The standard treatment in the early stage of maxillary sinus cancer is surgical resection followed by postoperative radiation therapy. However, for locally advanced maxillary sinus cancer, a multimodality treatment approach is strongly recommended to improve the survival rate and quality of life of the patient. Maxillary sinus hypoplasia has been observed in up to 10% of radiological studies of the face or head. Although this may be a coincidental finding, it has been associated with chronic sinusitis and facial pain. Associated abnormalities of the lateral nasal wall, orbit, and ostiomeatal complex are common. The importance of this condition is, first, in the differential diagnosis of an "opaque" maxillary sinus and, second, as a potential hazard to the orbit of such patients, should they undergo functional endoscopic sinus surgery.

Autopsy was performed on 67 patients who had squamous cell carcinoma of the maxillary sinus. These patients had undergone radiotherapy and died during a 30 year period, which ended for this study in 1982. Methamphetamines are the second most commonly used illicit drug worldwide and cost the United States health-care system ∼$23.4 billion annually. Use of this drug affects multiple organ systems and causes a variety of clinical manifestations. Although there are commonly known sequelae of methamphetamine abuse such as "meth mouth," there is limited evidence regarding maxillary sinus manifestations.
