Malignant phyllodes tumor (MPT) is a rare breast neoplasm with high recurrence rates and potential for heterologous sarcomatous differentiation. Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST)-like differentiation in MPT is exceptionally rare and presents considerable diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. We report a case of a 24-year-old female with recurrent MPT exhibiting MPNST-like differentiation and integrated immunophenotypic and genomic characterization. The patient initially presented in November 2023 with a 3.8 cm right breast MPT treated by wide local excision. Five months later, u

The breast can develop various types of tumors, among which the phyllodes tumor is notably rare, complex, and unpredictable in its progression. A 44-year-old primigravida was admitted to the gynecology emergency department at Angré University Hospital with severe mastodynia in the right breast. Examination revealed a large, irregular, and hardened tumor in the right breast, with the areola exhibiting an ulcerative and necrotic appearance. Breast magnetic resonance imaging revealed a sizable necrotic mass with cutaneous and mammary gland infiltration, categorized as BI-RADS 6. A mastectomy was

Phyllodes tumor (PT) of the breast is a rare fibroepithelial tumor characterized by the proliferation of both epithelial and stromal components. The presence of osteosarcomatous differentiation within the sarcomatous stroma is exceptionally uncommon and typically portends a poor prognosis. However, the biological behavior of malignant phyllodes tumors (MPT) exhibiting heterologous osteosarcomatous differentiation requires further investigation. A 59-year-old woman presented with a one-month history of a left breast lump. Mammography, chest CT, ultrasonography and MRI identified a mass measurin

RATIONALE: Malignant phyllodes tumors with osteosarcomatous transformation are exceedingly rare. The clinical manifestations are similar to those associated with benign giant calcification, resulting in nonspecific and complex clinical symptoms.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 59-year-old woman presented with a firm, painless, movable, 5.0 × 4.0 cm lump in the lower inner quadrant of the left breast that she had detected 1 month prior.
DIAGNOSES: Breast osteosarcoma originating from a malignant phyllodes tumor was confirmed by histopathologic and immunohistochemical evaluation.
INTERVENTIONS: The patie

INTRODUCTION: Phyllodes tumors are biphasic fibroepithelial tumors that account for fewer than 1% of mammary tumors. They usually appear in middle-aged women, with an average size of 4-7 cm and rapid growth.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 25-year-old woman sought care after excision of recurrent nodules in the right breast, with a diagnosis of borderline phyllodes tumor. She had no new lesions on physical examination. Imaging studies revealed an anechoic collection and nodular areas in a previous surgical site, correlated with pathology. Immuno-histochemical examination was positive for vimentin, ca

We report a case of solitary pulmonary metastasis from a phyllodes tumor of the breast appearing 16 years after initial surgery. The patient was a 56-year-old woman who had undergone surgical extirpation of a left breast tumor diagnosed as phyllodes tumor (borderline malignancy) in 1998, and a right breast tumor diagnosed as fibromatosis in 2000. Sixteen years after the initial operation, she consulted our hospital because of a chest X-ray abnormality detected at a screening examination. Chest computed tomography revealed a well defined nodular shadow in the left upper lobe of the lung. Surger

BACKGROUND: Breast fibroadenomas and phyllodes tumors are both fibroepithelial tumors with comparable histological characteristics. However, rapid and precise differential diagnosis is a tough point in clinical pathology. Given the tendency of phyllodes tumors to recur, the difficulty in differential diagnosis with fibroadenomas leads to the difficulty in optimal management for these patients.
METHOD: In this study, we used Raman spectroscopy to differentiate phyllodes tumors from breast fibroadenomas based on the biochemical and metabolic composition and develop a classification model. The m

INTRODUCTION: Phyllodes tumors of the breast are rare fibroepithelial neoplasms accounting for 0.3%-1.0% of all primary breast tumors. They are classified into benign, borderline, and malignant subtypes, with borderline and malignant tumors associated with an increased risk of local recurrence and distant metastasis. Giant phyllodes tumors, defined as tumors larger than 10 cm in diameter, are uncommon, and reports of tumors exceeding 20 cm are extremely rare. We report a case of a rapidly growing giant benign phyllodes tumor with skin ulceration, along with a review of the relevant literature.

The malignant phyllodes tumor (PT) of the breasts is a rare type of fibroepithelial neoplasm. Osteoclast-like giant cells (OLGCs) exist in many types of tumors. But malignant PTs with OLGCs were rarely reported. Here, we presented a case of a 49-year-old woman who had a 23 cm ×21 cm ×6 cm mass which was growing for 2 years in her left breast. The patient had moderate anemia due to the hemorrhage and exudation on the surface of the tumor. The imaging examinations such as PET-CT found no lymphatic involvement and distant metastasis. We performed mastectomy with a 2 cm surgical margin and free sk

INTRODUCTION: Phyllodes tumors (PTs) of the breast are extremely rare accounting for less than 1% of all breast tumors globally. Case records at the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Registry show that only 0.003% of the reported breast cancer cases between 1995 and 2009 were PTs.
PRESENTATION OF THE CASE: We report a 45-year-old woman who presented with swelling of the left breast. Ultrasound, mammogram and computed tomography imaging confirmed the presence of a mass in the right upper inner quadrant of the left breast. A biopsy revealed features supportive of a benign phyllodes tumor. A wide local

Phyllodes tumor of the vulva is extremely rare with only 6 cases reported in the literature. We report a case of recurrent phyllodes tumor of the vulva in a 39-year-old woman. The tumor showed biphasic morphology with a typical leaf-like pattern and a cellular stroma with rare mitosis. Expression of estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors mammoglobin, and BRST-2 was shown in the epithelial component. Review of literature with emphasis on diagnostic features and differential diagnosis are discussed.

It is very unusual for a carcinoma of the breast to coexist with a phyllodes tumor, or for a carcinoma to arise within a fibroadenoma. We present herein an extremely rare case of lobular carcinoma in situ arising in a fibroadenoma, associated with a malignant phyllodes tumor in the opposite breast. A 49-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with a large mass in the right breast and a small mass in the left breast. Microscopic examination of biopsy materials revealed a malignant phyllodes tumor in the right breast and a fibroadenoma in the left breast, for which a right standard radical m

INTRODUCTION: Phyllodes tumors are rare fibroepithelial breast neoplasms, typically affecting middle-aged women. Malignant phyllodes tumors (MPTs) account for a minority of these cases and are extremely uncommon in adolescents. The synchronous presentation of MPT with contralateral invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) is exceptionally rare and presents unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 19-year-old female who presented with a rapidly enlarging mass in the left breast, initially misdiagnosed as an abscess. On physical examination, a distinct rig

Phyllodes tumors are a rare fibroepithelial neoplasm of the breast occurring in approximately 2.1 in every 1 million women with no clear predilection for women of specific races. They are characterized by spindle-shaped stromal cells with increased stromal cellularity and increased mitotic activity. The histologic characteristics are similar to that of cellular fibroadenomas making them frequently difficult to differentiate on core biopsy. We present a case of an 82-year-old female with a right breast mass which was initially diagnosed as a fibroadenoma in 2009. She was lost to follow-up and p

BACKGROUND: The age of onset of the phyllodes tumor is generally in the late 40 s, and diagnosis and treatment during pregnancy and lactation are rare. We herein present a case of a phyllodes tumor that rapidly increased in size during the pregnancy and lactation period.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 39-year-old woman was referred to our hospital with a mass in the right breast that increased in size during the pregnancy and lactation period. On ultrasound (5 week postpartum), a well-defined lobulated mass with internal septations and fluid retention was observed. Magnetic resonance imaging of the bre

A phyllodes tumor (PT) is a biphasic fibroepithelial lesion that is most commonly found in breast tissue, whereas it is uncommon in ureter tissue. Only one case has been documented so far. There are some similarities in histology and clinical characteristics between this type of tumor and PT of the female breast: the lesions can be surgically removed, but some recur locally and invade directly into the breast. This case of a primary PT of the ureter is useful for pathologists and clinicians.

PURPOSE: Phyllodes tumors are rare breast neoplasms with limited prospective data to guide treatment, leading to heterogeneous management of this disease. We developed National consensus statements using modified Delphi methodology including patients and practitioners across Canada.
METHODS: Statements were developed based on a literature review. Two iterations of surveys were distributed with a planned virtual consensus meeting. Panelists were invited from surgery, radiation oncology, medical oncology, pathology, radiology, and plastic surgery.
RESULTS: Twenty-three participants attended th

BACKGROUND: There is substantial overlap in MRI findings between phyllodes tumors (PTs) and fibroadenomas (FAs). Our study was performed to investigate the value of conventional MRI texture analysis in the differential diagnosis of PTs and FAs.
METHODS: Preoperative MRI data - including axial T1WI, T2WIFS (T2WI with fat suppression), dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE)-T1WI2min and DCE-T1WI7min (T1WI post-strengthened for 2 and 7 min, respectively, on DCE-MRI) - of 45 patients with PTs and 67 patients with FAs were retrospectively analyzed. Giant phyllodes tumors (PT) are an uncommon fibroepithelial neoplasm and especially rare in adolescent girls. Diagnosis is difficult not only due to the rarity of PT, but also owing to the resemblance of its clinical and imaging features with fibroadenoma. The author reports a case of a giant PT in a 14-year-old girl. Clinical examination showed a large painful mass in the left breast, and an abscess was initially suspected. But magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) displayed features characteristic of PT. Following complete surgical excision of the mass, histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of a
