Knee joint dislocations-Current epidemiology and treatment in Germany.

PURPOSE: Knee joint dislocations, though rare, present significant challenges due to potential complications like vascular and nerve damage, and are known to be often linked to sports injuries, accidents and obesity. This study aims to analyse the epidemiology, incidence and treatment approaches for knee dislocations in Germany from 2019 to 2022. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study utilized data from the German Institute for the Hospital Remuneration System to examine knee dislocation cases across German medical institutions. Patient data coded under International Statistical Classificat

Demographic analysis of knee dislocation: A rare mechanism of injury.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to present to the literature a rare injury mechanism that causes knee dislocation (KD) and describe its characteristics. METHODS: A retrospective review of patients with KD who were treated between January 2014 and December 2019 at our hospital was performed. Patients with KD due to rotavator machine injury were included in Group 1 and all patients with KD due to other etiological reasons were included in Group 2. Patients' age, gender, side, injury mechanism, time to surgery, length of stay (LOS), operation time, follow-up time, neurological injury status,

[Diagnosis, Treatment and Complications of Knee Dislocation: a Retrospective Study].

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY Acute knee dislocation is a less common injury of the knee joint. It is, however, a serious injury with a high rate of nerve and vascular damage and it is considered a limb threatening injury with long-term functional disability, which can ultimately lead to amputation. Knee dislocations constitute less than 0.5% of all joint dislocations. Most of these injuries occur in highenergy traumas and careful diagnosis can identify the patient at risk of this injury. MATERIAL AND METHODS The total number of patients with knee dislocation was 37. The incidence of knee dislocation w

Results of Treatment of the Multiple Ligament Injured (Dislocated) Knee.

Knee dislocations leading to multiligament knee injuries are associated with a wide variety of bony, ligamentous, soft tissue, and neurovascular injury patterns. Numerous management strategies have been proposed including nonoperative treatment and surgical repair or reconstruction. In recent years, an emphasis has been placed on anatomic repair and reconstruction principles, which have shown superior outcomes compared with older techniques. However, despite these advances, clinical outcomes continue to vary widely, with many patients experiencing chronic pain, stiffness, loss of range of moti

Traumatic Knee Dislocations: Evaluation, Management, and Surgical Treatment.

Knee dislocations are catastrophic injuries that demand emergent evaluation and often require a multidisciplinary approach. Long-term outcome studies are relatively scarce secondary to the variability in any given study population and the wide variety of injury patterns between knee dislocations. Multiple controversies exist with regard to outcomes using various treatment methods (early vs late intervention, graft selection, repair vs reconstruction of medial and lateral structures, rehabilitation regimens). Careful clinical evaluation is essential when knee dislocation is suspected.

Treatment of habitual dislocation of patella in an adult arthritic knee.

Habitual dislocation of the patella (HDP) is a common presentation in pediatric age unlike adults. Many surgical procedures using proximal realignment and distal realignment have been reported to treat HDP in children with satisfactory results. However, late presentation of habitual patellar dislocation with osteoarthritis is rare and treatment plan has not yet been established. We present a case of neglected iatrogenic habitual patellar dislocation with osteoarthritis in a 50-year-old woman. Two-staged procedure was planned, first with patellar realignment and later with definitive total knee

Unilateral congenital dislocation of the knee and hip: a case report.

We report our experience with a unilateral congenital dislocation of the knee associated with a developmental dysplasia of the hip on the same side. Our case is a good example of congenital dislocation of the knee caused by abnormal intrauterine pressure leading to this type of congenital postural deformity. To our knowledge this is the first case of congenital dislocation of the knee reported after cervical cerclage of an incompetent cervix to prevent a pre-term delivery. The Pavlik Harness was used to treat the knee and the hip at the same time with a satisfactory result after 20 months of f

Congenital dislocation of the knee in a 16-year-old girl.

Congenital dislocation of the knee ranges from hyperextension of the knee to translation of the femur on the tibia. Treatment options include bracing, splinting, manipulation and casting, and surgery. A 16-year-old girl presented with an inability to walk, stand upright, or bend her knees. She exhibited deformity of both lower extremities. She had deformed knees from birth, and they had been put in a cast for 2 months. No other therapeutic measures were taken. The patient walked on her abnormally hyperextended knees and could hyperextend the knees to 150 degrees recurvatum. She was diagnosed w

Management of peroneal nerve injuries associated with knee dislocations.

Peroneal nerve palsy after knee dislocation is a serious problem, and neurolysis at the time of knee reconstruction does not always result in return of peroneal nerve function. In light of the current state of microneural surgery, and the potential to reconstruct lengthy nerve defects, this review addresses the appropriate evaluation of peroneal nerve palsy and provides recommendations regarding surgical treatment.

Total knee arthroplasty in an adult with congenital dislocation of the patella.

This article reports the use of total knee arthroplasty with release of the lateral retinaculum, proximal extensor mechanism realignment, and patellar resurfacing as a valid treatment option for adult patients with congenital dislocation of the patella who have absence of the femoral sulcus and associated osteoarthritis. The patient presented in this case report had improvement of his Knee Society knee score and function score from preoperative levels of 8 and 45 to 77 and 80 postoperatively.

Congenital dislocation of the knee reduced spontaneously or with minimal treatment.

Six cases of congenital dislocation of the knee (CDK) reduced spontaneously or with minimal treatment were investigated. Reduction was achieved from 4 days to 3 months after birth. Clinical results were good, although in four cases, hyperextension < or = 20 degrees persisted. In view of the perinatal complications and associated anomalies, CDK reduced with no or minimal treatment is supposed to be a category of congenital postural deformity. We believe that it is advisable to wait 1 month for spontaneous reduction of CDK in cases not associated with clubfoot, arthrogryposis multiplex congenita

Antenatal diagnosis of congenital dislocation of the knee: a case report.

Congenital dislocation of the knee was diagnosed antenatally in an abdominal flat plate. This is probably the first time that this condition has been diagnosed prior to delivery. Examination of the newborn after delivery revealed dislocation of the right hip and knee. The obstetric and orthopedic implications and suggested treatment are discussed.

Reassessing the role of arteriograms in the management of posterior knee dislocations.

Vascular injury has been reported in up to one third of patients with posterior knee dislocations, which has led to the routine use of arteriograms in the management of these injuries. Recent studies have shown physical examination (PE) is reliable in detecting significant vascular injuries requiring surgery from other mechanisms. We hypothesized that PE would be similarly sufficient to assess popliteal injury in patients with posterior knee dislocations. To test this, we reviewed the records of all 37 patients with 38 such injuries at our institution over the past 5 years. The average age was

Results following treatment of traumatic dislocations of the knee joint.

In a retrospective study, 31 patients were identified over a period of 25 years as having sustained traumatic knee dislocations without associated fractures. Three patients had early amputation secondary to vascular complications. Ten popliteal artery disruptions and five peroneal nerve palsies were diagnosed. At the time of follow-up evaluation (average, 40 months), 16 patients were examined. Operatively treated patients (n = 6) tended to have better motion (129 degrees) than nonoperatively treated patients (108 degrees). Varus instability was seen in only two patients treated nonoperatively.

Vascular injury associated with low-velocity dislocations of the knee.

Complete dislocation of the knee is a relatively rare condition. When it occurs as a result of high-velocity injury, such as in a road traffic accident, associated vascular injury is generally suspected. In low-velocity injuries, however, distal pulses are often maintained throughout, and the possibility of vascular injury may erroneously be discounted. We report four cases of low-velocity dislocation of the knee, only one of which had an overt vascular disruption, but three of which had arterial damage. On the basis of our experiences, we recommend arteriography in all cases of complete dislo
