We have developed a simple, low-cost, paper-based probe for the selective colorimetric detection of copper ions (Cu(2+)) in aqueous solutions. Dopamine inhibits prolactin release from pituitary cells and seems to affect the release of several other hormones as well. We report here that dopamine may have similar effects on human B lymphoma cells leading to inhibition of production or release of endogenous factors required for cell viability and proliferation. In order to rationally test the efficacy of mucolytic and mucospissic compounds, their effects upon mucus viscoelasticity, ciliary beat frequency (c.b.f.) and total mucociliary transport rate (t.t.r.) must all be determined. Human breast cyst fluid (BCF) proteins were evaluated by sodium dodecylsulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) after protein denaturation in the presence or absence of 2-mercaptoethanol. A murine monoclonal antibody (ECS-1) was prepared from BALB/c mice immunized with trypsinized cultured human foreskin keratinocytes. The antibody showed a pattern suggestive of intercellular staining on the nucleated layers of normal human epidermis, adult palm, mouse lip epidermis, and cultured human keratinocytes.
