Protection of mouse bone marrow against radiation-induced chromosome damage and stem cell death by the ocimum flavonoids orientin and vicenin.

In a previous study, orientin and vicenin, the water-soluble plant flavonoids, protected mice against radiation lethality (Uma Devi et al., Radiat. Res. 151, 74-78, 1999). To study bone marrow protection, adult Swiss mice were exposed to 0-6 Gy 60Co gamma rays 30 min after an intraperitoneal injection of 50 microg/ kg body weight of orientin/vicenin. Chromosomal aberrations in bone marrow were studied at 24 h postirradiation. Stem cell survival was studied using the exogenous spleen colony (CFU-S) assay. Radiation produced a dose-dependent increase in aberrant cells as well as in the yield of

Optimization and Formulation of Nanoemulsion Ex-tracts Basil Leaves (Ocimum basilicum L.) and Testing of Anti-Acne Activity against Propionibacterium acnes.

Acne vulgaris is a common dermatological condition that is often worsened by hot and humid climates, such as those in Indonesia. These conditions promote the growth of Propionibacterium acnes, a bacterium involved in acne pathogenesis. Long-term use of topical antibiotics may lead to resistance, highlighting the need for natural alternatives. This study aimed to formulate and optimize a nanoemulsion of basil leaf extract (Ocimum basilicum L.) and evaluate its antibacterial activity against P. acnes. The nanoemulsion was prepared by spontaneous emulsification using Tween 80 as the surfactant an

Influence of exogenously applied k-carrageenan at various concentrations on plant growth, phytochemical content, macronutrients, and essential oils of Ocimum basilicum.

Food safety and security are now among the most urgent problems to be resolved as the world's population continues to grow. Intensive agriculture is required to meet the demands of a growing population and guarantee greater agricultural yield. Chemical pesticides and fertilizers are an essential part of intensive farming. Their extensive use accelerates the depletion of other important and minor nutrients, resulting in poor soil fertility and nutritional imbalance. There are serious health and environmental hazards associated with several of these hazardous agricultural chemicals. In context,

Biosynthesis and characterization of Ocimum sanctum green silver nanoparticles and unravelling their enhanced anti-filarial activity through a HRAMS proteomics approach.

The available anti-filarial medications are largely ineffective against adult filarial worms. Also, these drugs have several drawbacks such as toxicity and development of resistance owing to long-term usage. Green nanomedicine may offer better solutions for Lymphatic Filariasis treatment due to its tiny size, biocompatibility, and better penetration at considerably lower costs with higher therapeutic efficacy. In the present study, Ocimum sanctum silver nanoparticles (OSAgNPs) were bio-synthesized and their anti-filarial efficacy was evaluated against adult filarial parasites. The green nanopa
