A comprehensive data linkage system for the detailed investigation of occupational cancer has newly been established in the Danish Cancer Registry, providing employment histories back until 1964. Based on this system a study of 839 cases of cancer of the nasal cavities, sinuses and rhinopharnyx and 2,465 cancer controls diagnosed in Denmark during the period 1970-1982 was conducted. Treatment of onychomycosis is associated with substantial disease reappearance rates. Identification of factors associated with therapeutic failure may help develop strategies to prevent recurrence of onychomycosis. Mold onychomycosis often can be clinically suspected because of the presence of periungual inflammation. Treatment with systemic antifungals is very effective in onychomycosis caused by Aspergillus sp. Scopulariopsis brevicaulis and Fusarium sp. infection are difficult to eradicate and treatment with systemic antifungals should always be associated with topical treatment with nail lacquers. Candida onychomycosis is always a sign of immunodepression. Systemic treatment with itraconazole or fluconazole is usually effective, but relapses are very common.

Onychomycosis is a common fungal nail infection, often presenting with nail discoloration, thickening, and brittleness. Myopic choroidal neovascularization (CNV) is a vision-threatening complication of high myopia. Here, we systematically review cohort, case-control, and cross-sectional studies in PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science, and summarize the associated factors of myopic CNV using meta-analysis where applicable. Among 1,333 records assessed, 50 were found eligible, all having a low-to-moderate risk of bias. CASE REPORT: A 12-year-old with a functional circulatory disturbance had toe nail onychomycosis caused by Trichophyton rubrum. There were no other underlying diseases.
THERAPY AND OUTCOME: Oral therapy with terbinafine 125 mg once weekly in addition to ciclopirox nail lacquer was ineffective. Two years later the disease worsened and A. versicolor was found in pure culture. A preparation of 10% terbinafine HCl in a 20% urea ointment (Onychomal®) applied daily for 4 weeks, then once weekly resulted in complete cure after 7 months.

The sensitizing capacity of 7 commercial modified-colophony products of different origins (esters, polyterpene-modified, phenol-modified, resinate, polymerisate) were studied experimentally in guinea pigs by means of a modified Freund's complete adjuvant (FCA) method. All products showed a weak sensitizing power, but a moderate to strong irritant effect. Within this group, the strongest response was obtained with the calcium resinate. As most of these products are used commercially in paints and lacquers, the risk of acquiring specific hypersensitivity must be considered low.

Stomatologic examinations of 1370 children aged 7, 12, and 15, determination of hygienic indexes in them, and anonymous questionnaires distributed among 154 parents and 64 pupils, as well as study of the efficacies of fluorine lacquer and gel have lead the authors to a conclusion that the level of dental caries intensity is low in children, but shows a tendency to growth. This necessitates introduction of a program of measures for the prevention of dental diseases and local administration of fluoride drugs, fluoride gel being the most effective of them.

The survival of spores of Bac. anthracis on the surfaces of wood, resopal, aluminum, teflon, PVC, lacquered sheet metal and ceramics was investigated during a period of 987 days. Two figures are showing the logarithmical reduction rates of germ counts on these materials. The lowest reduction rates were found on wood, the highest on ceramics. On dark surfaces the reduction rate was not as high as on light ones. The increase of relative humidity from 35% to 45% seems to enforce th inactivation of the spores of Bac. anthracis.

AIMS: To investigate the progression pattern of diffuse chorioretinal atrophy (DCA) among Chinese participants with high myopia.
METHODS: This is a longitudinal, non-interventional study. Chemical composition and diffusion of additional factors of a shot from barrel gun supplied with a standard chemical cartridge are studied. Experimental shots from gas pistols of three designs were made. During shots from gas barrel guns the victim is exposed to additional factors characteristic of both fire arms and gas barrel guns, namely, fragments of plastic cartridge container and pads, magnesium particles, and lacquer powder. The characteristics of the short range zone for gas barrel guns correspond to those of short barrel fire arms.

We report the first description of a patient with parkinsonism induced by solvent abuse. Our patient developed parkinsonism acutely, following heavy abuse of lacquer thinner. Her clinical deficits were indistinguishable from idiopathic parkinsonism (Parkinson's disease) and she responded to levodopa. Parkinsonism has persisted for more than 3 months. A total of 297 children aged 5-7 whose first permanent molars appeared in various periods were followed up. Local prevention of caries was carried out in these children with Soviet fluorine lacquer and sealing of fissures and anatomic hollows in molar masticatory surface. The efficacies of these two prevention methods proved to be different. In children whose first permanent molars appeared early or late fissure closing with vitacryl proved to be effective whereas in those whose molars appeared in time both methods were effective.

For the first time, a regulatory network linking melanin, genes, pathways, and edible quality was constructed for 138 Auricularia cornea strains sourced domestically and internationally.
