Cerebral lymphangioma is an extremely rare entity, especially in adults. We report the case of a 38-year-old male who presented with diabetic ketoacidosis (fasting glucose: 4.65 g/L; glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c): 9.5%; urinary ketones and glucose: 4+ (highly positive)), severe holocranial headache, left hemiparesis, and agitation. MRI revealed a 58×46.5 mm right parietal extra-axial lesion with cystic and hemorrhagic components, initially suggestive of a cystic meningioma. Gross total surgical resection was performed following metabolic stabilization. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of l

Retroperitoneal cystic lymphangiomas are rare benign tumors, and their occurrence during pregnancy is exceptionally uncommon. We describe a case of a 31-year-old patient at 36 weeks of pregnancy with a large retroperitoneal tumor discovered incidentally during routine obstetric ultrasound (US). One week later, at 37 weeks of gestation, she delivered a healthy newborn via cesarean section. Although surgical excision was initially proposed, the lesion showed spontaneous dimensional reduction in the postpartum period. Given this atypical evolution, percutaneous drainage followed by sclerosis was

Lymphangioma circumscriptum is a rare benign disorder of lymphatic channels in deep dermal and subcutaneous layers. It can occur either as a congenital abnormality or as acquired damage to previously normal lymphatic channels. It occurs in different parts of the body, and the vulva is one of the parts which is commonly affected. Here, we presented a 39 years old para 2 who presented with vulvar swelling. She was diagnosed with acquired lymphangioma circumscriptum of the vulva and superficial vulvectomy was done.

BACKGROUND: The vulvar form of lymphangioma circumscriptumis a rare condition. It is part of the acquired lymphangiectasia and arises secondary, for example, after surgery, radiotherapy for malignancies in the pelvic region, inflammation in which vulvar lymphedema occurs or Morbus Crohn.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 44-year-old woman presented to the gynaecology outpatient department with a vulvar abnormality that was accompanied by pain and pruritus. Her medical history consisted of premalignant cervical abnormalities and a vulvar lichen simplex chronicus. A biopsy was taken and the diagnosis lymphan

Cystic lymphangioma is a rare and benign lymphatic malformation found most often in the first two years of life. Clinical manifestations are diverse and depend on size and site of the lesion. The most frequently affected sites are cervicofacial and axillary areas. The retroperitoneal form is rare. Diagnosis requires imaging but can only be confirmed on the basis of an anatomopathological examination. The treatment of choice is complete surgical removal. However, this is not always feasible due to proximity of vital structures. Some alternative therapies like sclerotic injection and oral drugs

Lymphangioma is a rare, benign congenital malformation of the lymphatic system that usually affects the neck and head in children. Intra-abdominal lymphangioma accounts for less than 5 percent of all cases of lymphangioma. The clinical presentation of intra-abdominal lymphangioma can vary from asymptomatic to nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. The diagnosis of intra-abdominal lymphangioma is based on imaging modalities and histopathological examination. The definitive treatment is surgical resection. Here we describe the interesting and rare case of a 29-year-old woman with lymphangioma of

Lymphangioma is a rare benign disease of the lymphatic vessels. Typically, they are primary conditions but may be acquired secondarily, such as those caused by irradiation during radiotherapy for the treatment of breast cancer. The local lymphatic obstruction provoked by irradiation causes the appearance of asymptomatic hyaline vesicles on the irradiated skin. The present report describes a 78-year-old female patient, who initially presented hyaline vesicles that progressed into multiple papules with serous exudation of a yellowish and odorless secretion on the area of chronic radiodermitis in

Lymphangiomas are benign hamartomatous tumors of the lymphatic channels which present as developmental malformations arising from sequestration of lymphatic tissue that do not communicate with the rest of the lymphatic channels. Lymphatic vessels are filled with a clear protein-rich fluid containing few lymph cells. It can also occur in association with hemangioma. The onset of lymphangiomas are either at birth (60% to 70%) or up to two years of age (90%) and rare in adults. Lymphangiomas have marked predilection for the head and neck region (50-70%). The most common location in the mouth is t

An 11-year-old boy was referred to our department for vesicular lesions of the buttocks of 7 years' duration (Figure 1). He also complained of intermittent oozing of serosanguineous fluid, which caused social impairment. On clinical examination, clusters of flesh-colored to translucent papules were present over the buttocks, perianal area, and left calf. The lesions were excised 4 years ago, after confirming the diagnosis of lymphangioma circumscriptum on histopathology. They started recurring on and around the surgical site within 6 months of surgery. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was perf

The authors report a case of acquired lymphangioma circumscriptum (LC), localised in the right labium majus of vulva and characterised by periodic symptoms for 8 years; however, 3 months after the right major labiectomy, the same symptoms developed in both the left labium majus and the right labium minus. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of acquired LC with this type of localisation and symptoms without any known aetiologic factor.

Congenital lymphangioma circumscriptum (LC) of the vulva is a rare disorder with unknown etiology. Treatment options include ablative approaches such as laser therapy, sclerotherapy, and surgery. Radiotherapy has been shown to be effective in the management of congenital lymphangioma especially in the thoracic and abdominal lesions. In this report, we describe a patient with persistent vulvar LC despite sclerosing therapy and several surgical excisions. She was treated with a course of external radiotherapy and showed a dramatic objective response with relief of all symptoms.

OBJECTIVE: Prenatally diagnosed cystic nuchal hygroma is often associated with chromosomal anomalies and hydrops fetalis. Chest lymphangioma diagnosed later in gestation appears to be a completely different disease, with a low incidence of chromosomal and structural anomalies.
METHODS: Two chest cavernous lymphangiomas of the fetus are presented. The sonographic images, chromosomal analyses, and macroscopic and microscopic evaluations are described.
RESULTS: Fetal chest cavernous lymphangiomas were identified at 15 and 22 weeks' gestation. In the first case, the couple decided to interrupt g

Intra-abdominal cystic lymphangioma is a rare dysembryogenetic tumour. Although laparoscopic treatment may be feasible and has been reported in the literature, the extension of the mass to the retroperitoneum can make a minimally invasive surgical approach difficult or impossible. We describe the case of a patient with lymphangioma with retroperitoneal extension who underwent successful surgical therapy.

PURPOSE: To describe the clinical results of systemic corticosteroid use in a series of patients with orbital lymphangioma.
METHODS: Four patients (two adults and two children) were treated with corticosteroids using intravenous, oral, or both routes for 2 days to a month. Corticosteroids were used with and without other therapies for symptomatic exacerbations.
RESULTS: The adults showed more improvement with pain than with swelling, whereas the children had improvement with both the signs and symptoms. There were no complications in any patient.
CONCLUSIONS: Systemic corticosteroids are a

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Prenatally diagnosed cystic lymphangioma (CL) is often associated with chromosomal anomalies, hydrops fetalis, and, in the case of cervical CL, occasionally respiratory distress just after birth. Often it is difficult to treat prenatally diagnosed CL because of the large size and associated symptoms.
METHODS: Between 1988 and 1997, 11 cases of prenatally diagnosed CL were treated. Five pregnancies were terminated electively and one aborted spontaneously (nondelivered, non-D group), and another five delivered (delivered, D group). Thirteen infants nondiagnosed prenatally we

Two cases of cystic hygroma arising as a primary lesion in the chest are presented. Because of calcifications discovered on CT and because of the anterior location of the mass in both cases, teratoma was the first diagnostic consideration. However, after surgical removal, histologic study determined that both lesions were cystic hygromas with areas of scattered calcification probably secondary to hemorrhage. These cases are presented because of the remarkable similarity of their imaging features to those of teratoma.

An asymptomatic 57-year-old man was referred for evaluation of a 10 mm pale pink subepithelial polypoid lesion of the distal oesophagus; the lesion was found incidentally during an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. The endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) revealed a heterogeneous, although primarily hypoechogenic, well-circumscribed lesion, located in the submucosa. Owing to the absence of endosonographic features, which would have allowed for a precise diagnosis, EUS-guided fine-needle aspiration was performed; however, the cytology was inconclusive because of the lack of cellular representation.
