Comparison of Speech Defects in Different Types of Malocclusion.

Introduction Speech has a great impact on human evolution, allowing for the widespread knowledge and advancement of tools. Difficulty in pronouncing one or more sounds is the most common speech impairment. Speech defects are more commonly associated with class III malocclusion patients (difficulty in pronouncing 's' and 't' sounds), the second in line is class II malocclusion (difficulty in pronouncing 's' and 'z' sounds), and speech distortions are least affected in class I malocclusion (difficulty in pronouncing 's' and 'Sh'). Most patients with dentofacial disharmonies and speech distortion

Association of malocclusion and trauma in children: A retrospective study.

Malocclusion is considered one of the most prevalent oral issues and it is considered one of the major risk factors for dental trauma. Dental trauma is a distressing experience for children, and they can have long-term physical, esthetic, and psychological effects. Hence, the main aim of this retrospective study is to evaluate the association between dental trauma and malocclusion in children. Four hundred and fifty patients between the age of 8 and 17 years during March 1, 2020-February 31, 2021, with Ellis classes 1, 2, and 3 were included in the study. Association of type of fracture with g

Dental Malocclusion and Its Relation to the Podal System.

Background and Objective: This study analyzes the possibility that Stomatognathic and Postural systems are related by muscle chains. Malocclusion may influence the posture, contact between the foot and the ground, center of mass, footprint or vice-versa. This study aimed to verify whether there is a relationship between dental occlusion and podal system. Materials and Methods: A cross-cutting, descriptive study was carried out on 409 children (222 boys and 187 girls) between 8 and 14 years old. Dental occlusion was assessed on the sagittal plane (Angle's classification) the contact between the

A novel method for the treatment of Class II malocclusion.

Growth modification is a feasible approach for the treatment of skeletal Class II malocclusion. A positive association was found between the lateral functional shift of the mandible due to occlusal prematurities and skeletal changes. This finding is reminiscent of an equivalent anteroposterior skeletal effect of the anterior functional shift of the mandible. Inclined planes can be considered as a form of premature contact. In this case, bonded occlusal maxillary and mandibular bite raisers were used to create occlusal prematurities artificially. These bonded inclined bite raisers are used in c

A transdisciplinary approach for treatment of class III malocclusion.

The main aim of orthodontic treatment is to achieve most stable, functional, and esthetic outcome either by conventional, interdisciplinary, or surgical protocol. Treatment modalities differ for growing and nongrowing patients. In nongrowing patients with moderate to severe dental and skeletal deformities, interdisciplinary treatment combined approach is required with orthodontics and orthognathic surgery. Case discussed here is of class III skeletal bases with orthognathic maxilla and prognathic mandible having anterior crossbite with a horizontal growth pattern treated by transdisciplinary a

Developing Class III malocclusions: challenges and solutions.

Class III malocclusion represents a growth-related dentofacial deformity with mandibular prognathism in relation to the maxilla and/or cranial base. Its prevalence varies greatly among and within different races, ethnic groups, and geographic regions studied. Class III malocclusion has a multifactorial etiology, which is the expression of a moderate distortion of normal development as a result of interaction between innate factors or genetic hereditary with environmental factors. Various skeletal topographies of underlying Class III malocclusion are due to discrepancy in the maxillary and mand

Classification and treatment of Class II subdivision malocclusions.

INTRODUCTION: Patients with Class II subdivision malocclusions are a challenge for clinicians because reestablishing symmetry in 1 arch or both arches is often a treatment goal. In patients with mandibular skeletal asymmetry, surgery is often a treatment option. However, patients may be unwilling to undergo surgery, and other options might have to be considered. The aim of this study was to evaluate the etiologies and outcomes of Class II subdivision patients treated at the University of Washington graduate orthodontic clinic in Seattle from 1995 through 2011. METHODS: A search of patients tr

Teeth eruption in children with normal occlusion and malocclusion.

The aim of this study was to assess the differences in eruption of permanent teeth (C, P1, P2 and M2) in a group of children with and without malocclusion. A sample of 1758 children (921 boys and 837 girls), aged 8-13 was randomly selected. The subjects were grouped by chronological age (11 groups) and by presence of malocclusion. Statistically significant differences were found for both, upper and lower canines in the age group 11 (p<0.01). Statistically significant difference was found in the age group 8.5 for upper first (p<0.05), upper second premolars (p<0.01) in the age group 10, and the

Mandibular condyle morphology in relation to malocclusions in children.

Recent studies show that forces applied to the mandible during treatment with functional appliances and other orthodontic therapies produce changes in the TMJ. Specific malocclusions might also apply forces that can produce changes in the morphology of the TMJ. This study examined 104 orthodontic patients (44 males and 60 females) prior to treatment. The size and location of the condyle was determined on submento-vertex and tomographic films which was related to clinical findings including age, sex, malocclusion type, facial type, TMJ symptoms, tooth eruption sequence, crossbites and midline d

Response to activator treatment in Class II malocclusions.

A clinical study was designed to disclose the effects of activator treatment in the correction of Class II malocclusions. The rationale for the use of the activator appliance was based on the premise that correction of distocclusion can be achieved by inhibition of forward growth of the maxilla, inhibition of mesial migration of maxillary teeth, inhibition of maxillary alveolar height increase and extrusion of mandibular molars, increased growth of the mandible, anterior relocation of the glenoid fossa, mesial movement of mandibular teeth, and combinations of these effects. The appliance, as d
