Highly efficient recovery of molybdenum from spent catalyst by an optimized process.

Disposal of spent catalyst in an economical and green way has become a great concern for industrial production. We developed a process including acid leaching, solvent extraction and stripping in order to recycle spent catalyst. In this study, we conducted selective recovery of molybdenum through focus on finding an optimized extraction and stripping process by comparing different extractants and stripping agents. To separate molybdenum from other metals efficiently and figure out the mechanism of extraction process, the five different extractants of methyl trioctyl ammonium chloride, tri-n-oc

Mild phenotype in Molybdenum cofactor deficiency: A new patient and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Molybdenum cofactor deficiency (MoCD) is a rare autosomal-recessive disorder that results in the combined deficiency of molybdenum-dependent enzymes. Four different genes are involved in Molybdenum cofactor biosynthesis: MOCS1, MOCS2, MOCS3, and GEPH. The classical form manifests in the neonatal period with severe encephalopathy, including intractable seizures, MRI changes that resemble hypoxic-ischemic injury, microcephaly, and early death. To date, an atypical phenotype with late-onset has been reported in the literature in 13 patients. METHODS: We describe a late-onset and a re

Note: Fabrication and characterization of molybdenum tips for scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy.

We present a method for the preparation of bulk molybdenum tips for Scanning Tunneling Microscopy and Spectroscopy and we assess their potential in performing high resolution imaging and local spectroscopy by measurements on different single crystal surfaces in UHV, namely, Au(111), Si(111)-7 × 7, and titanium oxide 2D ordered nanostructures supported on Au(111). The fabrication method is versatile and can be extended to other metals, e.g., cobalt.

Identification of a bis-molybdopterin intermediate in molybdenum cofactor biosynthesis in Escherichia coli.

The molybdenum cofactor is an important cofactor, and its biosynthesis is essential for many organisms, including humans. Its basic form comprises a single molybdopterin (MPT) unit, which binds a molybdenum ion bearing three oxygen ligands via a dithiolene function, thus forming Mo-MPT. In bacteria, this form is modified to form the bis-MPT guanine dinucleotide cofactor with two MPT units coordinated at one molybdenum atom, which additionally contains GMPs bound to the terminal phosphate group of the MPTs (bis-MGD). The MobA protein catalyzes the nucleotide addition to MPT, but the mechanism o

Evidence for nifU and nifS participation in the biosynthesis of the iron-molybdenum cofactor of nitrogenase.

The nifU and nifS genes encode the components of a cellular machinery dedicated to the assembly of [2Fe-2S] and [4Fe-4S] clusters required for growth under nitrogen-fixing conditions. The NifU and NifS proteins are involved in the production of active forms of the nitrogenase component proteins, NifH and NifDK. Although NifH contains a [4Fe-4S] cluster, the NifDK component carries two complex metalloclusters, the iron-molybdenum cofactor (FeMo-co) and the [8Fe-7S] P-cluster. FeMo-co, located at the active site of NifDK, is composed of 7 iron, 9 sulfur, 1 molybdenum, 1 homocitrate, and 1 uniden

Kinetics and mechanism of the reaction of cyanide with molybdenum nitrogenase from Azotobacter vinelandii.

The steady-state kinetic behavior of the six-electron reduction of N2 by nitrogenase is known to differ markedly from the six-electron reduction of cyanide in two ways. First, on extrapolation to infinite concentration of cyanide, the H2 evolution reaction is almost completely suppressed whereas at extrapolated infinite concentration of N2, H2 evolution continues. Second, as the ratio of the Fe protein to the MoFe protein increases, the reduction of N2 is favored over H2 evolution, whereas the reduction of cyanide becomes less favored relative to H2 evolution. We have extended these steady-sta

Molybdenum at levels of 2, 20, 40, and 60 mg/kg dry matter was added to a sheep ration containing 82 copper and 3, 8 g sulphur per kg dry matter. At the 2 higher levels of molybdenum, a substantial accumulation of copper and molybdenum was observed in the kidney cortices of the South African Mutton Merinos (reported elsewhere). The effect of these treatments on the health of the sheep was investigated. Observations on the 3 molybdenum supplemented treatments were: Serum enzyme levels remained normal throughout the trial. Molybdenum doping enhances backbonding at neighboring iron centers in iron-sulfur clusters.

Nitrogenases employ Fe-S co-factors to reduce the weakly π-acidic ligand N2 to NH3. The Mo nitrogenase is more efficient than the V and Fe-only nitrogenases, but how the Mo ion enhances N2 reduction is not fully understood. In this study, we undertake a comparative structural and spectroscopic analysis of synthetic [MoFe3S4] and [Fe4S4] clusters that ultimately reveals how the presence of Mo impacts the ability of Fe-S clusters to interact with π-acids. Specifically, we find that compared with the Fe centers in the [Fe4S4] clusters, those in the [MoFe3S4] clusters are more adept at backbonding

Gold nanoparticles hybridizing molybdenum disulfide nanosheets for sensitive surface-enhanced Raman scattering.

Coin-metal@semiconductor nanohybrids have attracted extensive attention in surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) detection, aiming to achieve the synergistic effect of electromagnetic enhancement mechanism (EM) and chemical enhancement mechanism (CM). In this work, positively charged thin-layered molybdenum disulfide nanosheets (MoS2NSs) and negatively charged gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were synthesized, which were further fabricated into MoS2NSs@AuNPs via electrostatic interactions and Au-S bonding. The approach is quite rapid, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly, and the resultin

Activating Molybdenum Peroxide Scissors for Converting Polyamide Plastic into Low Carbon Alcohols.

Direct chemical conversion of plastic waste into low-carbon oxygenates, rather than carbon dioxide, with renewable energy, is important yet challenging. Due to high C─X (X═C, H, N) bond energy, fully optimized catalysts are required to enable precise bond cleavage for boosted efficiency and selectivity. Here, adaptable and recyclable molybdenum peroxide photocatalysts that demonstrate chemical scissors for the selective conversion of polyamide to alcohols are reported. It shows that dimensionally adaptable Mo(+5.8)-(O2) is activated via a ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) process for loca

NIR-responsive molybdenum (Mo)-based nanoclusters enhance ROS scavenging for osteoarthritis therapy.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most prevalent musculoskeletal disorders globally, and treating OA remains a significant challenge. Currently, pharmacological treatments primarily aim to alleviate the OA symptoms associated with inflammation and pain, and no disease-modifying therapies are available to delay OA development and progression. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play an essential role in OA development and progression, which are a promising target for curing OA. In this study, it was found that photothermal properties of near-infrared (NIR) irradiation enhanced the ROS scavenging acti

S-sulfocysteine/NMDA receptor-dependent signaling underlies neurodegeneration in molybdenum cofactor deficiency.

Molybdenum cofactor deficiency (MoCD) is an autosomal recessive inborn error of metabolism characterized by neurodegeneration and death in early childhood. The rapid and progressive neurodegeneration in MoCD presents a major clinical challenge and may relate to the poor understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved. Recently, we reported that treating patients with cyclic pyranopterin monophosphate (cPMP) is a successful therapy for a subset of infants with MoCD and prevents irreversible brain damage. Here, we studied S-sulfocysteine (SSC), a structural analog of glutamate that accumulate

Biodegradable molybdenum intramedullary nails facilitate fracture repair through neutrophil-mediated immune response.

Molybdenum (Mo) has been considered as a promising biodegradable metal for fracture fixation owing to its favorable mechanical properties and controlled degradation behavior. Although existing studies have confirmed the osteoinductive potential of molybdenum-based materials, the biological mechanism through which molybdenum facilitates bone healing remains poorly elucidated. This study systematically evaluated the fracture repair performance of biodegradable Mo intramedullary nails in a rat femoral fracture model and further characterized the early peri-implant immune microenvironment using si

Capturing and Editing Te-Deficient Phases in Two-Dimensional Molybdenum Telluride Compound.

Phase engineering of stoichiometric two-dimensional materials and their heterostructures remains a formidable challenge due to the thermodynamic stability disparity among the stoichiometric phases. Here, we report a dynamic-equilibrium approach (DEA) to access Te-deficient polymorphs in the Mo-Te system. By dynamically balancing tellurium vacancy generation and refilling, we drive selective phase transitions along divergent pathways. Starting from 1T'-MoTe2, we access three distinct Te-deficient phases: a novel van der Waals (vdW) Mo5Te8 with a high density of mirror-twin boundaries, a Chevrel

Template-Encoded Assembly and Adaptive Function in Selenium-Based Molybdenum Chalcoxide Rings.

Controlling both structure and function in inorganic self-assembly remains a major challenge. Here we establish a programmable strategy for constructing selenium-based molybdenum chalcoxides using the [Mo2O2Se2]2+ dimer as a universal building block. The template-directed assembly process produces a complete family of ring architectures (n = 8-16), with nuclearity encoded by the template's geometry and acidity. Selenium incorporation introduces electronic softness that imparts unusual structural flexibility and enables adaptive behaviour. NMR titration experiments reveal host-guest exchange in

Metallic molybdenum sulfide catalyses protometabolic carbon dioxide reaction networks under extreme conditions.

The nonenzymatic synthesis of organics from H2-CO2 redox couple forms the foundational basis for prebiotic carbon metabolism. However, constructing comprehensive carbon cycling reaction networks with multiple interlinked subsystems preceding enzymatic catalysis remains challenging. Here, we demonstrate that metallic molybdenum sulfide mimicking Mo-S2-pterin enzyme drives the construction of hydrothermal CO2 reaction networks across five carbon sequestration pathways including acetyl-CoA, reductive tricarboxylic acid, 3-hydroxypropionate-4-hydroxybutyrate, dicarboxylate-4-hydroxybutyrate, and e
