Assessment of Digital Intraoral Periapical Radiograph for the Detection of Apical Root Resorption in Inflammatory Periapical Pathologies: A Radiovisiography Study.

Introduction Resorption often takes the form of external inflammatory root resorption. Apical periodontitis or an apical cyst is the most typical cause of external inflammatory root resorption. Failure of endodontic treatment can occur if severe apical root resorption occurs. This is due to the difficulty of reaching these sites.Apical root resorption is usually discovered during routine radiographs and is usually in its later stages. If the lesion is advanced, extraction is the only viable solution. An accurate diagnosis of incipient root resorption is essential. This research is designed to a

Effect of traumatic occlusion on periapical lesions in rats.

The effect of traumatic occlusion on periapical lesions in rats was investigated histologically and histometrically. Rats were divided equally into groups A to D. Rats in group A received no treatment; in group B, rats received pulpal exposure of the left mandibular first molar; in group C, a resin plate was cemented onto the occlusal surface of the corresponding maxillary molar; and in group D, the molar pulp was exposed and the resin plate was installed. At 1 and 2 wk, compression of the periodontal ligament and inflammation were less in group D than in group B. Lesions in the periapical per

Receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE)-expressing endothelial cells co-express AGE and S100 in human periapical granulomas.

OBJECTIVE: The engagement of the receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) by AGE or S100 perturbs homeostatic mechanisms and provides a basis for cellular dysfunction in pathological situations. To assess the mechanism of vascular immune reactions in chronic periapical periodontitis, we analysed co-expression of RAGE and AGE or S100 in periapical granulomas. METHODS: Surgically removed periapical lesions, which had been diagnosed as chronic periodontitis, were inspected histologically using paraffin-embedded sections stained with haematoxylin and eosin. Cryostat sections of the tis

Dental infection and vascular disease.

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory response to bacterial plaque in which the anchoring bone and soft tissues supporting teeth are destroyed, resulting in tooth mobility and loss. Dental caries involves the spread of infection from the dentine to the vascular dental pulp and periapical bony tissues, before involvement of adjacent soft tissues and spreading sepsis. Several case-controlled, cross-sectional, and cohort studies report correlation between periodontitis and increased cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and peripheral artery disease, as determined by clinical disease, angiography, u

The endodontic-periodontal lesion: a rational approach to treatment.

When a periapical lesion communicates with a deep periodontal pocket, the etiology can be either endodontic or periodontal. This article clarifies the relationship between pulpal and periodontal disease and presents a systematic approach to the diagnosis and management of endodontic-periodontal lesions. It also presents a case that demonstrates the successful treatment of teeth that appear to be hopelessly diseased.

The Impact of Posterior Maxillary Teeth on Maxillary Sinus: Insights From Cone-Beam Computed Tomography Analysis.

Background Odontogenic maxillary sinusitis arises mainly from dental origins, emphasizing the connection between dental health and sinus issues. Understanding these relationships is crucial for implant planning, sinus augmentation procedures, and managing post-extraction complications. This knowledge can help clinicians make informed decisions about treatment timing and approach. In this study, the influence of tooth periapical and periodontal conditions on maxillary sinus mucous membrane thickening using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging was evaluated. Methods In this retrospective

Radiographic diagnosis of periodontitis using artificial intelligence: a meta-analysis comparing binary and staging classifications across imaging modalities.

BACKGROUND: Artificial intelligence (AI) has shown promise for diagnosing periodontal disease from dental radiographs. However, diagnostic performance across classification types (binary classification vs. staging classification) and imaging modalities remains unclear. This meta-analysis evaluates the accuracy of AI diagnostics for periodontitis, comparing binary and staging classifications across various imaging modalities. METHODS: A systematic meta-analysis reviewed AI-based periodontal diagnostic studies using periapical, panoramic, bitewing, or cone-beam computed tomographic radiographs.
