[Prevention, diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis].

Current incidence of tuberculosis (7B) in Japan is 14.4 per 100,000 populations, which is higher than the western countries. Inhalation of TB bacilli is difficult to control except for using N95 respirator in a medical facility. BCG is effective to prevent from serious TB disease especially for children. Latent tuberculosis infection treatment is recommended in order to attain low incidence. Early diagnosis is most critical for prevention. It is important to suspect TB for those having cough more than two weeks and do chest radiograph as well as bacterio logical examinations with good sputum s

Facial Mask-related Acne and Acneiform Eruption During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic: A Case Series.

Use of a facial mask is a necessity during the current pandemic. The associated occlusion with extended daily use can lead to physiological changes in the skin with resultant irritation, itching, and infections. This can lead to exacerbation of pre-existing dermatoses or induction of irritant dermatitis or bacterial folliculitis. We observed several patients with previously controlled acne vulgaris who developed a flare. Also, in those without a history of pre-existing acne, an acneiform eruption was noted. The majority of patients were women who had pre-existing acne and needed to wear a N95

UV-induced release and characterization of dissolved organic matter from disposable face mask layers and polypropylene.

The global use of disposable facemasks (FMs), particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, has raised environmental concerns. However, there is limited understanding of the weathering products and chemical characteristics of dissolved organic matter (DOM) released from disposable FMs, including surgical (SFM), KN95, and N95. This study presents the first ply-specific investigation into the yields and chemical properties of DOM from these facemasks, alongside reference polypropylene (PP) microplastics, under UV-irradiation. All mask layers and PP microbeads showed significant continuous DOM relea

Interhospital transportation of a COVID-19 patient undergoing veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation by helicopter.

Some coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients develop rapidly progressive acute respiratory distress syndrome and require veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (V-V ECMO). A previous study recommended the transfer of ECMO patients to ECMO centers. However, because of the pandemic, a limited number of ECMO centers are available for patient transfer. The safe long-distance interhospital transport of these patients is a concern. To minimize transportation time, helicopter use is a suitable choice. We report the first case of a COVID-19 patient on V-V ECMO, transferred to our ECMO ce
