Amdinocillin has previously been shown to be synergistic with other beta-lactam antibiotics against many gram-negative bacteria. We evaluated the safety, efficacy, and microbiologic activity of combination amdinocillin and cefoxitin treatment in 17 patients with complicated urinary tract infections caused by multiply-resistant Serratia marcescens. Sulbactam/cefoperazone (SBT/CPZ) was administered to 8 cases with gynecologic infections including pelvic peritonitis (2 cases), pyometra (2 cases), acute adnexitis, Bartholin abscess, endometritis and infected lymphocyst. The clinical efficacy was assessed as effective in 7 cases and poor in 1 case. The effective rate was 87.5%. No adverse reactions including clinical signs were observed. But slight elevation of GOT was observed in 1 case.

Twelve consecutive patients with enteric fever entered a trial of 14 days' treatment with mecillinam. Only three patients became afebrile within three days; four continued unimproved with fever and toxaemia for seven to nine days, when treatment was changed to chloramphenicol with good results. In one case the fever did not settle until the 13th day, and five days later the patient had a clinical relapse. Although all organisms recovered were fully sensitive to mecillinam, this drug is not an effective or consistent treatment for enteric fever.

Pylephlebitis or septic thrombophlebitis of the portal vein is a rare entity with a high mortality rate. It is often a complication of intra-abdominal infection most commonly caused by diverticulitis and appendicitis. Diagnosis is often delayed since clinical signs and symptoms are nonspecific.
