Seven men with unilateral nipple discharge underwent galactography. In two patients the diagnosis was carcinoma, two were benign papillomas, one was a breast abscess, and two were ductal ectasia. Galactography is useful in men and women with nipple discharge, especially when the discharge is bloody and there is no palpable tumor. The precise location of an intraductal lesion through the use of galactography guides the biopsy and makes conservative surgery easier.

The use of nipple shields when breastfeeding has given rise to concerns about possible harmful effects. A study was carried out to examine this issue. A lactation consultant's (LC) patients using nipple shields were compared with her other patients who were not using nipple shields, and an incidental sample of all postnatal breastfeeding women. The three groups were compared on discharge from hospital and at 3 months. Breastfeeding rates and problems (nipple trauma and mastitis) were studied: on discharge from hospital the LC patients who were not using nipple shields were significantly less l

BACKGROUND Epidermal inclusion cysts rarely develop in the breast. The cysts that do develop within the breast typically present as cutaneous or subcutaneous cysts. They more rarely present in a subareolar location or in a ruptured state. Thus far, 5 cases of ruptured epidermal inclusion cysts in subareolar locations have been reported in the English literature. Furthermore, clinical presentation of nipple discharge is rare in epidermal inclusion cysts of the breast; only 4 such cases has been reported. CASE REPORT A 58-year-old female presented with a 1-month history of bloody discharge from

A 26-year-old female with a palpable mass and progressively darker itchy area in her left nipple was admitted to hospital. The left nipple surface showed furfuraceous desquamation and bloody discharge, with a 1.0×0.7×0.4 cm area of grayish-brown pigmentation in the ipsilateral nipple and areola. Surgical resection of the primary skin tumor and biopsy of the partial mass in the middle of the nipple were undertaken since color Doppler ultrasonography and dermoscopy were unable to make a differential diagnosis. We thus report the first case of a nipple adenoma with concomitant ipsilateral nipple

BACKGROUND: Nipple adenoma is a rare and benign type of breast tumour. Because of the lack of proper understanding, it is easily overlooked and misdiagnosed by doctors. The aim of the study is to improve clinicians' awareness of the disease.
METHODS: Evaluation of the complaints such as blood discharge or nodules on the nipple was done with physical examination, ultrasonography and cytologic evaluation (discharge cytology and curettage cytology). Resection of part of the nipple containing the tumour was performed in 11 of the 12 patients included in this study.
RESULTS: Physical examination

A case of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) with microinvasion arising in a radial scar of the breast is presented. A 57-year-old woman visited our hospital with bloody discharge from her left nipple. There were no abnormal findings on cytology, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) level of nipple discharge was <500 ng/ml, and mammograms were normal. After 2 years of careful periodic follow-up, spiculation without a central core appeared on mammograms. The CEA level of the nipple discharge increased to 1,000 ng/ml. Ductgraphy showed a connection between the duct with the discharge and the center of th

Neuroendocrine ductal carcinoma in situ(NE-DCIS)is a unique subtype of ductal carcinoma in situ(DCIS)that is not described in the general rules for clinical and pathological recording of breast cancer. NE-DCIS is described as an unusual variant of DCIS in the 2012 World Health Organization(WHO)classification. The chief complaint in NE-DCIS is hemorrhagic nipple discharge. The histological characteristics of NE-DCIS are solid growth of cancer cells with granular and spindle-shaped nuclei. Histologically, NE-DCIS is suggestive of low malignancy but a poor prognosis of neuroendocrine carcinoma of

Actinomyces neuii is a gram-positive, non-branching, rod-shaped bacterium that rarely causes infection in humans. To our knowledge, we report the first case of primary bilateral breast actinomycosis caused by A. neuii in an immunocompetent male patient. A 40-year-old man presented with chronic bilateral green nipple discharge. Despite a prior left breast abscess drainage and six weeks of oral penicillin V, symptoms persisted. Culture of the nipple discharge identified A. neuii. The patient's history included nipple piercings, and a mammogram confirmed the abscess. After failure of penicillin V

Duct ectasia consists of dilation of the mammary ducts and is clinically manifested as nipple discharge, which is more commonly multiductal, bilateral, and colored. To identify clinical factors that might be related to duct ectasia. A case-control study was carried out on a population of 150 patients divided into two groups. Group 1 (the experimental group) comprised 100 patients with multiductal, bilateral, and colored nipple discharge, clinically representing the nipple secretion of duct ectasia. Group 2 (the control group) was composed of 50 patients without nipple discharge. The odds ratio

Nipple secretion is a common condition; it can occur in men and women, and be uni- or bilateral. It is related to hormonal changes, physical stimulation, intracerebral processes and certain drugs, and it is divided into three types: galactorrhoea, clear/bloody or viscous. Only the clear/bloody type is an indication of breast malignancy. Malignancy should always be ruled out in the presence of breast tumours. Treatment is determined by aetiology, and can vary from patient education, medications to surgery.

Herein, we report the use of microdochectomy for neuroendocrine ductal carcinoma in situ( NE-DCIS). The patient was 44-year-old woman who experienced spontaneous nipple discharge for 5 years. We were unable to detect the origin of the nipple discharge by computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), mammography, ductal endoscopy, or ultrasonography. Subsequently, endoscopy-assisted microdochectomy was performed under local anesthesia. Pathological examination of the resected specimen led to a diagnosis of NE-DCIS positive for estrogen and progesterone receptors and negative for H

BACKGROUND: Nipple adenoma is a very uncommon, benign neoplasm that involves the nipple. A palpable mass of the nipple associated with nipple discharge and erosion or ulceration is the common clinical presentation. Generally, complete surgical excision of the nipple is the main treatment, alternative therapeutic methods such as Mohs micrographic surgery, nipple splitting enucleation, and cryotherapy can be considered. Disorders of the breast in young women are generally benign. Even if the management during pregnancy is usually conservative and surgical excision is reserved for very strong mal

The authors describe the way of operating the selective galactophorectomy and discuss the indications. Each pathological nipple discharge may reveal a carcinoma. The clinical characteristics of the discharge, the results of the cytology, of the mammography and the galactography help to come to a diagnosis. This can only be confirmed after a thorough histological examination of the involved duct. Selective galactophorectomy is a simple operation that hardly leaves any scars. According to the authors, this method has a real advantage to find the diagnosis and to treat pathological nipple dischar

INTRODUCTION AND SIGNIFICANCE: Intraductal papilloma (IDP) is a benign breast lesion characterized by a small, delicate wart-like growth found within the milk ducts. Typically located centrally behind the nipple, IDP often presents with a serous, serosanguinous, or bloody discharge from the nipple, making it a common cause of abnormal nipple discharge. Differential diagnosis is crucial as it can be mistaken for other conditions such as pigmented Paget's disease and pigmented basal cell carcinoma.
CASE PRESENTATION: This case study depicts a 35-year-old female with a painless, pigmented mass o

The authors report 5 cases of in situ intraductal breast carcinoma (IDC) revealed or complicated by a clinical inflammatory syndrome. These cases showed some common features with other IDCs, such as mammographic signs and histologic forms of epitheliamatous proliferation, but were also characterized by clinical inflammatory signs different from those of rapidly developing "inflammatory" cancer, frequent nipple discharge, frequent positive results in bacteriologic examinations of nipple discharge and the role of cytologic studies of discharge in determining a definite diagnosis of carcinoma. Syringomatous adenoma of the nipple (SAN) is a rare benign lesion which often presents as a subareolar mass with associated nipple shape changes including pruritus, crusting, and discharge It is thought that syringomatous tumors arise from eccrine glands of the nipple and areola. Due to its locally infiltrative growth pattern the main differential is with low-grade adenosquamous carcinoma which requires more aggressive surgical treatment. Syringomatous adenoma of the nipple can recur, and therefore complete local excision is recommended. We present a case of a syringomatous adenoma of the nipp

Nipple discharge is a rare but possible occurrence after nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM). This study presents the first case of galactorrhea in a female patient after NSM. Although milky discharge due to physiologic lactation related to pregnancy is more common, galactorrhea is still possible and should be worked up appropriately to ensure that all breast tissue has been removed and that there are no other more worrisome causes.

BACKGROUND: Nipple fissure is a common disorder during breastfeeding. With high prevalence of nipple fissures and its impacts on breastfeeding, as well as the existence of evidence in favor of the application of peppermint as an antiinflammatory and antiinfection herb, the purpose of this study is to determine the effect of Menthol essence on improving nipple fissures in the primiparous breastfeeding women.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was conducted using a clinical trial method. Samples were divided randomly into two groups of 55 women. The women in the peppermint group applied four dro

The nipple and areola are pigmented areas of modified skin that connect with the underlying gland of the breast via ducts. The fairly common congenital anomalies of the nipple include inversion, clefts, and supernumerary nipples. The anatomy of the nipple areolar complex is discussed as a foundation to review anatomical variants, and the physiologic development of the nipple, including changes in puberty and pregnancy, as well as the basis of normal physiologic discharge, are addressed. Skin conditions affecting the nipple include eczema, which, while similar to eczema occurring elsewhere on t
