patients underwent minimally invasive jejunostomy tube insertion via endoscopic identification of the jejunum. The indications for the procedure were dysphagia, poor nutritional status, prolonged intensive care unit (ICU) admission, and gastroparesis. Eight of the pati
