Detecting variability of internal carotid arterial Doppler signals by Lyapunov exponents.

The new method presented in this study was directly based on the consideration that internal carotid arterial Doppler signals are chaotic signals. This consideration was tested successfully using the nonlinear dynamics tools, like the computation of Lyapunov exponents. Multilayer perceptron neural network (MLPNN) architecture was formulated and used as a basis for detecting variabilities such as stenosis and occlusion in the physical state of internal carotid arterial Doppler signals. The computed Lyapunov exponents of the internal carotid arterial Doppler signals were used as inputs of the ML

Explainable hybrid machine learning model for predicting stunting and identifying key risk factors among Ethiopian children under five.

Childhood stunting, caused by poor nutrition, infections, and inadequate stimulation, impairs growth and development. This leads to reduced cognitive function and academic performance, increased risk of illness and death due to weakened immunity, lower economic productivity, and higher susceptibility to chronic diseases in adulthood. Childhood stunting is a major issue in low-income countries like Ethiopia. Children’s stunting prevalence in Ethiopia is 35.4%, highlighting the need for interventions. The World Health Organization (WHO) classifies stunting as normal, moderate, and severe. The st

Study of CO2 capture by synthesized composite and modelling with machine learning and response surface methodology.

This research investigated and optimized the separation of carbon dioxide (CO2) from natural gas in an adsorption column filled with grafted-beam nanofiber adsorbent. The main purpose of using ANN and RSM models in this manuscript is to compare these two methods in predicting the CO2 adsorption capacity. In other words, it was made to find a suitable model that has the highest agreement with the experimental data. Also, the other purpose of using the RSM model is to detect the optimized empirical conditions. Moreover, two common ANN models are applied in this work, including a multilayer perce

Assessment of thermokinetic behaviour of tannery sludge in slow pyrolysis process through artificial neural network.

In the leather industry, tannery sludge is produced in large volume. This study investigated the thermal degradation behavior of tannery sludge using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The experiments were carried out in an inert atmosphere using nitrogen gas at varied heating rates of 5, 10, 20, and 40 °C/min in the temperature range of 30-900 °C. For the kinetic parameters calculation, three different models, Friedman, Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose (KAS) and the Ozawa-Flynn-Wall (OFW), were employed. The average activation energy (Ea) obtained from Friedman, KAS, and the OFW methods were 130.9 kJ

Predictive machine learning approaches for the microstructural behavior of multiphase zirconium alloys.

Zirconium alloys are widely used in harsh environments characterized by high temperatures, corrosivity, and radiation exposure. These alloys, which have a hexagonal closed packed (h.c.p.) structure thermo-mechanically degrade, when exposed to severe operating environments due to hydride formation. These hydrides have a different crystalline structure, than the matrix, which results in a multiphase alloy. To accurately model these materials at the relevant physical scale, it is necessary to fully characterize them based on a microstructural fingerprint, which is defined here as a combination of

Machine learning method for the prediction of Bedaquiline-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

The study addresses the increasing resistance to the FDA-approved drug Bedaquiline (BDQ) in Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). The absence of any defined resistance locus and the wide variation in the drug targets across clinical isolates have raised a big question about our understanding of the molecular basis of BDQ resistance acquisition. Using machine learning (ML) methods, BDQ resistance was predicted from whole-genome sequencing data for MTB clinical isolates. Variant calling format data generation involved several steps, including adapter trimming and alignment to the H37Rv reference gen

High-performance microcavity sensing combining MgCo2O4 modification with machine learning.

The whispering gallery mode (WGM) microbottle resonators, with their natural liquid delivery channel structure and high-quality factor (Q), provide a crucial technical platform for precise microfluidic measurement. To further enhance the detection sensitivity, this research constructs a highly sensitive ethanol and acetone sensor by modifying the inner wall of a hollow microbottle resonator (HMR) with MgCo2O4 nanomaterials. The results show that the sensitivity of the modified sensor is 0.0792 nm/% to ethanol solution, which is 2.1 times that of acetone. This indicates that the sensor has high

Breast cancer diagnosis from histopathological images using textural features and CBIR.

Currently, breast cancer diagnosis is an extensively researched topic. An effective method to diagnose breast cancer is to use histopathological images. However, extracting features from these images is a challenging task. Thus, we propose a method that uses phylogenetic diversity indexes to characterize images for creating a model to classify histopathological breast images into four classes - invasive carcinoma, in situ carcinoma, normal tissue, and benign lesion. The classifiers used were the most robust ones according to the existing literature: XGBoost, random forest, multilayer perceptro

Classification of MCA stenosis in diabetes by MLP and RBF neural network.

For the classification of Middle Cerebral Artery (MCA) stenosis, Doppler signals have been received from the diabetes and control group by using 2 MHz Transcranial Doppler. After the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analyses of the Doppler signals, Power Spectrum Density (PSD) estimations have been made and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) and Radial Basis Function (RBF) have been dealt to apply to the neural networks. PSD estimations of Doppler signals received from MCA of 104 subjects have been successfully classified by MLP (correct classification = 94.2%) and RBF (correct classification = 88.4%) ne

Detection of acute lymphocytic and myeloid leukaemia with optimized dimensionality reduction and deep learning classification framework.

Leukaemia is a deadly illness that affects a huge number of people all over the world. ALL (Acute lymphocytic Leukaemia) and AML (Acute Myelogenous Leukaemia) are the common type of leukaemia where AML widely affects older people and ALL commonly affects children. Therefore, the projected system employed GMLP-MLDA (Globalized Multi-Layer Perceptron with Modified Linear Discriminant Analysis) for the detection of ALL and AML through the gene expression dataset. Although the LDA is a better system for reducing dimension, it also has limitations, like improper handling of high-dimensional data, l

AI-Empowered and a Bio-/Nanoenzyme-Hybrid Multisensors Array toward Precision Diagnosis of Kidney Diseases.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) risk assessment is shifting from centralized instrument-heavy testing to personalized point-of-care evaluation enabled by portable platforms. However, integration of multibiomarker analysis and the deep learning algorithm to improve detection accuracy in CKD is still a persistent goal. Herein, this work has developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-empowered and bio-/nanoenzyme-hybrid multisensors array (AI-BMA) for multidimensional precise diagnosis of early stage CKD. The laser-induced electrochemical sensors array is functionalized by creatinine deaminase (CDI),

AI based prediction of severe exacerbation in Asian bronchiectasis patients using the KMBARC registry.

Classical scoring tools such as the Bronchiectasis Severity Index (BSI) and FACED have shown good performance for predicting adverse outcomes, yet they were developed using European cohorts and may not fully align with Asian clinical characteristics. This study aimed to develop an Asian population–specific artificial intelligence (AI) model for predicting severe acute exacerbations (AEs) in bronchiectasis. A total of 492 patients with 1-year follow-up data from the Korean Multicenter Bronchiectasis Audit and Research Collaboration registry were analyzed. Severe AE was defined as an event requi
