Impact of Secondary Traumatic Stress and Burnout on Organizational Outcomes for the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Workforce.

This survey study examined how secondary traumatic stress (STS), emotional exhaustion (EE), and other personal and work-related factors of 406 direct support professionals (DSPs) affected job satisfaction and turnover intentions. Regression and structural equation modeling revealed that STS was positively related to EE that was negatively related to job satisfaction and positively related to turnover intentions, thus mediating the relationship between STS and these workplace outcomes. In addition, both resilience and perceived organizational support were positively and directly related to job

How organizational commitment shapes IPC execution through job satisfaction among infection prevention and control professionals.

BACKGROUND: Healthcare-associated infections underscore the critical role of infection prevention and control (IPC), a concern sharpened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Although organizational commitment and job satisfaction are recognized drivers of IPC compliance, their combined association with IPC execution and the mechanism linking them remain insufficiently understood. This study quantitatively examined the association between organizational commitment and IPC self-reported execution (SR-execution), with job satisfaction as a mediator. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 394

Harnessing Potential: A Systematic Investigation of How and Why Learning Happens in a Health System.

BACKGROUND: The ability to learn is central to innovation and performance across industries, and it is the hallmark feature of the rapidly growing movement toward Learning Health Systems. While learning drivers-such as experimentation, risk-taking, participative decision-making, dialogue, and interaction with the external environment-are well defined, they have received little attention in healthcare contexts. AIM: This study explored the nature of organizational learning within Trillium Health Partners (THP), one of Canada's largest community-based teaching hospital systems. METHODS: Formal

Factors Associated with Working During the COVID-19 Pandemic and Intent to Stay at Current Nursing Position.

The pandemic exacerbated job stress and burnout among nurses, increasing turnover and intentions to leave, in a workforce struggling with severe shortages. Shortages and turnover are associated with decreased quality of care, poor nurse health, and increased costs. This article reports the findings of a study that sought to identify characteristics of the job, work environment, and psychosocial health outcomes that may predict nurses' intent to stay at their current nursing position within the next year. Utilizing a cross-sectional design, we electronically surveyed working nurses (n = 629) du

Organizational Justice and Health: A Survey in Hospital Workers.

In complex systems such as hospitals, work organization can influence the level of occupational stress and, consequently, the physical and mental health of workers. Hospital healthcare workers were asked to complete a questionnaire during their regular occupational health examination, in order to assess the perceived level of organizational justice, and to verify whether it was associated with occupational stress, mental health, and absenteeism. The questionnaire included the Colquitt Organizational Justice (OJ) Scale, the Karasek/Theorell demand-control-support (DCS) questionnaire for occupat

Contextually adapted functional and dysfunctional presenteeism during protracted conflict.

BACKGROUND: Healthcare professionals working during protracted conflict are exposed to persistent stressors that challenge both psychological well-being and occupational functioning. Understanding the mechanisms that support adaptive functioning under prolonged adversity is essential for maintaining workforce capacity and continuity of care. Drawing on Conservation of Resources (COR) theory, this study examined how stress, resilience, organizational trust, and strain symptoms relate to functional and dysfunctional presenteeism. OBJECTIVE: To examine whether strain symptoms mediate the relatio

Letrozole treatment of pubertal female mice results in activational effects on reproduction, metabolism and the gut microbiome.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder in reproductive-aged women that is comprised of two out of the following three features: hyperandrogenism, oligo- or amenorrhea, or polycystic ovaries. In addition to infertility, many women with PCOS have metabolic dysregulation that increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Changes in the gut microbiome are associated with PCOS and gut microbes may be involved in the pathology of this disorder. Since PCOS often manifests in the early reproductive years, puberty is cons

Breaking down costs: rehabilitation robotics vs. usual care therapy in diverse healthcare models.

One of the significant barriers to the adoption of rehabilitation robotics into clinical care over the last 30 years has been the high investment costs of the technology. There have been limited efforts to understand the healthcare economics of implementing rehabilitation robotics compared to usual care. From the few studies that have investigated the cost, the findings have had limited generalizability to other clinical settings or contexts due to diverse healthcare models and the complexity of implementation factors. This study compares three organizational models in rehabilitation centers a

Development and implementation of a business continuity management risk index.

This paper will present the building blocks for developing and implementing the BCM risk index; whether it is used as a comprehensive metric for risk or preparedness. This paper introduces the concept of a business continuity management (BCM) risk index--a comprehensive metric that measures and reports the status of the primary 'intended outcome' of the BCM programme to top management. In addition to measuring the primary programme output,;the BCM risk index can be used to demonstrate the overall value of the BCM programme to executive management. This is accomplished because the BCM risk inde

Achieving enhanced organisational resilience by improved management of risk: Summary of research into the principles of resilience and the practices of resilient organisations.

There have been many high-profile incidents in recent times that have affected both individual organisations and large parts of society. In response to these disasters and their consequences, there has been increasing focus on the concept of 'resilience'. Airmic worked with Cranfield School of Management to investigate the features of resilient organisations and whether common characteristics could be identified. The research summarised in this paper discovered five principles that increase an organisation's level of resilence. The paper also reports on the actions taken by organisations to em

The relationship between distributed leadership and teachers' teaching enthusiasm: the chain mediation of teacher autonomy and organizational commitment.

INTRODUCTION: Teachers' teaching enthusiasm is a key factor positively associated with sustained engagement in professional practice, higher teaching quality, and student development. Unlike general job related affective states such as job satisfaction or work engagement, teaching enthusiasm specifically captures the intrinsic enjoyment, value endorsement, and sustained passion for the core act of teaching. The specific mechanisms by which distributed leadership is associated with teachers' teaching enthusiasm remain an issue requiring further exploration. METHODS: Data were drawn from 1,319

Exploring opportunities with activity-based work in Swedish public workplaces-a qualitative analysis based on the socio-ecological model.

INTRODUCTION: Activity-based work (ABW) is a workplace concept that offers different work environments, letting employees choose settings that best support their specific tasks. Although research on ABW is growing, there is limited knowledge about how employees experience opportunities in these environments, particularly from a salutogenic health-promoting perspective. METHODS: A qualitative design was applied using a survey with open-ended questions, completed by 448 employees in administrative roles in one public sector organization in Sweden. A combined deductive and inductive content anal

Back to Work, Running on Empty? How Recovery Needs and Perceived Organizational Support Shape Employees' Vigor Upon Return to Work.

Returning to work after extended holidays poses significant challenges to employees' psychological adjustment, yet this phenomenon remains underexplored in organizational research. Drawing on the Conservation of Resources (COR) theory, this study develops and tests a moderated mediation model to examine how pre-holiday work-related irritation influences post-holiday workplace vigor through heightened need for recovery, and how perceived organizational support buffers this process. Data were collected through a four-wave time-lagged design surrounding the Chinese Spring Festival, with a final s
