Gastrointestinal hemangiomas are rare, and those involving the mesentery are even more infrequent. The majority of cases reported in the literature had mesenteric cavernous hemangioma of the small intestine. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first documented case of a hemangioma originating from the mesentery of the descending colon. Preoperative diagnosis is exceedingly difficult, and various imaging modalities may be inconclusive. INTRODUCTION: Extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) is a rare plasma cell disorder that can occasionally involve the gastrointestinal tract, though involvement of the small intestine and mesentery is very uncommon. Diagnosis is challenging as patient presentation is variable with pain, obstruction, or bleeding, and imaging cannot differentiate between other malignancies. Diagnosis is not achieved until histopathological analysis of the resected mass. Treatment and prognosis depend on finding of primary EMP or secondary EMP in the setting of multiple myeloma.

Mesonephric remnants are embryonic vestiges of the mesonephric (Wolffian) ducts which regress during normal development. These remnants have been uncommonly reported in the female and male reproductive tract as a spectrum of morphologic lesions that can be misdiagnosed as carcinoma. BACKGROUND: Calcifying fibrous tumor (CFT) is a rare entity, with a distinctive histological presentation, initially reported as childhood fibrous tumor with psammoma bodies. It is a benign hypocellular fibrous neoplasm calcifications and lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate. The CFTs may involve many sites, including gastrointestinal tract, pleura, abdominal cavity, and neck. The diagnosis might be challenging due to histological overlaps with other mesenchymal tumors. The prognosis is good. We describe herein the case of a 53-year-old woman with an incidentally diagnosed CFT of the mesentery.

An entire, female, mixed-breed cat of unknown age was presented with a 6-week history of lethargy, anorexia and vomiting. Lymphangioma is a rare benign condition characterized by proliferation of lymphatic spaces. It is usually found in the head and neck of affected children. Dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLPS) is a variant of liposarcoma but with a more aggressive course. It occurs most commonly in the retroperitoneum and rarely in any other anatomical location. We describe a case of DDLPS arising from the small bowel mesentery presenting as submucosal mass of the small bowel. The current case is unusual as the tumor originated from the small bowel mesentery and a dedifferentiated component transmurally invaded the small bowel wall, including the small bowel submucosa.

Two yolk sac tumors that arose in the mesentery of the jejunum and the mesentery of the transverse colon of two male patients, aged 2 and 17 years, are reported. Both patients had abdominal masses. We present a case of plexiform neurofibromatosis involving the ileum and its mesentery. Computed tomography (CT) scans showed a cluster of small soft-tissue density nodules, which represented a cross-sectional image of the enlarged peripheral nerves and wall thickening of the distal ileum. Trapped fat tissue was demonstrated between these enlarged nerves. Histopathologic studies of the resected specimen correlated well with CT findings.

Mesenteric mesh-pexy is indicated for permanent and quick-clean fixation of the intestine. It is applicable to the treatment of recurrent stomal prolapse and intestinal volvulus when the intestine is viable, but resection, less definitive treatment or an additional operation would pose increased risks to the patient. Mesenteric mesh-pexy may also be considered prophylactically for floppy cecum and severely redundant loops of sigmoid colon.

The authors report four cases of mesenteric tumour including one cavernous lymphangioma complicated by volvulus of of the small intestine and one angiofibroma, a benign solid tumour which is rarely encountered. They comment on the preoperative assessment, which is not always possible for these patients are often operated on as an emergency. Cysts are easy to remove, but solid tumours even when benign are much more difficult to remove.
