Effect of health education on patients' beliefs about glaucoma and compliance.

A pretest-posttest control group experimental design (n = 100) was used to determine the effectiveness of an interactive patient education program compared with a didactic approach for persons with primary open angle glaucoma at a major specialist eye hospital in England. This study used a questionnaire with a knowledge test to explore patients' glaucoma knowledge, a series of vignettes to explore understanding of compliance and health motivation, and health locus of control scales to assess the effect of these variables. The improved posttest results (P = .000) suggest that patients benefit f

Compliance and noncompliance in patients with a functioning renal transplant: a multicenter study.

BACKGROUND: Noncompliance with medication is a major cause of renal allograft failure among adult renal transplant patients. We summarize previous studies of noncompliance and report results of a large, multicenter survey designed to identify variables that (1) affect the likelihood of compliance with immunosuppressive medication regimens and (2) distinguish among noncompliant patients. METHODS: Questionnaires were distributed to 2500 patients at 56 U.S. transplant centers. Compliance was determined by patient responses to questions concerning whether, within the previous 4 weeks, one or more

[Improved eyedrop administration and compliance in glaucoma patients. A clinical study].

BACKGROUND: Poor compliance can be dangerous to successful medical treatment of glaucoma. Among other things one reason for non-compliance represents the inability of the patients to place drops in the eye appropriately. Therefore information regarding the patients ability to administer an eyedrop safely are a prerequisite to determining a therapy scheme which ensures the compliance of glaucoma patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: 100 glaucoma patients on medical therapy who first presented in the outpatient glaucoma clinic of the University Eye Hospital of Würzburg were examined by standardised q

[Acceptability, compliance and tolerance of daily polychemotherapy by leprosy patients in Guadeloupe].

From January 1980 to December 1984, 418 leprosy patients were treated in Guadeloupe with a daily multiple drug regimen using rifampin as an essential drug. The analysis of the data collected during this period of times gives the possibility of estimating the patient's approval, tolerance and attendance to this treatment. The approval is satisfactory in new cases of leprosy and in ancient cases relapsed under dapsone monotherapy but less in inactive ancient patients already treated with dapsone monotherapy. Attendance of the 418 patients to the multiple drug regimen is satisfactory too and simi

Teaching home parenteral nutrition to patients with limited compliance skills.

Information gathered from psychological and behavioral assessment procedures was used to select a teaching approach for two home parenteral nutrition patients with limited abilities to learn--and therefore to comply with--their regimens. A "behavior shaping" procedure, involving the simplification of complex home parenteral nutrition tasks, resulted in significantly improved performance by both patients. Results suggest that these procedures may be applied to other home parenteral nutrition patients, including those without apparent skill deficits.

Evaluating Patient Compliance With Woodcast and Thermoplast Splints After Thumb Carpometacarpal Arthroplasty: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: This study evaluated the efficacy of woodcast (WC) versus thermoplastic (TP) splints for postoperative immobilization following carpometacarpal (CMC) joint suspensionplasty. The hypothesis was that WC splints would provide improved efficacy and compliance compared with TP splints, while also reducing waste generation. METHODS: A prospective, randomized controlled trial enrolled 26 patients, all older than 18 years old, undergoing CMC joint suspensionplasty. Participants were randomized to receive postoperative splinting with either a WC or TP splint. Exclusion criteria included ad

Examining Statewide Opioid Prescribing Limits and Prescription Drug Monitoring Program Mandates: Provider Compliance and Patient Outcomes.

INTRODUCTION: In response to the opioid crisis, Colorado enacted Senate Bill 18-022, which limits initial opioid prescriptions to 7 days for opioid-naïve patients and mandates prescription drug monitoring program review before a second prescription. This study evaluates provider adherence to these mandates and associated patient outcomes. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted using linked electronic health record and prescription drug monitoring program data from a large academic-affiliated healthcare system in Colorado. Adult opioid-naïve patients (aged 18-89 years) who receive

Audiological Performance, Complications, and Compliance of the ADHEAR Bone Conduction Device in a Paediatric Patient Cohort.

INTRODUCTION: The ADHEAR is a non-surgical bone conduction device that makes use of an adhesive adapter. While clinical trials have demonstrated its efficacy with regard to audiological performance, safety, and compliance, data on real-world paediatric cohorts are scarce. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study analysed data from paediatric patients fitted with ADHEAR at a tertiary centre between January 2017 and September 2024. Baseline characteristics such as hearing loss aetiology were recorded. Long-term free-field aided and unaided warble-tone audiometry was performed within a subsample

Pectus carinatum: the effects of orthotic bracing on pulmonary function and gradual compression on patient compliance.

OBJECTIVES: The treatment of pectus carinatum (PC) deformity has been considered to be operative. Some authors have shown that postoperative pulmonary function is worsened. They have suggested that compromised chest wall expansion secondary to surgery leads to compromised pulmonary function. Several authors have advocated an orthotic brace for the treatment of PC. Pulmonary functions after orthotic brace treatment have not been investigated. METHODS: Between April 2006 and October 2012, 61 patients presented with PC. Orthotic braces allowing gradual compression were prepared according to the

Impact of Postoperative Instruction Delivery Methods on Patient Compliance After Minor Oral Surgeries: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: It has been demonstrated that giving precise postoperative instructions reduces the possibility of adverse events after surgery. Adherence to postoperative instructions during recovery is impacted by patient comprehension, which is influenced by the approach of instruction delivery. This systematic review's main goal was to critically assess the available data regarding the association between the methods of introducing postoperative instructions and patients' compliance after minor oral surgeries. METHODS: In accordance with the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interve

Partial Weight-Bearing after Lower Extremity Surgery: A Review of Current Standards, Innovations, and Patient Compliance.

Partial weight bearing (PWB) is a cornerstone of post-operative rehabilitation after lower extremity surgery (LES), balancing mechanical stimulation needed for bone, tendon, and cartilage healing with protection against excessive load that precipitates malunion, non-union, or joint dehiscence. This narrative review synthesizes literature to clarify current indications for PWB, evaluate traditional and emerging methods for prescribing and monitoring load, and identify factors influencing patient adherence. Hip, knee, ankle, and foot procedures commonly warrant PWB, yet optimal targets and progr

The effect of health literacy on patient compliance in patients to whom prostate biopsies were recommended.

BACKGROUND: Transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy (TRUS-Bx) is the gold standard diagnostic method for prostate cancer. In people with low health literacy, accurate and early diagnosis rates decrease, making it difficult to maintain health and compliance with treatment. In our study, we investigated how health literacy and sociocultural parameters affected compliance and awareness in patients with suspected prostate cancer, for whom TRUS-Bx was planned. METHODS: In the study, 98 male patients aged 50-80 years, recommended for TRUS-Bx, were included in our study. The data including age

Bundle compliance patterns in septic shock and their association with patient outcomes: an unsupervised cluster analysis.

Adhering to bundle-based care recommendations within stringent time constraints presents a profound challenge. Elements within these bundles hold varying degrees of significance. We aimed to evaluate the Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) hour-one bundle compliance patterns and their association with patient outcomes. Utilizing the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-IV 1.0 dataset, this retrospective cohort study evaluated patients with sepsis who developed shock and were admitted to the intensive care unit between 2008 and 2019. The execution of five hour-one bundle interventions were a
