Quantitative analysis of digital subtraction angiography using optical flow method on occlusive cerebrovascular disease.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Traditional digital subtraction angiography (DSA) provides detailed spatial resolution in the treatment of cerebrovascular disease. However, the available temporal information is often underutilized. The purpose of this study is to use deformable image registration with DSA to quantify the hemodynamic improvement of intracranial vessels after carotid stenting. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eighteen patients with carotid stenosis (greater than 70% degree by NASCET criteria) were treated using percutaneous transluminal angioplasty with stents. Carotid angiograms of the anterior

Effects of Physical Activity Level on Microsaccade Dynamics During Optic Flow Stimulation in Adults with Type 2 Diabetes.

Background: Microsaccades are small fixational eye movements tightly linked to attention and oculomotor control. Although diabetes mellitus is associated with retinal and neural alterations that may impair visuomotor function, the influence of physical activity on microsaccade behaviour in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remains unknown. This study investigated whether habitual physical activity modulates microsaccade characteristics during fixation under different optic flow stimuli. Given that optic flow engages motion processing and gaze stabilisation pathways that may be a

Magnetoencephalographic brain activity evoked by the optic-flow task is correlated with β-amyloid burden and parahippocampal atrophy.

Visuospatial perception is often impaired in people with Alzheimer's disease (AD). Because visuospatial information is thought to be processed in the visual dorsal stream, it is believed that brain activities in the dorsal stream will be altered in AD patients. In this study, we investigated whether regional brain activity related to visuospatial perception were associated with AD progression markers. An optic-flow task, which activates the dorsal stream associated with visuospatial perception, was performed, and the brain activities evoked by the task were evaluated using magnetoencephalograp

Effect of expansive optic flow and lateral motion parallax on depth estimation with normal and artificially reduced acuity.

When an observer moves in space, the retinal projection of a stationary object either expands if the motion is toward the object or shifts horizontally if the motion contains a lateral component. This study examined the impact of expansive optic flow and lateral motion parallax on the accuracy of depth perception for observers with normal or artificially reduced acuity and asked whether any benefit is due to the continuous motion or to the discrete object image displacement. Stationary participants viewed a virtual room on a computer screen. They used an on-screen slider to estimate the depth

Compressive optic neuropathy caused by a flow-diverter-occluded-but-still-growing supraclinoid internal carotid aneurysm: illustrative case.

BACKGROUND: Flow diverter stenting is an effective treatment for large proximal internal carotid artery (ICA) aneurysms. Cranial neuropathy caused by the mass effect of the aneurysm usually subsides over time. However, a new onset of compressive optic neuropathy after successful flow diverter stenting of a large proximal ICA aneurysm is seldom reported. OBSERVATIONS: A 57-year-old woman had a right supraclinoid ICA aneurysm (approximately 17 mm) on magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) in a health checkup. She received intervention with the Pipeline embolization device. Six months later, she s

Self-reported navigation ability is associated with optic flow-sensitive regions' functional connectivity patterns during visual path integration.

INTRODUCTION: Spatial navigation is a complex cognitive skill that varies between individuals, and the mechanisms underlying this variability are not clear. Studying simpler components of spatial navigation may help illuminate factors that contribute to variation in this complex skill; path integration is one such component. Optic flow provides self-motion information while moving through an environment and is sufficient for path integration. This study aims to investigate whether self-reported navigation ability is related to information transfer between optic flow-sensitive (OF-sensitive) co

Integrating Optical Feedback Alignment and Fluidic Control for Multiphase Flow-Assisted In Situ 3D Printing.

Additive manufacturing is transforming how microfluidic devices are prototyped and fabricated. Among various 3D printing methods, stereolithography (SLA) has become a dominant technique for microfluidics due to its high resolution and design flexibility, with widespread use in lab-on-a-chip applications. However, intrinsic limitations of SLA printing, such as challenges related to multi-material integration and microstructure fabrication in enclosed channels, continue to hinder the development of more complex microsystems, especially for analytical separation and tissue engineering application

Perioperative diffuse optical imaging of blood flow distributions for porcine skin flap viability assessment.

BACKGROUND: Oxytocin is used for initiating uterine contraction and preventing postpartum hemorrhage during caesarean delivery. Using a lower dosage of oxytocin may lower the risk of adverse effects while still being effective in stimulating initial uterine contraction. We aimed to compare the effectiveness and side effects of the standard 10 IU bolus of oxytocin with those of a 5 IU bolus during caesarean delivery. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We enrolled women in a randomized, double-blind, study comparing intravenous injections of high-dose (10 IU) and low-dose (5 IU) oxytocin administered after

SiamFSA: Optical Flow-driven Structural-aware Siamese Network for Ultrasound Videos Landmark Tracking.

Accurate anatomical landmark tracking within ultrasound video is a crucial analysis task with many clinical applications. However, the non-rigid deformations caused by motion and probe extrusion lead to intra-object semantic and scale variations, resulting in inaccurate landmark tracking. Additionally, the inevitable intrinsic speckle noise and imaging artifacts exacerbate the dissimilarity of targets, further complicating the landmark tracking. In this study, we propose a novel Optical Flow-driven Structural-aware Siamese Network, SiamFSA, for landmark tracking in continuous ultrasound images

Wearable fiber-free optical sensor for continuous monitoring of neonatal cerebral blood flow and oxygenation.

BACKGROUND: Unstable cerebral hemodynamics places preterm infants at high risk of brain injury. We adapted an innovative, fiber-free, wearable diffuse speckle contrast flow-oximetry (DSCFO) device for continuous monitoring of both cerebral blood flow (CBF) and oxygenation in neonatal piglets and preterm infants. METHODS: DSCFO uses two small laser diodes as focused-point and a tiny CMOS camera as a high-density two-dimensional detector to detect spontaneous spatial fluctuation of diffuse laser speckles for CBF measurement, and light intensity attenuations for cerebral oxygenation measurement.

DIO-SLAM: A Dynamic RGB-D SLAM Method Combining Instance Segmentation and Optical Flow.

Feature points from moving objects can negatively impact the accuracy of Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (VSLAM) algorithms, while detection or semantic segmentation-based VSLAM approaches often fail to accurately determine the true motion state of objects. To address this challenge, this paper introduces DIO-SLAM: Dynamic Instance Optical Flow SLAM, a VSLAM system specifically designed for dynamic environments. Initially, the detection thread employs YOLACT (You Only Look At CoefficienTs) to distinguish between rigid and non-rigid objects within the scene. Subsequently, the optic

Co-registered optical coherence tomography and X-ray angiography for the prediction of fractional flow reserve.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) stands as the leading global cause of mortality, and coronary artery disease (CAD) has the highest prevalence, contributing to 42% of these fatalities. Recognizing the constraints inherent in the anatomical assessment of CAD, Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) has emerged as a pivotal functional diagnostic metric. Herein, we assess the potential of employing an ensemble approach with deep neural networks (DNN) to predict invasively measured Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) using raw anatomical data extracted from both optical coherence tomography (OCT) and X-ray coronary a
