Uterine leiomyomas are the most common benign tumors of the uterine smooth muscle. The latest FIGO classification, considering both their location and the degree of ingrowth into the uterine muscle, distinguishes eight classes of fibroids [1]. Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) develop in the digestive tract, mainly in the stomach, small intestine, colon, or esophagus. However, primary tumors with the same pathologic features as GISTs have been reported to occur outside of the digestive tract and are called extragastrointestinal stromal tumor (EGIST). We herein report a rare case of EGIST arising from the greater omentum in a patient with abdominal pain caused by intraperitoneal bleeding from the tumor.

Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) is an uncommon soft-tissue sarcoma that occurs primarily in the extremities and rarely involves the retroperitoneum and abdomen. A 63-year-old man was admitted to the emergency room because of epigastric pain. Computed tomography revealed a large heterogeneous enhanced mass originating from the omentum with hemoperitoneum. The patient underwent laparoscopic omental mass excision and hematoma evacuation. Histological examination of the resected tumor revealed MFH. This case was therefore omental MFH presenting with hemoperitoneum.

The graft of omental pedicle is known to be clinically effective for wound healing and revascularization of ischemic organs. We found that bovine greater omentum contained growth factor that was capable of stimulating the proliferation of bovine aortic endothelial cells. OBJECTIVE: The diagnostic value of CT window width technique in primary omentum infarction was evaluated by this study.
METHODS: The abdominal CT data of 32 patients with clinically diagnosed abdominal omentum infarction were retrospectively selected and analyzed. BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: A non-circumferential defect of the biliary system is occasionally faced at surgery for biliobiliary fistula. The condition represents an uncommon but important complication of gallstone disease. Although direct closure and patch repair using the gallbladder cuff are recommended as first-line treatments, these procedures are sometimes technically difficult in the presence of severe inflammation. The case of a 37-year-old man in whom a massive hemoperitoneum developed a few hours after running is described. The patient disclaimed any trauma and clearly noted that symptoms appeared after running. Findings at laparoscopy showed that the bleeding was caused by the rupture of adhesions between the omentum and left inguinal abdominal wall. Between 1985 and 1993, six patients underwent emergency operation at the Department of General Surgery, Essen University Hospitals, for a secondary aorto-duodenal fistula. We report two cases of lesser omentum infarction with suggestive findings in esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). Both patients were admitted to our hospital who presented with upper abdominal pain accompanied by signs of peritoneal irritation. EGD was performed to rule out gastroduodenal ulcer. No mucosal erythema and ulceration were observed, but we observed two signs suggesting lesser omentum infarction.
