OBJECTIVES: Maxillofacial morphology and malocclusion are related to maximum occlusal force (MOF). Although it has been reported that MOF was related to handgrip strength (HS), the relationships between maxillofacial morphology/malocclusion and HS remain unclear. This study aimed to examine the relationships between maxillofacial morphology, malocclusion and HS.
SETTING AND SAMPLE POPULATION: Eighty-five women with malocclusion, aged 18-40 years, were selected.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Lateral cephalometric radiographs (SNA, SNB, ANB, mandibular plane-FH, and gonial angles, overjet and overbit

OBJECTIVES: Anterior open bite can be treated non-surgically via molar intrusion using temporary skeletal devices (TAD). Clear aligner therapy (CAT) is recognized as a viable therapeutic modality for non-extraction treatment of adults with mild open bite. This study aimed to compare the treatment effect and mechanisms of open bite closure between patients treated with braces and TADs double arch intrusion and those treated with CAT. Treatment success at T3 was based on 1- positive overbite on ceph; 2- Change in the vertical dimension 3- post treatment POSI score equal to zero.

It is known that some of the deciduous reversed bite cases are corrected spontaneously by themselves. No decisive conclusion, however, has been achieved so far as to what morphological characteristics the self corrected cases have. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to determine whether the difference between the self corrected group (n) and the non-self corrected group (r) exists at their initial examination or if it occurs as a result of changes in occlusion. The materials used in this study were the serial plaster casts of 29 Japanese girls with the deciduous reversed bite at their f

BACKGROUND: A severe deep bite, when combined with an impacted mandibular second molar, presents a complex clinical challenge. Managing this condition requires not only precise control over tooth movements but also careful consideration of the relationship between the impacted tooth and its adjacent teeth. Orthodontists must conduct a thorough assessment of the patient's condition to develop a rational and feasible treatment plan.
CASE PRESENTATION: This report discusses a case involving a 24-year-old female patient who requested an orthodontic consultation of "anterior deep overbite", with a

BACKGROUND: Anterior disc displacement (ADD) is the most common type of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) internal derangement and may lead to condylar resorption (CR) during the adolescence period, but the specific malocclusion associated with ADD and CR remains unclear.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the malocclusion associated with TMJ ADD and CR in adolescents.
METHODS: This cross-sectional study included a clinical examination of adolescent patients aged 11-19 years. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was used to diagnose both TMJ ADD and CR. Occlusal measurements were obtained an

PURPOSE: To determine the prevalence of malocclusion in Portuguese preschool children, to characterise occlusion in the deciduous dentition, and to study the relationship between malocclusion, sex, and age.
METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 3-6 years old children, from 25 randomly selected kindergartens from the Lisbon district. Data were collected through an oral examination. Malocclusion was defined as the presence of any type of occlusion anomaly (anterior crossbite, edge-to-edge, increased overjet, open bite, deep overbite, posterior crossbite, scissor bite), spacing anomaly (c

This report reviews bite plate therapy and describes several variations of bite plates. Bite plates may be useful as an adjunct to periodontic and orthodontic therapy. They may be used as a diagnostic appliance, to take mobile teeth out of trauma by disarticulating them, to allow teeth to extrude and shallow out associated osseous deformities, and to eliminate the superimposed occlusal trauma that may be caused by the parafunctional habits that can develop during orthodontic tooth movement. The change in vertical position of the dentition and the decrease in overbite are primarily due to erupt

OBJECTIVES: An anterior bite plane (ABP) is an orthodontic appliance that prevents posterior teeth from making contact. This appliance's functional concept is to reduce muscle activity, overcome deep overbite, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders (TMD). However, ABP treatment for malocclusion frequently results in unfavorable reversible and irreversible long-term effects. This problem presents difficulties for dentists in developing an appropriate treatment modification plan in order to achieve the best results. As a result, the goal of this study is to observe the effects of different
