AIMS: This study describes the generation of a monoclonal antibody designated SM047 which binds to an epitope that is displayed by a multivalent antigen associated with the glycocalyx of ovarian adenocarcinoma cells. The study also investigates SM047 staining in adenocarcinomas of diverse sites in order to determine whether the antibody is specific for ovarian adenocarcinoma and of value in the confirmation of an ovarian origin when the site of primary tumour is unknown.

The aim of this study was to further investigate the immunocytochemical expression of p53, PTEN, Fas, p16, and HPV L1 capsid proteins in cervical smears with low and high grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL and HSIL, respectively). OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the utility of claudin-4 as a pan-carcinoma marker in cell-blocks of effusion specimens and compare results with Ber-Ep4 staining.
METHODS: Effusion cell-blocks (n = 284) were stained for claudin-4 and results compared with Ber-Ep4. Cases included 172 metastatic malignancies (137 adenocarcinomas, 20 small cell lung tumours, eight metastatic melanoma, four squamous cell carcinoma, three urothelial cell carcinoma), 49 benign reactive cases and 63 mesotheliomas.

Using a lectin-peroxidase method, Concanavalin A binding was examined on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded biopsy specimens (n = 143) of the most frequent central nervous system tumours. Lymph node involvement in cat scratch disease is characterized by a granulomatous lymphadenitis with micro-abscesses. Recently, it has been shown that the possible aetiological agent is a micro-organism which stains with some silver stains. In this study 60 lymph nodes were studied from 60 patients, using a modified Dieterlé's stain. In 40 cases (66%) rod-shaped bacilli with rounded extremities were observed. 1,014 faecal specimens were collected from 4 hospitals in Nanjing to investigate the infection of Cryptosporidium. The free surface of the rat peritoneum was covered with a rich negative-charged substance which is distinctly stained with cationic colloidal iron (pH 1.5). Amelanotic vulvar melanoma is a rare type of malignant melanoma. This paper describes a case of an asymptomatic ulcerated nodule 20 mm in size. Russell body gastritis (RBG) is a rare gastric inflammatory lesion characterized by dense infiltration of plasma cells containing Russell bodies (RBs) known as Mott cells. Here, we report a case of RBG that showed resolution 2 months after Helicobacter pylori eradication. A gastric biopsy revealed numerous eosinophilic globular RBs and signet ring cell-like Mott cells.
