BACKGROUND: Peer support for people with acquired neurological disability is gaining worldwide popularity, yet it is conceptually unclear what constitutes valuable peer interactions. To build a greater understanding from the lived experience perspective, this scoping review synthesised literature on how adults with acquired neurological disability experience and perceive peer support.
METHODS: Peer-reviewed literature published between 2013 and 2024 was identified through systematic searches of five databases. Thirty-two studies were included, covering a range of disabilities (e.g. acquired b

BACKGROUND: Cycling with any form of limb amputation has progressed from an activity of leisure or rehabilitation to elite level competition as part of the Paralympic Games programme.
OBJECTIVE: While it is often proposed that research into sport with an amputation can be extremely limited, this study intended to identify the volume, type and historical strategy in this area.
STUDY DESIGN: This study comprises a documented systematic literature review of cycling undertaken with any form of limb amputation.
METHOD: This study used four online search engines to identify relevant peer-reviewed

PURPOSE: This paper describes a protocol for a scoping review examining the role of peer education programs for people with chronic kidney disease across diverse healthcare settings and cultural contexts.
METHOD: The protocol is guided by the Joanna Briggs Institute evidence synthesis guidance, and reported here following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses for scoping reviews (PRISMA-P) guideline. Based on the population, intervention, comparator, and outcome (PICO) framework, our research questions are: 1) What models of peer education are used to suppleme

The Junior Peer Reviewer program of the American Journal of Critical Care provides mentorship in the peer review process to novice reviewers. The program includes discussion sessions in which participants review articles published in other journals to practice and improve their critical appraisal skills. The articles reviewed during the first year of the program focused on caring for patients with COVID-19. The global pandemic has placed a heavy burden on nursing practice. Prone positioning of patients with acute respiratory failure is likely to improve their outcomes. Hospitals caring for pat

OBJECTIVE: An important internal quality control system used in the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute cytopathology laboratory in Florence is the peer review procedure, based on the review of all abnormal cytological smears which routinely emerge. Peer review is an important training opportunity for all cytologists, especially for those with less experience. This article shows the results of the peer review procedure.
METHODS: Of the 63 754 Papanicolaou (Pap) smears screened in 2011, 1086 were considered to be abnormal [at least atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC

OBJECTIVE/HYPOTHESIS: The goal of this scoping review is to evaluate and synthesize the published research regarding bullying and children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing (DHH).
STUDY DESIGN: The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for scoping review (PRISMA-ScR) statement was used as the guideline for conducting this review.
METHODS: This review included studies assessing pediatric (0-21 years) DHH children. Seventy records underwent the initial title-abstract screening, 33 underwent full-text review, and 23 studies met inclusion criteria. During the

Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a worldwide social problem which has received much attention from policy makers, researchers, and practitioners. A considerable portion of CSA research has focused on adult offenders, the result of which is that most of our existing knowledge regarding prevention and intervention has been based on abuse perpetrated by this population. The current literature review, by contrast, was designed to spotlight the phenomenon of preadolescent peer sexual abuse (PAPSA), focusing on children ages 12 and under, using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-An

Growth in community medicine and public health publications has increased peer-review workload and the risk of missed methodological and statistical issues. Because peer review is largely voluntary and often performed alongside clinical, teaching, administrative, and research duties, reviews may be delayed or rushed. Generative artificial intelligence (AI) may help, but unstructured use raises concerns about confidentiality, integrity, and automation bias. This viewpoint proposes a human-first, AI-assisted workflow in which reviewers first complete an independent manual review. With editor per

BACKGROUND: Peer-assisted learning (PAL) has been shown to provide a supportive learning environment, motivate students, and increase students' self-efficacy. Although PAL has been formalised in some training institutions in developed countries, its implementation in clinical practice still exhibits design shortcomings. This scoping review maps evidence on how PAL was implemented in undergraduate health sciences programmes.
METHOD: The scoping review followed the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Manual for Evidence Synthesis and reported using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews

PURPOSE: To identify the characteristics of peer-reviewed literature on community-based rehabilitation (CBR) in low- and middle-income countries published in English from 2003 to 2012.
METHODS: This scoping review involved a systematic search of electronic databases using specific keyword/subject heading combinations. Journal articles were included if they were published in English, used "CBR" as related to rehabilitation with persons with disabilities and not limited to high-income countries (HICs). Data were charted according to both pre-determined and emergent categories. A subset of artic

OBJECTIVES: Prisoners face inequalities relating to health and social care and educational needs. Peer support (prisoners providing support to other prisoners) is used in addition to professional support to address needs. It is not clear how effective or cost-effective peer-support services are, how they are implemented or experienced, or how best to evaluate such schemes. This review aimed to evaluate the following: 1. Outcomes and economic outcomes that have been studied for prison peer support, and data sources used. 2. Effectiveness and cost of prison peer support. 3. Implementation and ex

BACKGROUND: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) significantly impacts the lives of people with the diagnosis and their families. A supportive social environment is important for people with ALS to adopt effective coping strategies and health behaviours, and reduce depressive symptoms. Peer support can provide a supportive social environment and can happen in-person and online. Advantages of online peer support are that people can engage from their own home, at their own time and pace, and that it offers a variety of different platforms and modes of communication.
OBJECTIVES: To (1) explore th

Shame following childhood sexual abuse (CSA) can be intensely painful and destructive to one's sense of self and place in the world. Organised around an internalised core belief of worthlessness, extreme shame presents as a major therapeutic challenge in therapy with many CSA survivors. A range of clinical and empirical literature, alongside recounts of survivors lived experience, shows that shame is an effect of CSA for many survivors. Yet research has rarely focused specifically on survivors' qualitative or lived experiences of shame. This article reports the results of a scoping review of t

BACKGROUND: Peer-led interventions show potential in supporting stroke survivors' recovery, but are described using inconsistent terms and definitions in the current literature.
AIMS: Adopting "post-stroke peer-coaching intervention" as the overarching term, this study aims to synthesise the characteristics and outcomes of existing interventions for stroke survivors to develop a standardised definition and a consolidated summary of findings.

The peer review system, fundamental to scientific quality control, faces a significant crisis. As journal editors, we often need to send up to 35 invitations just to secure two reviewers, confronting daily the collapse of voluntary participation. This reflects a critical imbalance: while publication pressure intensifies, willingness to evaluate diminishes, creating "literature elephantiasis", i.e., an overwhelming proliferation of papers exceeding human processing capacity. Current compensation models, relying on token recognition and database access, fail to incentivize quality engagement and

OBJECTIVE: Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) experience many peer interaction problems and are at risk of peer rejection and victimisation. Although many studies have investigated problematic peer functioning in children with ADHD, this research has predominantly focused on boys and studies investigating girls are scant. Those studies that did examine girls, often used a male comparison sample, disregarding the inherent gender differences between girls and boys. Previous studies have highlighted this limitation and recommended the need for comparisons between ADHD f

AIMS: Multiligament knee injuries (MLKI) are devastating injuries that can result in significant morbidity and time away from sport. There remains considerable variation in strategies employed for investigation, indications for operative intervention, outcome reporting, and rehabilitation following these injuries. At present no study has yet provided a comprehensive overview evaluating the extent, range, and overall summary of the published literature pertaining to MLKI. Our aim is to perform a methodologically rigorous scoping review, mapping the literature evaluating the diagnosis and manage

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Peer support interventions have emerged as a promising adjunct to the treatment of personality disorders, particularly borderline personality disorder (BPD). This review summarizes the rapidly expanding literature on peer support in personality disorders and proposes a dimensional reinterpretation of its potential mechanisms of action through dimensional models of personality functioning.
RECENT FINDINGS: Recent literature supports the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of peer support interventions in BPD. Benefits have been reported across recovery-relat
