The present study is anchored in the theoretical framework of ecological systems. Its objective is to investigate the underlying mechanisms through which negative parenting styles exhibited by parents influence the proactive personality of their offspring. The study will focus on the mediating effects of positive coping strategies and the moderating influences of teacher-student support. This study draws on survey data collected from a sample of 695 Chinese university students to empirically test the proposed hypotheses. The results demonstrated that: Initial findings indicated that parental r

Parent-child conflict is a key source of parental stress, and mindful parenting may serve as a protective moderator. However, little is known about how these associations unfold at both the within-person (daily) and between-person levels. This study examined how daily fluctuations and individual differences in parent-child conflict were associated with parental stress, and whether baseline mindful parenting buffered these links. Seventy-three Chinese parents (M = 37.89, SD = 3.62, 86.3% mothers) of children aged 5-6 years completed a baseline measure of mindful parenting and a 14-day diary on

Parents involved with child protective services (CPS) often face stressors that compromise their parenting; thus, it is critical to identify sources of resilience at multiple ecological levels. This study leveraged cross-sectional data from a study of CPS-involved parent-child dyads (N = 129). Most parents identified as having a minoritized racial/ethnic identity and as having low income. Parent responsive involvement, constructive discipline, and problematic discipline were coded from observations of parent-child interactions when children were approximately 4 years old (M = 4.19 years, SD =

When parent-accused child sexual abuse allegations co-occur with parent conflict, concerns arise that the allegations are fabricated by the child's non-accused parent. However, no prior research has directly examined how parent conflict influenced credibility in parent-accused child sexual abuse cases. There are also discrepant research findings on how accused parent gender and decision-makers' gender-based beliefs influenced allegation credibility in parent-accused abuse and conflict cases. We examined how parent conflict (low, high), accused parent (father, mother, mother's boyfriend), and p

BACKGROUND: Parents raising children with Learning Disabilities (LDs) often face multiple challenges and high levels of parenting stress, especially in societies with intense academic competitions. Mindful parenting (MP) is an emerging approach that brings mindful awareness to parent-child interactions and is found effective in reducing parenting stress in various parent populations.
AIMS: This study examined the effectivenesss of an 8-week online MP program on Chinese parents of children with LDs.
METHODS AND PROCEDURES: A MP program was adapted and implemented in an online format with 69 p

Romantic relationships are normative in adolescence, and parents can play a role in supporting or restricting adolescents' romantic experiences. This study examined parents' involvement in adolescents' romantic relationships in a sample of 226 Mexican-origin families. Findings indicated that, on average, mothers were more supportive of adolescents' romantic relationships than fathers, and parents were more supportive of daughters than of sons. Fathers' (but not mothers') Mexican cultural orientations were associated with greater restrictions on adolescents' romantic relationships. For mothers

OBJECTIVES: In the present era, parents frequently stigmatize themselves for their children's negative behaviors and inadequate social skills. Parents' self-stigma (PSS) may lead to a decrease in parental self-efficacy and quality of marital and family life. In light of these reasons, the principal objective of this study to assess the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the PSS Scale (PSSS) as developed by Eaton et al. (2019) and to investigate the indirect effect that parenting stress has on the relationship between PSS and parental self-efficacy.
METHODS: We collected data f

Families affected by HIV/AIDS in the developing world experience higher risks of psychosocial problems than nonaffected families. Positive parenting behavior may buffer against the negative impact of child AIDS-orphanhood and caregiver AIDS-sickness on child well-being. Although there is substantial literature regarding the predictors of parenting behavior in Western populations, there is insufficient evidence on HIV/AIDS as a risk factor for poor parenting in low- and middle-income countries. This paper examines the relationship between HIV/AIDS and positive parenting by comparing HIV/AIDS-af

OBJECTIVES: The diagnosis of CHD not only affects the patient but also their entire environment, including parents, causing significant alterations in their mental health. This study was to assess the levels of anxiety and depression in parents of children with CHD at different stages of the disease.
METHODS: The PMNCC and PMNCR questionnaires were administered to parents of children with CHD to measure levels of state anxiety (STAI-E) and trait anxiety (STAI-R).
RESULTS: A total of 459 questionnaires were administered. For the state anxiety questionnaire (STAI-E), the mean score was 36, wit

BACKGROUND: Spirituality in the field of neonatology begins with the care of pregnant women at risk of premature birth. This existential threat at the very beginning of life inevitably leads to a need for spiritual support. One major focus of care in prematurity is on building a bond between parents and child, which is fundamental for the child's further development.
OBJECTIVES: To identify the spiritual needs of parents in perinatal care and to demonstrate a possible way to meeting these needs.
METHODS: This work is based on case reports, identification of topics, and a systematic literatur

While Hamilton's rule has traditionally attributed non-reproductive phenotypes to kin selection and altruistic behavior, we argue that infertile offspring can emerge through selfish parental resource allocation strategies without necessitating offspring altruism. By developing a model incorporating reproductive budget constraints, per-offspring investment costs, and fertility parameters, we derive the conditions under which producing infertile helpers optimizes parental fitness. The model predicts infertile phenotypes become evolutionarily advantageous when total offspring number exceeds a thr

AIMS: Secondary trauma is recognised as one of the negative effects for professionals working with people that have experienced trauma. Research has demonstrated secondary trauma in foster carers but little research has explored trauma symptoms within adoptive parents, facing the emotional impact of parenting a child with adverse early experiences. This study aimed to document the rates of primary and secondary trauma symptoms in adoptive parents. It further explores the association between the extent of current behavioural and emotional challenges and the extent of the child's pre-adoption ad

INTRODUCTION: Emotional neglect means that the child's emotional and developmental needs are not fulfilled by the parents or other caregivers. Adverse childhood events (ACEs) are a risk factor for mental health problems and impaired parenting skills. The objective here was to examine whether parents' ACEs increase the child's risk of experiencing emotional neglect.
METHODS: The participants in the present study were members of the Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1986 (NFBC1986). Emotional neglect experiences were measured in 190 members of this cohort by means of the Trauma and Distress Scale (

This case study about an infant with epidermolysis bullosa and his fourteen-year-old mother involves pediatric genomic testing and concerns about the adolescent parent's decision-making capacity. Four commentaries explore ethics issues in the case, including the following challenges: The current ethics guidelines regarding informed decision-making for genomic testing and return of results have been relatively silent on how to involve parents who are minors in decision-making on behalf of their children. This lack of guidance can be particularly difficult for physicians when genetic test result

Substance use disorders (SUDs) have been a priority public health concern for decades, with most recent conversations focusing on the opioid use disorder (OUD) epidemic. Children of parents with OUD have been impacted through poverty, violence, neglect, and emotional and physical abuse. Although treatment programs may address the family and parental role, few focus on the children. Without building resiliency in a child's mental and physical health, the far-reaching impact of the opioid epidemic will continue. The goal of the current literature review was to critique available intervention pro

CONTEXT: Children of alcoholics (COAs) are children who have grown up in families in which either one or both parents are alcoholic. The interplay of several factors such as environmental, cognitive, and genetic vulnerability has been linked to the psychopathology among COAs.
AIMS: To assess psychiatric morbidity in COAs and to compare these children with the children of nonalcoholic parents.
SETTING AND DESIGN: This cross-sectional study was conducted on children of outpatients and inpatients of a tertiary health-care center in Central India, for 18 months.

Dyadic developmental psychotherapy (DDP) is an attachment-focused therapy frequently used with adoptive and foster families. While the evidence base for DDP is building, national guidance has called for further trials and qualitative evidence. This study aimed to understand the experience of adoptive parents who have completed DDP therapy. Semi-structured interviews with 12 adoptive parents were analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. Four superordinate themes were identified: (1) increased understanding, (2) 'It's a different method of parenting generally', (3) the DDP journe
